We'll find out.

As someone else posted, I initially thought it must mean something, like a pitcher was warm in the bullpen. But it happens regardless of whether anyone is throwing in the pen, and the only thing that seems to be undeniably true about it is I never know when it will be and it's less frequent an occurrence than it always seemed. (After hearing it three times in one game, really in an inning and a half, I've now heard it only once in six games.)

I just experienced "the chirp" in a game today. 2nd game of the season, Bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, runners on first and third with my best hitter up (OOTP says that he is the best hitter in the league). 2-0 count and then the chirp. 3 straight swinging strikes. I did win the game in the 13th but i think you may be on to something.

I think it's krr1313 who was onto something.

Three straight occasions now that the guitar riff has played, a chirp follows when the guitar dissipates.

Because the guitar riff only happens when something's happening in-game -- particularly a potential rally in the late innings -- then something interesting does usually happen shortly thereafter.

The game may chirp at other times, and I'll keep listening. But for three times in a row, guitar=chirp to follow, so it's probably just a soundtrack glitch that happens to occur during suspenseful in-game moments because that's when the guitar riff is played.

That sounds more like it.

I just can't imagine there being a sound effect for "Hey look! Something interesting is about to happen now!"
