Quite honestly, I made a decision long ago to never reply with an eye toward anything Styx does or says. So my comment was made as if Styx had not ever posted, and I have not responded here because it's as if he never replied.

I've already played out a few seasons with real-life transactions and as-they-were lineups and such. I've even created a website for it!

Why does it seem to bother some of you that there are people who like to play that way? It is the only announced feature that made me decide to purchase OOTP12.

Did anyone say something? I didn't think so.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

If OOTP improves the playing-out-a-game process in next year's version of the game, Action will have a lot to worry about. Diamond Mind is already on it's way out with only it's original fan base still interested and the SOM crowd will remain strong because there are a lot of simmers out there that like to see the card image results. Action, on the other hand, is the buggiest piece of software that I have ever had on my computer.

I actually felt somewhat sorry for Dave because I knew he couldn't fix the problems in his game without creating new ones. The Action crowd has to be the most forgiving gamers on the planet.

I bought Action and , honestly, it looks like something from 1996 and is extremely clunky to play. I could not BELIEVE that you could not invoke the computer to sim out blowout games and "sim to inning X". That was implemented in all sims back in the Stone ages. I look forward to 12 and playing a nice, polished game.

You may not like Action, but you can definitely "sim to inning X" -- it's been in the game for as long as I can remember.

OOTP and Action Baseball are different games...I use OOTP for fictional play and Action for historical season replays. Both games are very good at what they do best.

And to "Up here in Canada" -- I wouldn't be feeling sorry for Dave...he's had a very successful run for well over a decade and has a loyal following for all four of his games. And if you think his baseball game was "the buggiest piece of software" that you have ever had on your computer, then, with all due respect, it sounds like you've never even played it.

Just don't get the knee-jerk vitriol against other game developers we see occasionally on this forum. More games and more choices in this genre are a good thing...it pushes Markus (and the others) to raise the bar, which ultimately benefits all of us.

Would the 2011 MLB roster set mentioned in the OOTP notice be something like the projection disk used by DMB, and if so, is it possible to play the 2011 season with OOTP in an essentially "closed" environment, that is, something like a historical replay, but using the 2011 roster with projected stats?

Thanks much for any info.
The 2011 roster set uses "PECOTA" projections or something VERY similar.

Nice try.

I could care less what game(s) other people play. If someone states that Action has nothing to worry about then I beg to differ and I am going to explain why. I played 2 different versions of Action and you can choose to believe that or not. When Dave couldn't figure out how to correct the issues that I was having with the game he then refused to respond to my e-mails.

You're probably right, though, instead of feeling sorry for Dave I probably should have been angry with him for the way that he chose to deal with situation.

Feel free to believe what you want.

I like to season replay with the real-life transactions, too (not necessarily lineups though). This is how I played DMB, but that game has stagnated badly and is too costly to do more than a few seasons.

The attraction to me, if anyone cares, is being able to take the place of the on-field manager with the same personnel as real-life, and see if I can do better than he did. I enjoy the game of baseball more than the business aspect of it. The one thing OOTP has lacked up until 12 is the ability to re-create the day-to-day real-life rosters. I agree with the original post that now, possibly, this is going to happen.

The fact that it's the only baseball sim that runs natively on a Mac is another huge bonus.
