Based on what I've read, I'm going to skip this version.

Different fish. OOTP gets no money from the patch.

Well, of course, any new code might introduce new bugs, but this patch definitely fixes a bunch of problems with the previous code, so there is really no reason to withhold from installing it......if you install it, you MIGHT see some problems that you hadn't before, but if you don't, you WILL continue to have the problems that this patch fixes.....worse case scenario, you have a problem or two you didn't before, but you'll for sure be rid of a BUNCH of problems you for sure have right now.....come out ahead in the bargain anyway.....

It's really a personal choice whether to switch to the patch or not. Obviously, Wolf and Bru don't have a problem with most of the issues that were fixed in this patch (I didn't, either, but I'm going with the patch until I hit a problem). That, or they prefer having those issues to the new ones (I will admit, the facegen issue is a little scary). So, no biggie. I'm sure they'll both be buying OOTP15 next spring.

Anomaly? The current FaceGen problem is an anomaly. OOTP 2006 was a flipping disaster.

You are having problems that this patch fixes whether you realize it or not.....the statistical integrity and the performance of the AI were both improved.....

I can live with it. Those get upgraded with every single new version and every single new patch. Back in OOTP11, the first one I played, sure there were AI and stat issues, but I didn't have a problem with them. And when 12 came out, sweet, the AI got better. Never had a big issue there; now I have less of one. Same in 13 and 14, and in almost every patch for all of them. It's great that the AI keeps getting better.

And, for new users, I can understand that having the most up-to-date patch is important. But Wolf, Bru, and myself are hardly new users. We know how we like to play, we know what bugs us, and what we can live with. I know that I'm perfectly capable of justifying bizarre in-game happenings; I do it all the time. In fact, I tend to write up news stories when it happens, and having an "umpire blew the call" or a "what was the third base coach thinking?" moment gets me more immersed into my universe.

I'm 100% positive Wolf isn't going to start a thread talking about stupid AI decisions without realizing the AI got better in the patch he didn't use. I would put money on it. So if he can deal with not having the upgrades in those categories, that's his decision. It doesn't affect anyone but him. I could too, if it came down to it. Myself, like I said, I'm sticking with the latest patch for now, but if I run into a headache like the facegen issue (I hope I don't, that would irk me to no end), I have no problem switching back to the previous patch.

If you can deal with having a sim that is less of a sim, then have fun playing The Sims: Baseball.......unbelievable that pretty pictures would trump statistical integrity in the choice of a text sim.....

All true, particularly the bolded, which does in fact have an effect on my decision to hold off on this particular patch.

Heh. No disrespect meant to OOTPD but they say that with every new version and every patch, 'dog. Over time, it is certainly true. From one patched version to the next, meh.

Holy exaggeration, Batman.

Was the previous patch unplayable for you? I'm honestly very curious as to what issue with statistical integrity that was fixed in the latest patch was so major in your eyes.

Exaggerate much?

Don't ever accuse anyone else of going off the rails or over the top.

Every little bitty bit is important, much more so than any eye-candy stuff.....

The list of features that was published as being in the patch is not the important stuff; the list of bugs squashed is.....and the list for this patch was a lot longer than the list for any of the other patches....little things like in game AI mangers behaving as intended.....AI GMs understanding the value of a dollar (at least that it's not worth as much as a million of them)....runners actually advancing a base if there is a throwing error.....not to mention the ones that actually are small but number in the billions (it seems)....just off the top of my head.....

All of which have been consistently upgraded bit by bit in every single release. I stand by my position: It's awesome that there's improved AI in the latest patch. That's a good thing. But I didn't have a problem with the previous patch, so why should it become totally obsolete just because the new one is a bit better? If the latest patch worked without a hitch (like it has for me so far), of course I'd choose the upgraded AI any day of the week. But there's nothing wrong with sticking with a version that you know and like.

Also, careful on the eye candy comments - you're talking to an amateur graphic designer who does a lot of work in the Mods forum and doesn't start a fictional league unless every team looks perfect.
