I dunno...I've never liked these types of slides. It's an injury waiting to happen. I don't think it was as dirty as some of the slides I've seen; and I don't fault Swisher...I just question how players can get away with sliding into the person...especially as late as Swisher did it.
I'm disappointed that I won't get to see Nishioka play for the next two months...had good feeling about the guy. I'm not upset at Swisher...you can't be - especially after the way the guy handled the whole situation. I'm a little worried at the repercussions that Swisher may face. |

For a non-contact support, Baseball can be slam-bang and unintentional injuries are part of the game. Besides the "break up the double play" slide, some other examples come to mind: collision at 1B between runner and pitcher/first baseman; catcher blocking the plate with runner sliding into him; batter's bat swing hits catcher; runner spikes fielder sliding into base; fielder belts runner with a hard tag; and, of course, the old beanball. The players know when it's intentional and when it's just hard, clean play. |

I tried to find every reason to hate him, because he plays for the Yankees, but I could not. ![]() And Nishioka is scheduled to be back after 4-6 weeks. Good news for him and the Twins.

My 2 concerns from this season so far:
1. Brett Gardner -- He's getting off to a very slow start at the plate. I'm hoping the Yanks are patient with him. 2. Phil Hughes -- Velocity is down and his control is off. He's getting hammered so far.

2. As Yogi said, "90% of this game is half mental" or something like that. I really doubt it's dead arm syndrome at his age. |

well as I said to my friends heading in, we'd lose two of three to Boston.
I can live with it, it's early. But definitely would have been nice to see CC (that's a lot of C sounds) have a better game against boston. |

The DL is a very handy roster management tool sometimes. Just what the heck is injured with "dead arm syndrome" (Phil Hughes) that allows the Yankees to put him on the DL?

dead arm syndrome is something that needs not only rest but physical therapy (sometimes surgery). continued use of the arm with it can result in a number of very harmful damaging things to a pitcher's shoulder and career.

Hughes Could Have a Circulatory Condition http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/28/sp...28yankees.html How about Bartolo, though? He and Freddy could be season-savers. Last edited by 1998 Yankees; 04-28-2011 at 11:29 AM. |

Holding the White Sox to 1 run isn't really much of an accomplishment, mind you.

Great slo-mo shot by YES of the rosin being knocked off the ball that Robinson Cano lined into the seats tonight!

After last night's victory I heard someone say that the Red Sox are the first team to win 6 games in a row at the new stadium - does this include the Yankees? I can't believe that they haven't won 6 on the trot at home since moving...

There's been remarkably little "I told you so, NOT" over those stupid Joba Rules in light of this. After all that coddling, and goodness knows how it affected his development and confidence, he ends up with Tommy John surgery at age 25.
And, here I will insert another comment after witnessing Colon pulling a hammy trying to cover first today. Get those fat guys in condition! You cannot be out of shape like Colon (forget CC who is much worse, again) and expect to avoid injuries like this. I'm not sure whether Joba's injury is not related to his own overweight condition, either. Last edited by 1998 Yankees; 06-11-2011 at 05:51 PM. |

In other news Kei Igawa has been demoted to AA, lol... Guess he's working his backwards through the farm, he'll be playing for Staten Island in no time. By next year he may make it into college!
Lets get this thread going! |

Ugh, you made me look at my own tubby Yankees post again. I posted that when Bartolo was just about to go on the DL because he strained his fat hammy covering first. Of course, he shut my mouth (not that he had any notion or incentive to do so, of course), with his fine pitching performance in his first start after coming off the DL.
Tubby Yankees rule (except for Joba)! |
