MODERATOR NOTE: This post and the two that follow were moved from the Random Photo Colorizations and Cards thread.

First, I would like to thank the folks who are doing the painstaking work to complete a colorization. I have tried to do them myself so I know how time consuming they can be. The fact that requests are being accepted is in itself quite incredible.

Most of my colorization requests are sent to a friend of mine and I can attest that if I were to send him request after request chances are they would be denied. I try to keep my requests to players who were starters or who played a significant number of games. So if I send one, there is a great chance he will do them. If I overwhelm him with multiple requests, chances are he will bow out.

I think it would be proper if we wait for our request to be completed before submitting a second request. Right now, there are what, about 20-30 requests out there? Either that or just send all 100,000 requests at one time if it is a goal to have colored photos of every player in history and then we can check back in 20-30 years as we wait for them to be completed. Sorry, but the numbers of requests coming in seems like there are entitlement issues in this thread and I fear that the folks doing these will sooner or later get tired of it.

I appreciate the support on this. I think this is a terrific website and there are a lot of folks on it who have put in a tremendous amount of work that will never be compensated. I'll take the liberty of speaking for all of us when I say that we do it first off because we enjoy it and second for the spirit of community. The main reason I'm doing these is to give back something to this community. I see a tremendous amount of selfless effort on this site in providing great pictures and great cards. That being said, I agree that we're all guilty of taking other people's efforts for granted at times. . Okcochise is correct in putting all of this in perspective. We've got a hundred thousand pics that haven't been colorized and this thread isn't going to make a dent in the pent up demand for colorizations. Everybody's got their agendas of what they need, me included, so we might as well exhibit a little patience here.

Colorization requests

It is with much interest that I have viewed recent posts on this thread in respect to the requests for colorizations, many of the comments embraced sentiments I have previously detailed in a separate thread in respect of my concerns in respect of a reduction in the community spirit now present on this site in respect of photo posts.

My concerns were inspired mainly by the conduct of one particular individual and it seems that little has changed in that respect. For the community spirit to be adversely affected it just needs one person to stray from the self discipline maintained by the vast majority.

This site has indeed been blessed for a number oif years by the wonderful work of many who have made many contributions over that period, in particular I am astounded by the colorizations which have been provided because I fully understand the amount of work involved.

For many years I submitted a colorization request to Bill and my approach was to send him just one photo and waited until he had completed that before sending another, exemplifying the approach recently suggested in this thread.

I also endorse the sentiment that there are numerous prominent players who we have no color images of, so to make colorization requests for players where there is already a plethora of color images does not seem to be the most effective way of utilizing the special talent of the colorizer of this thread , whose work I have the utmost respect. I also agree that it makes more sense to concentrate requests in respect of those players who have made a more significant contribution to the history of the game and I also agree that a good criteria to use is whether they have been a starter at any time in their career.

The question I wish to pose is when an individual refuses to comply with the sentiments of the overwhelming majority and flagrantly puts self interest before the interest of the community surely there must be a point where action is required to protect that the community.

I'm going to un-sticky this thread and let it move naturally down the page. If the need arises in the future I'll re-sticky it.
