Gustavo Rangel (Jays' Owner) expects us to play above .500.

The preseason predictions are a little better than that. They expect the Jays to go 120-42 and win the AL East by 27 games.

They expect Toronto to have HALF of the TOP 10 hitters in the league.

#1 - Robin Yount
#2 - Keith Hernandez
#4 - Gustavo Pena
#5 - Skip McBeath
#6 - Claudell Washington

And FOUR of the Top 10 Pitchers!

#3 - Chris Cook
#4 - Roger Erickson
#6 - Dave Stieb
#7 - Ed Whitson

We also have the lowest ranked minor league system.

The Blue Jays kicked off the 1981 season the same way they ended the 1980 season - by losing to the Detroit Tigers.

Detroit won 5-1.

Great things are expected of the Blue Jays. First they have to start scoring some runs.

They lost 7-2 to Detroit.

LP - Ed Whitson (0-1)

The Jays scored a bit better, due to Robin Yount's two home run day, but they still fell 7-4 to the Tigers.

If Toronto wants to do better than last year, they need to beat the Tigers.

Time for the Blue Jays' home opener and they gave the fans something to cheer about as they beat the Yankees 6-3 to pick up their first win.

Adrian Young went 2 for 2 with a walk and an RBI.

Toronto had this game well in hand but Mark Clear and Rick Camp combined to allow 5 runs in the 9th inning, allowing the Yankees to tie the game. Then, in the 11th, New York got the go-ahead run and the Jays fell 7-6.

Skip McBeath went 2 for 5 with his first homer o f the year and 4RBI.
