Do we have this every years? The game is set to be release in spring, this is what was written in the newsletter, this is what was told when you did a pre-order and springtime run untill june 21. It's a concept pretty easy to understand for a French Canadian like me, so why it isn't for a native speaker?

Posting everyday because you think the game is supposed to be release openning day will not change anything in the fact that it isn't even springtime yet...

Just get BM and came back when you will be tired of all the bugs or the game boring simple gameplay.

Meh, it's a tradition here.

First, note that OP asked merely for a RTR (where is that new marketing guy, anyway?).

Second, every year somebody (or somebodies) start a "when will it be" or a "where the heck is it" thread(s) despite:
  1. the no uncertain terms like "in the Spring" when it's still Winter, and
  2. the often very uncertain schedules for new software releases.
Third, and completing the tradition, are posters such as yourself who get outraged (well, irked a bit) over people inadvertently or deliberately ignoring 1. and/or 2.

It's fun!

I hear you all but why put a OOTP 12 section in the boards if there is not going to be any discussion of the actual product????? Aren't there already threads of "Suggestions for next version" in the OOTP 11 section? I can understand the feeling its all a tease

I didn't mention anything on release date and will gladly wait it out (OOTP 11 destroys any other baseball game on the market anyway) for the gmae to be properly released.

I only was asking about road to release... nothing more

Release Date

I will be happy whenever it comes out, but I am surprised at the marketing strategy. Releasing OOTP in March would likely increase sales as people eagerly await the MLB season. Once the season arrives, The need for OOTP to fill my days lessens.

I can understand this for someone who play only with the current season startup that it makes a difference. But for someone like me who play only historical mode (19th century) or for those who play fictional only having the game for the season start isn't really important. Personnally I haven't watch a baseball game since 1994, so what happen actually in the baseball world is sure not important at all for me.

Infractions: 0/1 (1)
Every year since OOTP 2007 there seem to be more and more impatient people wanting the game to be released earlier and earlier. I wonder what that's a function of?

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

The marketing strategy, at least for the past few releases, has been to 'ship' the game with Opening Day rosters. That's not possible if the game is released before Opening Day.

You really don't see that? Hard to believe. At any rate, thank you for going back into hiding.

This is a good point, but I note the exquisite irony posed by your choice of forum names. Rome was indeed not built in a day.

OK, dumb analogy. The point that I would like to make is that I think if they had their way, OOTP would release each new version on or just before MLB Opening Day.

I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes, but I would venture to guess that this turns out to be a pipedream every year due to one or more of the following reasons:
  • the previous version took much longer to debug than anticipated, delaying the beginning of the new version development cycle
  • the developer(s) "bite off more than they can chew" in that they try to introduce too many new features that can be created, tested, and troubleshot by March, and
  • personal life matters intrude in the process and soak up time, energy, and focus.
Don't forget, this is mostly one guy doing all this (again, I don't know for sure but I think this is true and in any case is in no way a detraction from the essential support he receives from a handful of others). We're lucky we get:
  • a new version with new features every year, and
  • each version reasonably debugged by the end of the year.
Now, I don't care to argue with people whom I think are unreasonably demanding perfectionists and who think I am a namby-pamby fan boy. Fire away, but I am no longer reading (except if The Wolf has anything else to say, or dj_morton wants to get snipped again ).

You know what'd be cool, if all they're waiting for is the opening day rosters, how about opening spring rosters? Let US make the cuts and the opening day roster.

Problem is that isn't the openning day rooster who delayed the game. It's the debugging process and finding what cause a crash can be hard. I think it was with OOTP 9 that I was going insane because each time one of my pitcher got injured the game crashed, we have found that it was a particular setting causing this and finally the crash never happen again since it was definitivelly fix after the cause was found.

I don't know if you were a buyer for the Electronic Art NHL Hockey serie, but I was for 6 years and half of those year the product was so bug ridden that it was impossible to really enjoy it (their baseball serie wasn't really better). Having a fix release because of a season start isn't a good thing when the game is rush, maybe we received the game after the MLB season begin but we have a game we can enjoy when we get it...

I like the suspense every year, it always gets very quiet for a few weeks then bammo, released! Of course it's always announced while I'm sitting at work unable to play.
