Strengths
This Twins team is better then most people might realize. Their starting pitching is a determined bunch and with Bery Blyleven and Johan Santana, strike outs should be a plenty. This team should also hit for average and create a bunch of runs.

Weaknesses
Lack of depth at almost all positions could be key as the bench drops in quality. Maybe a lack of a Hall of Fame arm could be a concern but in honesty this team is so well balanced weaknesses are hard to find.

Expectations
Some feel this team is the dark horse of the league. They should compete for a division title and if they can stay healthy could be expected in the playoffs.

Strengths
The most unbelievable lineup that could ever be assembled and is quite honestly unstoppable. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle lead a team that if the dont score 10 in a game will be a let down. Some think a 200 RBI season is possible with this team. Also throw in the best closer of all time for good measure in Mariano Rivera.

Weaknesses
Maybe too many stars? Who will horde the glory on this team and who will be a vocal leader? Some also say the pitching isnt the best in the game and will have to prove himself. Still finding flaws on this team is like critisizing Marylin Monroe (Dont let Dimaggio hear you).

Expectations
The most anticipated team of them all. A Championship is expected and nothing short of that.

Strengths
The Mets have a very balanced team and are strong at almost all of their positions. The starting rotation with Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden are good and another key tool this team has is speed with the likes of Jose Reyes and Mookie Wilson.

Weaknesses
Defense could be an issue with this team as Mike Piazza isnt great with the glove as is the case with most everyone else except for Keith Hernandez. The Bullpen needs to prove itself as well.

Expectations
The Mets dont want to be known as the "other" team in New York and will try and prove it. The NL East is very good and the Mets will need to be at their best to compete with the Phils and Braves.

Strengths
An incredibly talented team the Athletics have it all. Lefty Grove may be the best pitcher of the century and Dennis Eckersley was a dominant closer. More then anything however this team has more power then maybe all the teams combined; Jimmy Foxx, Mark McGwire, and Reggie Jackson are giants with the bat. Of course we also forgot to mention someone named Rickey Henderson.

Weaknesses
The rotation after Grove may not be the most dominant but Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter will prove themselves. Defense also could be spotty in spots.

Expectations
Other then the Yankees everyone is looking at this team as a powerhouse who can win it all. The A's have a great manager, a great history, and a bunch of the alltime best to ever play. Look out for this team.

Strengths
The Phillies do have a great history of pitching and this franchise teams shows it. Four quality starters even at this level and the enthusiasm of Tug McGraw and Mitch Williams out of the pen. The Phils also may have the best 3rd baseman of all time in Mike Jack Schmidt.

Weaknesses
The catching position is a little weak and the middle infield is good but maybe not great. The Phillies will lean on the great current franchises they have to cover decades of losing baseball.

Expectations
The Phils are expected to compete by the experts and their fans. The team has the tools to get it done but the battles in the NL East will be fierce and hard nosed.

The lineup is sparkling with not just talent but legends of the game. Honus Wagner and Roberto Clemente speak for themselves and the Wander brothers round out a dangerous lineup. Many forget what a great history Pittsburgh Baseball really has. Babe Adams anhors a good staff.

Weaknesses
Tony Pena will do the catching and that is not a strength at this level. There are some holes in the lineup but the Pirates should have more then enough to get by. The end of the starting rotation with Candelaria and Drabek needs to be good.

Expectations
In an open central division the Pirates arnt expected to win it but definately compete. This team is a mystery in some ways and many are very intrigued to see how Chuck Tanner puts it all toghther.

Strengths
The Padres have a very good outfield and the perfect designated hitter in Jack Clark. Tony Gwynn will be among the leaders in hitting and never forget that this team has Trevor Hoffman, the NL version of Mariano.

Weaknesses
There are a number of them. The infield and catching situation is far from strong, especially when Phil Nevin is your starting 3rd base man. Starting pitching will also be a big concern and Dave Drevecky and Andy Benes may not be cut out for this level.

Expectations
What can one expect from a team that never won a World Series? There is always optimism in San Diego and to sit in the sun and watch this kind of baseball would be enough for anyone; winning will be asking too much.

Strengths
The Giants may have the best rotation in all of baseball. Christy Matthewson and Juan Marichal join Carl Hubbell and Tim Lincecum to create a rotation that is flawless. Willie Mays and Barry Bonds lead a lineup that will create runs in every possible way.

