Gotta say I NEVER NEVER play historical and this would make me change that. Such an interesting concept.

Don't know what I would do with myself with 2 leagues going at once lol.

This sounds amazingly fun. Never thought to try this but I'd certainly love to if it was easily built in

I would love to see this as a feature as well. I have been toying with the idea of adding an offseason historical league to my regular online league as a way of making the offseason go by faster and not be as boring. This feature would definitely help!

And just to be clear about the proposed feature: what I'm hoping for already exists in part, since we can import individual players at will from any season. Just expand the feature to pull from any draft class, and perhaps a randomizer would be a good option as well. There may or may not be normalization issues to attend to, but the enormous expansion of replayability would be worth it imho. Perhaps this feature, and future ones, could be marketed like apps, purchaseable in addition to the core game. I sure as hell would pay for it.

It's a pain in the rear to do it now. I think someone has a random debut database you can download but it's going to be the same every time since it's just one pre-determined set.

Random Debut

This would be an incredible addition to the game. I have bought every version since V3. I did not play the game much last year. The random debut would make this a definite must play for me this year.

Here's something that I picture if this existed in the game...

I enjoy playing fictional leagues that have a touch of historical in them. I would love the ability to set up a fictional league and at every amateur draft tell it to include X amount of random historical players (from their debut age) and have the rest of the draft be fictional players. This could continue until the entire database of historical players got used up.

The possibilites seem endless. I desperately want this feature now.

It probably wouldn't be too hard to do a web-based app that would serve up a new random DB for download every time you visit the site (my only concern would be memory usage during the generation cycle). Maybe I'll look into this when I have some time.

That'd be awesome. Here is my issue with random debut databases as they are now though...

My favorite way to play is a fictional league with a random debut of real players. My league usually starts off small, 12 to 16 teams, and I expand as I see fit. However, when expanding, the databases are already created for the amount of teams I began my league with.

It's my hope that if this feature made it into the game at some point, it'd take this into consideration. If there was a way to pick the players when revealing the draft pool and basing it on the amount of teams in the league and essentially crossing off players that were already used so as not to double up on them.

I only play historically and a random debut would be a plus for me.

I've bought version 4,5,6, 2007 & 10...I'm not planning on buying this year's version but if a random debut feature was introduced AND it worked properly, I would definitely buy this year's version.

Ideally, the same options that are available during historical play would also be available through a random database... assuming the program could be written to recalculate a player's ratings based on how many years the player has played instead of just going by what year it is...

For example, Babe Ruth's '26-'29 seasons would correspond with years 7-10 (I didn't look it up, just guessing at the actual years) of his career even if he didn't debut until 1970.

Not sure if you guys noticed, but here is how it will work in OOTP 13:

When creating a historical league, you have now the option to either have the rosters a) as in real life or b) filled with players randomly picked out of the db. With option b) it would be clever to run an inaugural draft, but it's not needed. However, this may result in a few really bad/great teams and is not very balanced.

The same option is available for the amateur draft pool, it's either real or randomly picked with players of all eras.

Hope you like it

It's amazing how many different types of playstyles you cater to Markus. I had a plan of how I was going to setup my new 13 league but now I must reconsider. Thanks for listening to the community and giving us an amazing game.
