Would force-starting a player at every position prevent a backup catcher from starting anywhere?

I thought I was fixing this problem by having my backup catcher who is also the starting 1st base play catcher "every 2nd game". I just looked at his fielding ratings for the first time and he hasn't played one inning at catcher!
The modifiers to the right of the lineup need to be adhered to by the AI IMO. "If starter tired" should mean what it says. I imagine it would be a pain to program if the sub at the non-catcher position is set to play "every 3rd game" or something like that. Might cause some conflicts and the next thing you know Johnny Bench (pun intended) is backing up on your Eastern League team!?!?! I hope a fix can be worked out. Thanks for pointing this issue out. I play my MLB team with 7 day lineups and personally choose each day's roster. I have absolutely no interest in doing this with my minor league teams. In the mean time, I am off to the Free Agent supermarket to give out some scrap heap catcher love! |

The Braves had Evan Gattis, Brian McCann, and Gerald Laird split catching duties with McCann starting 91 games at C, Gattis started 38 games there, and Laird 31 games. Gattis also played started in LF for 47 games and at 1B for 4. The Twins had Joe Mauer, Ryan Doumit, Josmil Pinto, Drew Butera, Chris Herrmann, and Eric Fryer split time at C, with Mauer getting 73 starts, Doumit 43, Pinto 18, Butera only 1, herrmann, 23, and Fryer 4. Mauer started 18 games at 1B, Doumit 29 games in RF, and Herrmann 14 games in RF. |

How hard can it be to have as the last entry in rooster creation IF Pos Catcher =1 player (because the backup is starting elsewhere) THEN add another catcher and chop the last benchman.

why don't 'Ghost players' solve this problem? I thought having this feature enabled should prevent issues like this. However, I always use 'ghost players' but I usually have worn-out catchers.
So what is the point of 'ghost players'?

I believe it is for the occurrence when there are absolutely no other players at that particular position for the team, then a 'ghost player' fills in. If there is only 1 catcher then he will get all of the starts and no 'ghost player' will be used.
