OK, so I'm clear on this... Are you saying that what differentiates a starter from a closer is the number of types of pitched he can throw? If yes, then I have to apologize, since I'm a newer player, and was not aware of this.

I was under the impression, based on reading through the online manual, that a pitcher's stamina affected his ability to transition from a closer to a MR, to a starter, etc. Now, of course, I'd never throw a pitcher with a 3 stamina into my rotation, but I would take a MR and adjust his "hook" to slower if I wanted to build up his stamina.

BTW, I'm not interested in making closers into starters or anything like that. My point was that, regardless of a pitcher being a starter, MR, or closer, if he can learn a new pitch somewhere in his career, he's a more effective pitcher. Now that's a real life approach, and I don't know the mechanics as it relates to OOTP, but I'm pretty sure most organizations would rather have a pitcher be capable of throwing a 3rd pitch, rather than them sticking to just 2.

Yeah the way it works is that a pitcher needs 3 decent to good pitches to qualify as a starter in game (that 1 out of 10 changeup doesn't count).

Ok, got it. That's a problem.

Exactly. A starter will need 3 pitches and a good stamina. A lot of relievers will have good stamina but only 2 pitches that are effective. if you up the pitches to 3 with good ratings the reliever will qualify as a starter and if his ratings are good enough he will become a dominant starter (if he was a good reliever). I have started relievers with 2 pitches and a high stamina will some good results. The only thing is they usually can only last 5 innings because they don't have that 3rd pitch.

If a pitcher gets that 3rd pitch with decent ratings the AI will start him. So that is not to realistic. This is just the way that OOTP works when it comes to pitchers. Of course I may be wrong but I am just taking this from what I have noticed in my sims. May be a small sample size though....