Weaknesses
Very few weaknesses. Some issues on the infield and at catcher but overall the Giants have little opponents can prey on. The bullpen will need the starters to do most of the work and Rod Beck in the closer role isnt the best around.

Expectations
One of the true favorites. The Giants will battle the Dodgers for everything they have and the rivals are both very strong. This team lead by Durocher is expected to win and many scouts wonder how they can lose, some calling them the Yankees of the National League.

Strengths
Superstar Hall of Fame talent in Ken Griffey, Ichiro, and Alex Rodriguez will make this team better then most believe. With Omar Vizquil making an appearace at short stop the team defense will also be fast and sharp. The Big Unit Randy Johnson is also a good ace to lead the staff.

Weaknesses
A lack of depth for Piniella and his men as they cant afford an injury to almost anyone. The bullpen is decent but the 3rd and 4th starters are not on par with the big players in the league.

Expectations
The fans in Seattle will be load and loyal no matter what and the talent in some places is better then anyone. Still no one expects the Mariners to win a pennant but being able compete for a Wild Card spot could be a reality if things break right.

Strengths
Bob Gibson may be the very best ace any rotation can have and he is the strength of this team. Speed has always been a part of the Cardinal game and Lou Brock, Willie McGee, and Ozzie Smith all could change a game; Vince Coleman is also on the roster. The team will then be molded by Stan Musial and Rogers Hornsby.

Weaknesses
Like so many other teams the Cardinals are strong throughout. Still the rotation isnt completely rounded with Juaquin Andujar and Chris Carpenter playing a big role. Ozzie Smith and Lou Brock will also have to produce something from the plate.

Expectations
Cardinal fans want a central division championship but will have the Cubs and the Pirates to contend with among others. Still St. Louis should make a run for the finish and is among the better teams in the National League.

Strengths
The Ryan Express and the Rangers will do it the Texas way, with the long ball and the fast ball. The team has a group of hitters from all positions that can slam the baseball. Driving in runs shouldnt be a problem for this team; Ivan Rodriguez is also one of the most polished catchers to ever play.

Weaknesses
The pitching just doesnt seem to be good enough. Ryan is a power pitcher but does let up some runs and Charlie Hough along with Kenny Rogers may be too average for this level. A bit of lack of speed could also hurt this team in the closer games.

Expectations
This team is in a tough spot in the Amercian league and with their pitching isnt going to win anything of significance. Still the Rangers will be tough to hold down and can do damage if a pitcher has a bad day. A losing record is likely however.

Strengths
Roberto Alomat and Devon White are among the best defensive players at their position that anyone has seen. The Jays also have a good starting staff with someone like Al Leiter not even being a regular; Dave Stieb and Roy Halladay can go up against anyone.

Weaknesses
The lineup has holes in it that could come back and haunt this team. There is really no true power source but just solid players that may be considered good but not great.

Expectations
Cito Gaston is a great manager and the team has a number of good players but the Jays arnt going anywhere in the AL East. The Yankees, Red Sox and Indians make this division the toughest around, and the Jays are just along for the ride.

Strengths
Walter Johnson and Pedro Martinez may be the best combination of starting pitchers any team has and immediatelly make the Nationals a threat. The team has other tools like Gary Carter and Andre Dawson, but its the starting pitching that is gold. The bullpen isnt bad either

Weaknesses
The infield is weak both with the glove and with the bats. Alfonso Soriano isnt a second baseman and his performance could be destructive. Like many teams as well the lack of depth on this team is telling as well.

Expectations
In a four team division the Nationals may be able to make a run at this division. Although not the favorite they should be right up there with the talent the Mets have and not far off from the Braves and Phillies.

TY COBB GUARANTEES BATTING TITLE

Spring training began for the most anticipated Baseball season is under way and modern day suoerstars are getting to know older ones from so many diffrent generations.

Confidence isnt lacking from another of these players and some are disliked, others respected, and other admired. Ty Cobb met the media as the Tiger camp opened and didnt mince any words.

"I will win the batting title" said Cobb without a hint of a smile, "there has never been a man born who is a better hitter then me. To be honest it wont even be close." Cobb then let a good verbal tirade go about some of the other stars of the Cooperstown League.

Ted Williams didnt waste anytime in his response as he was quoted saying from Red Sox camp, "Tell him to put on a uniform, take the field, and shut up."

Cobb and Williams are the favorites to win the batting title but other names like Wade Boggs, Rogers Hornsby, and Tony Gwynn cant be overlooked.

Top 10 Questions
As Spring Training games continue and opening night approaches, a number of questions are key as the Cooperstown League begins:

1. Can the Yankees Be Stopped?
There is no doubt that the favorites to win it all are the Yankees. Their depth and talent are head and shoulders above their competition, but can the Red Sox pull the suprise and beat them? Anyone other then the Yankees winning it all would be a huge story.

2. Who will win the batting title?
So many candidates with so many great players. Also remember that the pitching is much better so averages in general should be down. Ty Cobb and Ted Williams are getting all the hype but many other names could suprize, names like Gwynn, Brett, Hornsby, or even Dimaggio or Lajoie.

3. Who has better pitching, the Giants or the Dodgers?
So would you go with Koufax or Matthewson? Drysdale or Marichal? The two historic rivals have some of the best arms ever to take the mound and with them playing eachother so many times, it should be a joy to watch.

4. How will the Steroid Era Do?
The likes of Clemens and Bonds now face off against the players they "cheated" to beat. Will the diffrence be great when they actually play against eachother or will these "black listed" players show their true greatness?

5. Who will win the Home Run Title?
Of course the Babe is the favorite but with so so many to compete against him this should be a great race. Bonds could be a factor as are Aaron, Sosa, Foxx, or Mantle.

6. Who will be the unsung hero?
We all know the big names like Mays, Musial, Gibson, and Rivera but who will step up and be a star among stars even though their resume didnt show it? Someone like a Willie Mcgee or a Vida Pinson could become allstars.

7. Perfectos or No Hitter coming?
With so many great arms will anyone be able to throw a no hitter or dare we say it a perfect game for the 162 game season? Surely Koufax, Matthewson, or Ryan have a chance everytime they take the mound.

8. Who will win the gold gloves?
Take right field for example, Clemente or Dawson? Or maybe shortstop where Vizquel and Boudreau battle it out. So many good fielders, only two awards per position.

9. Another DiMaggio streak?
Who will have the longest hitting streak and can Joe Dimaggio put together something similar to his 1941 run? Some say it would be easier for him with all the support he has around him.

10. The first time time Clemens faces Ruth what happens?
Like so many other intriguing matchups what will result from so many of the greats fcing off against eachother?

Finally here are the predictions going into the season:

AL EAST
1. New York Yankees
2. Cleveland Indians
3. Boston Red Sox
4. Toronto Blue Jays
5. Baltimore Orioles

AL CENTRAL
1. Detroit Tigers
2. Chicago White Sox
3. Minnesota Twins
4. KC Royals
5. Milwaukee Brewers

AL WEST
1. Oakland Athletics
2. Seattle Mariners
3. LA Angels
4. Texas Rangers

3. Pittsburgh Pirates
4. Cincinnati Reds
5. Houston Astros

NL WEST
1. San Francisco Giants
2. Brooklyn Dodgers
3. San Diego Padres
4. Colorado Rockies
5. Arizona Diamond Backs

Wild Cards

SPRING TRAINING REPORT

Little if anything can be concluded from spring training about the fortunes of teams and the season ahead. The main focus is to round into shape, work on fundamentals, and most of all avoid injury. For what its worth however here is a short overview of significant events this Spring:
  • The Pittsburgh Pirates finished with the best record at 17-9
  • The Arizona Diamond Backs had the worst record at 6-18
  • Mickey Cochrane of Oakland lead the spring in hitting with a .435 average.
  • Tino Martinez of the Mariners lead the Spring in home runs with 7.
  • Ron Darling of the Mets won 5 games while Christy Matthewson had a .038 ERA.
  • Phil Niekro of Atlanta lead in strikeouts with 69
  • Jeff Reardon on the Washington Nationals was the only significant injury, Reardon will be lost for the season with an elbow problem.
Lost for season

Now all eyes are focused on opening night when the New York Mets visit the Washington Nationals in the nation's capatal. Walter Johnson will be taking the mound in what will be a festive opening to the Cooperstown Baseall Season.

Opening Night Shines For Mets

Sunday, April 4th, 2010
123456789RHE
New York (N) Mets00031502011113
Washington Nationals1002000058101

Washington DC - A special night in Washington DC as the Cooperstown Baseball League opened its season and the best to ever play now have a showcase to play in the ultimate baseball league.

