Now the question is, how do you get the game to not automatically assign the teams coaches? I guess I could just cut them manually and give the money back to the teams? I don't see a way to just have them come in clean slate...even setting AI changes to inactive beforehand did nothing.

"I almost think it might just literally be telling me that since 1871, this team is 0-0...which technically is correct, but it looks odd?! "

I think that will update at some point. It just happens when you add the team. When the season starts or they play a game the displays becomes right.

Mike I had forgotten about that screen. I will check my other leagues were I have expanded and get back to you.
You can't, it's one thing that bugs many of us. I always Act As and either fire them or delete them, then let the teams sign coaches who have been waiting years for an opportunity.

"How does expanding a league earlier "mess with league history" though?"

An expansion should not. However, if you realign it might mess with history. I have played a lot of 19th baseball with 13. Things are fluid in that period. Essentially some data like awards are not recorded until preseason. So if you move a team to different league or maybe division and a player on that team wins an award it may not show up if you move before preseason. If you delete a league prior to preseason that year's award do not show up even if they have been decided. It seems awards and some other data is stored first day of preseason.

I have not seen this problem with deleting teams or adding teams but realigning or moving teams to different leagues can cause history problems if you do it before preseason. I have never seen a permanent history problem from adding or deleting a team. There is a temporary glitch at times but that gets update when real games are played.

I just checked my main league. I have the proper expansion year for each team. I have my most recent expansion on 13 and will expand again after my 2011 season. Only odd thing I notice is that for many of the original AL teams that they have their 1st yr listed at 1882 and the same record 83-53 up until 1902. White Sox were 83-53-1 in 1901. Detroit Tigers have various records until 1889 then it's 74-61 thru 1901. This league was started on 11 and was started at 1999. Also I mean that I have proper expansion year for my main league which isn't MLB.

I actually just edited them to be free agent coaches again. Their salary doesn't count and I even went in and edited all of the team/league/player text files.
