They did have a great offense. The kicker blew that game and the better team did not go to the SB.

I would put Elway at first. Montana had a great team around him. The backup to Steve Young looked good on the 49ers. Elway took some pretty crappy teams further then they ever should have went.
Back to my main point. You cannot just compare talent. How well a team plays as a unit is the most important factor. The coaching staff is responsible for this. Also, the longer the same players play together the better they get.
