I simply was looking for a baseball game to play on my computer and googled something like "baseball games" and I found the free OOTP 8 and played it until it crashed, which then I got OOTP 12 and now 13 and now I can't wait until 14!

I was in Best Buy and saw ootp 11. It looked interesting so I picked it up and I have not put it down. I love playing the fantasy side of the game.

I was looking for a Football game that I could GM and compete against other players. I found FOF but it did not seem to be what I wanted, I do not remember why.
I was googling for Baseball Games and found the Gone Gold Newbie League, an OOTP league. From there I found OOTP 7 I think. It was August of 2007. I have bought every version since and love the online league component of the game. The only game that has even come close in terms of enjoyment is TES Morrowind.

Let's see. . . I played Strat-O-Matic and Statis-Pro games as a kid and I stopped playing organized baseball when I was 14 but I never lost my love for it. I got into computers, bought a Commodore 64 and created a text-style baseball game. Two teams of All-Stars, names only on the screen, and the ball was a period. No substitutions and only one pitcher. It was extremely bare-bones but my friends got into it. Played baseball on an Atari 2600 and a Colecovision and never looked back at my Commodore. Got it on the NES and Sega then graduated to a Playstation then a PS2, then a PS3, and bought a PS Vita with MLB the Show this year. I started my online baseball league in 2003 with 29 other GMs. We tested Baseball Mogul, Action PC Baseball, and Diamond Mind before settling on DMB for the first 9 years of our league. Somehow, we never discovered OOTP during our tests. I finally got tired of DMB's lack of customer support two years ago and began a search for a better sim engine. Lo and behold, I ran across OOTP and bought version 11. After three hours of playing, I made the decision to migrate our online leage over to OOTP. We ran a simultaneous sim of DMB and OOTP for the 2011 season due to some GMs' resistance to the change but dumped DMB completely this season and haven't looked back!

I played a number of baseball games over the years, including Hardball 5 & 6, Triple Play, Mvp Baseball (04 and 05), The Show, and High Heat Baseball, and what I did for the vast majority of the time was play the game as a gm. I did play a season out in each of them but triple play at one point, but mostly I just simmed through the seasons and made the personnel decisions. I had always read reviews of games like Mogul but the fact that they were called "test sims" made them seem really bland. I finally realized that games like that were what I was looking for, but before I purchase Mogul I decided to read some reviews. Everything I read strongly recommended OOTP, but once I purchased it I found even the best reviews didn't do justice to the score of the game.
It took me awhile to really get hooked on the game because I found it a little overwhelming (this was in the OOTP 2007 days). But once I designed my first fantasy league, complete with uniforms, I really was hooked. Since then, OOTP has been a staple of my life, as its the perfect game to play when you don't necessarily want to have to do anything exhausting or intensive, but it gives me mental satisfaction and gives me something to think about even when I am not playing. The fact that OOTP is unlimited in what you can do with fantasy leagues is something I always wanted. The only thing I miss about acting like a GM in games like HH2004 and MVP was that at some point, after all your hard work, you could literally watch your team take the field and win the world series. I still dream that someday OOTP could do that. |

Does anyone remember Lefty Wright? Slim Dixon?
You had to be the red team against friends because 2-8 could hit homeruns vs. 3-7 & 9 for the blue teams (if I remember correctly). I think it was the original hardball on the C64. I used to keep paper scorecards of every game I played. Total nerd action!

I always had a passing interest in baseball having seen two games on a trip to the US a few years ago. Add to this my increasing disillusionment with soccer + a free download of OOTP8 and the rest, as they say, is history!

Was hooked on high heat baseball for a number of years. While trying to find mods for the game, I came across a "blog" franchise write up by Bulldog55 over at simcentral who was playing OOTP. It was his posts that got me curious enough to find out more about OOTP. That was with v4.
