Yes, it works in 12.

Are the boxes separated on the one layer? If I just put the paint bucket on the area where the front of the cap is, will it just fill the whole layer?

Yes, the smaller boxes will not be affected, so long as you don't have your paint bucket set on too high a setting where it would fill everything. I usually have it down around '6' or somewhere around there.

Now what we need is a way to incorporate the back of the jersey with the player's number. Make it happen Aurelio !

I believe you could place this new layer under your old caps (assuming you use a trans b/g, and then just color it to match what's already there. That would just take away the gap.

I made the large area of the new template (the hat part) medium gray to see how well it showed through for a darker colored hat... and I really don't even notice it. So, combined with the old template shading, etc., maybe we don't even need to change that color. Maybe all the new template really does is just fill in the minute gaps that we see in the old template, preventing the brightness in 13 to shine through.

This is a simple solid gray background. reds, will this block the brightness shining through? If yes, then do we really need to do anything but have a gray background under our old template - for custom hats?

EDIT: For game generated hats, the new template works great. I get it totally. Good job, Aurelio, figuring that out.

EDIT: This doesn't work quite as well as I thought once I actually tried it in 13. You can see the gray "shining" through.

Well, this is one idea that I'm definitely going to copy.

Not to belabor the point, but this is what is meant by the gaps becoming really noticeable in the profile pics used in OOTP13, thus the need to address it.

Oh that looks bad. I mean the gaps, not Miami's logo.

Yeah, I'm kicking myself for not using an image that better illustrated the problem in the original post. Would have avoided a bit of the initial confusion I caused.

Well, FWIW, I didn't mean anything negative on my first post. Just that I failed to see anything wrong with the "seams" in the older template. But yeah, this pic really captures the problem (looks like a cardboard hat on Buehrle's head lol), so I totally get it now.

Love your work, btw. Keep it coming!

I have recorded a Photoshop action that should help automate the process of converting caps with transparency.

It's fairly simple, and makes the process only take a handful of clicks per cap:

1) Open up the new cap template in Photoshop.

2) Open up the cap you want to convert. Make sure it is the foremost image, and the new template is behind it. Note that they are still separate images at this point.

3) Run the action. You will be prompted to choose the topside brim, main cap and underside brim colors. It will then save the modified image:

A few notes:

1) Photoshop seems rather persnickety about the order in which you open up the images. Opening up the cap and then the new template seems to break the action, even if you make the cap the foreground image. So make sure the template is the first image you open.

2) This will overwrite your cap file without prompting. I strongly advise that you make backup copies of any caps you plan on modifying before applying this action.

3) The action was created using Photoshop CS2 in Windows, so your mileage may vary depending on OS and Photoshop version.

Reminds me of those cheap velcro hats that you can get on discount or on "free cap day". All hail the new template!

The new template really shows off the cap better IMO. Although i have never complained about facegen before. And facegen looks the best it ever has.

Thanks! This will help me immensely with converting my ballcaps!

I also discovered a "quick" cheat to convert older hats... I used a graphics program that could do a thick "stroke" around the hat, which essentially fills in the seam gap as well.
