We're already friends. But just as I can get a bit surly on occasion, he can occasionally get a bit obsessive.

I read the news today, oh boy! Four thousand hits by Blackburn of Lancashire! And though the hits were rather small (mostly singles) They had to count them all Now they know how many hits it takes to make the Baseball Hall! I'd love to turn you on . . . to the OOTPB Newspaper!

It's nice. But with some tweaks to the layout it could look much nicer.

Seriously, do you have the box score for that game? I'm guessing it's a long extra-inning game where everyone else was pretty offensively inept?
If it was a 9 inning game, that means his team had a minimum of 55 plate appearances, meaning something like 24 men left on base, or almost 3 per inning. (Right?) |

Is it, though? It could probably be done.

Cool, thanks. Yeah, 15 LOB is still pretty bad even in 14-innings. 4 Runs on 15 Hits... as a Cub fan, that feels weirdly familiar.
I went looking for record LOBs and saw that 20 is the record for a 9-inning game, and the record for a season is 1328 by the Reds in 1976, meaning they averaged just over 8 LOB per game. Current MLB average looks like just under 7 LOB per game. Also found this game: April 7, 2008 Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates Play by Play and Box Score - Baseball-Reference.com, which went 12 innings (as opposed to your 14), but the Cubs scored 10 runs (as opposed to your 4) on 13 hits (15), and in both games had 15 LOB. The biggest difference was that the Pirates gave up 11 BBs in the 12 inning historical game, and the Phillies managed to only give up 3 free passes in your 14 inning game. But the most interesting thing about the 2008 game is that the Pirates gave up 5 walks in the 12th inning (including 2 intentional) to lose the game 10-8. |

I thought I could trump that 20 LOB mark with a game from my dynasty, but checking revealed that my Raccoons merely left 19 on base in a 9-inning affair last season.
Team LOB: 19 Individual LOB: 38 Still won 3-1 thanks to gritty pitching, the SP bringing in the tying run on a groundout and my franchise poster boy the only guy to actually have a clutch hit with a 2-run single. Yeah, 19 LOB is merely for starters. We can do better, I'm sure. Also once had a 9-inning game where my pitchers surrendered 19 walks - a mark unmatched in the majors leagues since 1887 or so. We didn't quite win that one.

I just clinched a division and it wasn't mentioned in the newspaper.

I Loathe that.
I don't care about the 5,000,000th guy to get 5 hits in a game but I do care about who clinched the playoffs. I do care about every single playoff game. Somebody needs to say, "Ok, Guys, we need to fix this but we will need some help from all you. We need writers to create some stories for clinching the playoffs and we need stories for all possible playoff situations." 1-0 2-0 3-0 4-0; 1-1 2-1 etc. I can see that variable league could cause problems with content but maybe just a few articles "leading" and "Tied" should be enough for now.

I lost a world series by a walk off run with two out in the 9th inning of the seventh game.....no reporter thought it worth mentioning.

i still have a problem with the no reporting post draft. we had the 1st pick overall not signing, and that didn't make the news!...
actually a report at end of signing deadline would be expected, but 1st not signing, clearly was news worthy. also 7th pick over-all blowing is elbow after 2 innings (first game post signing) was pretty traumatic... |
