Is anyone else impressed that he simmed 20,000 games? This was an awesome experiment.

I don't understand what you're saying, precisely. Changes were made to the fielding model in OOTP-13, and one of those changes was to factor in height in the 1B rating, so that 5'9'' shortstops playing 1B wouldn't have ratings of 295 out of 100.

Hell yeah I'm impressed.

My attempts at employing the scientific method usually end somewhere around a couple of hundred.

"Lastly, I neutralized the strategy for both teams, running everything right down the middle for every split and every situation for both teams."

That could favor one team over the other. A team of slower sluggers is favored by let them hit, while a team of faster on base guys is favored by small ball. I think a neutral strategy favors let them hit.

FWIW, I simmed 20,000 games between nine 2004 Ichiros and nine 2004 Melvin Moras, and the results were a little clearer:

That might very well be, but I'm not sure how else to approach it to obtain as pure a result as possible. The idea was to see which type of hitter creates more wins offensively while holding every other variable in control. If I start futzing with things like strategies individualized for each team, it might lead me to inadvertently favor one team over the other based on how I change the strategies, whether consciously or not.

That having been said, even with neutralized strategies, you may notice that in-game results did favor their individual abilities. The Flying Ichiros stole more bases; the Slugging Miguels (and Melvins) took more walks. And I don't know this for a fact, but I also sense that the Ichiros were also sent by the third base coach more than the M's were, because of their relative speed.

Interesting--meaning, Ichiros and Miguels, but using all Cy Young clones as starters? Or do you mean five Cy Youngs versus some other pitcher, using average fictional position players, relievers and closers?

Ha ha! Nice!

I was asking more what season Cobb versus what season DiMaggio.

I don't know off the top of my head. They both just jumped to mind when I read your post.

This, so both teams face the same pitching.

So you're saying the Flying Ichiros and the Flying Miguels facing all clones of Cy Young as starters?

I went ahead and did this, and I must say, you must have known something about how a rotation of Cy Youngs would do against Miguel Cabrera, as opposed to against Ichiro:
