Usually I find myself just waiting out the player's contract, or hoping they retire one way or another
![]() Otherwise you end up screwing your team up as others mentioned above. I am not a huge Yankee hater, but I very rarely choose them to play in MLB leagues as their bankroll reduces the challenge to a large degree. It's all in how one looks at it at the end of the day. Good luck!

How to dump big contract players?
I would say the Yankees bankroll is somewhat compromised in years 2013-2018 which makes it challenging.

It's definitely a challenge!
Also this is my first OOTP experience and I really wanted to be the Yankees first time up. |

Play with "right to refuse minors assignment" enabled and you will really have a challenge on your hands.

It's on. At least I haven't changed any settings. And certain players have the right to refuse. I've had to get them through waivers to assign them to AAA.

I mean, if you really want to go the cheating route, just jump in as commissioner and set them as a Free Agent (or drastically reduce their salary). I have been pushing for non-guaranteed contracts for awhile in this game, but I doubt it'll ever get added. The NFL does it, and it makes sense. It makes players work for their dollars, so teams don't end up with dead weight.

Everything is default settings. I'm new to the game and didn't want to mess about yet.

I guess you're in 2014 or 2015, which is when Jeter and A-Rod's position ratings disappear for me. Basically I let them play on (with defensive substitutes setup), pursuing their top 3/4 positions respectively in hits/HRs leaderboards. Jeter shouldn't be on much money, though (8m option in 2014, usually settles for around $5m to extend after that). Don't offer extensions early in the season.
In 2013, I try to keep Cano to a 4/5 year extension; withdraw arbitration for Kuroda, and let Granderson take free agency (>draft pick). Hughes will want $15m or so. But then I will have already traded Hafner, Youkilis etc and have plenty of payroll to spare anyway.

Fair enough (and I certainly wasn't suggesting a blueprint). My aim is basically to keep career Yankees and trade for youngsters who will become career (ML) Yankees, while trying to avoid blatantly ripping off the AI in doing so (which is awkward, as I want to trade for promising rookies...).

In my last game, Jeter was slowly struggling towards 4th all time in hitting (at a rate of .200), when I had 2 top prospects take CEI's within a week. I rage quit, modified my old injuries.txt mod and restarted.

If you manually retire playes, i don't believe you take the fan interest hit from them retiring. I do this in my EBL league but not because the players are bad or i want to get rid of them. In my ABF I deal with that kind of thing. 3rd largest city last in Budget 16th, 15th in payroll.

I usually send them an email explaining that I am dumping them. I try to include the line, "It's not you. It's me." I like to let them down easy.