A beautiful jet flyover and a stunning National Anthem sung by Alicia Keys. President Barak Obama then threw out the first pitch and the legendary Walter Johnson took the mound. Opposing Johnson in this one was Tom Seaver, Seaver and the Mets were again out to prove that they could be a force in this division.

Jose Reyes flew out to Tim Raines in left and the season is now official. This day in the end would belong to the Mets who came after Johnson with mostly the long ball.

Trailing 1-0 in the 4th inning Lenny Dykstra hammered a Johnson fastball to right field over the fence for a three run home run. Johnson was being clocked as high as 104 miles an hour so the ball jumped off the bat. After five inning Felipe Alou took Johnson out of the game and went to his bullpen, and this is where things got away.

The Mets scored five runs in the 6th off Tim Burke as Mike Piazza singled in two and then Jeff Kent doubled in two more. Kent had a huge night as he homered in the 8th and ended the night with 4 RBI. Dykstra drove in three himself and by the 9th inning it was an 11-3 lead.

For the Nationals Marquis Grissom had the big day including making the game quite respectable as he hit a grand slam in the bottom of the ninth with two men out. The shot forced John Franco to come in and close the door for the save.

It was clear the Mets had a point to prove in their opener. Tom Seaver is going to be the leader of this staff and team but too many games remain to take anything from this one. Doc Gooden faces Pedro Madrtinez in game two of this series.

Yankees Lose; Mathewson dominates

Tigers at Royals - Royals Stadium
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Detroit (0-1)010000000160
Kansas City (1-0)00210100x470
W: B. Saberhagen (1-0) L: M. Lolich (0-1)

Saberhagen is as sharp as can be in the Royals season opening win. Ty Cobb only goes 1-4 while Carlos Beltran goes 2-4 with 2 runs.

Braves at Astros - Minute Maid Park
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Atlanta (1-0)13000200410122
Houston (0-1)13000100x581
W: G. Maddux (1-0) L: JR. Richard (0-1)

>
Both JR Richard and Greg Maddux struggled in the game in Houston. Maddux gets the win but allows four earned runs. Chipper Jones drives in three and the Braves open things up with a four run ninth. Julio Cruz hit a three run home run for the Astros but it wasn’t enough.

Blue Jays at Mariners - Safeco Field
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Toronto (1-0)200000001380
Seattle (0-1)00010000x150
W: R. Halladay (1-0) L: R. Johnson (0-1)

>
A strong pitching matchup of power between Roy Halladay and Randy Johnson. Both pitchers were on top of their games but Halladay gets the better striking out ten and allowing one run. Kelly Gruber and Jesse Barfield drove in one run each while Devon White hit a home run. Alex Rodriguez had the only run off Halladay with a solo shot in the 4th.

Pirates at Cubs - Wrigley Field Chicago, IL
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Pittsburgh (0-1)0110100003112
Chicago (1-0)03000100x471
W: M. Brown (1-0) L: B. Adams (0-1) S: L. Smith (1)

>
Opening day at Wrigley Field and Gabby Hartnett got the home side to the perfect start with a wind blown three run home run off Babe Adams. The game stayed close into the 9th where the Pirates loaded the bases down a run with Roberto Clemente and Paul Wander at the plate; neither got the job done against Lee Smith and Chicago wins.

Orioles at Indians - Jacobs Field Cleveland, Ohio
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Baltimore (1-0)30000103310181
Cleveland (0-1)00000200x260
W: Jim Palmer (1-0) L: Bob Feller (0-1)

An 18 hit barrage for the Orioles off of starter Bob Feller kicks off the season in style for Baltimore and Earl Weaver. Eddie Murray drove in 5 runs including a three run home run in the very first inning. Jim Palmer strikes out seven and goes the distance.

Padres at Dodgers - Ebbetts Field Brooklyn New York
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
San Diego (1-0)1120220019141
Los Angeles (0-1)001000000181
W: Kevin Brown (1-0) L: Sandy Koufax (0-1)

>
The Padres bomb Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers in Brooklyn. Four home runs for the visitors and a very impressive performance for Kevin Brown stuns the home team. Koufax just didn’t have it today allowing six earned runs in 5.2 innings. Dave Winfield drove in three.

Reds at Cardinals - Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati Ohio
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Cincinnati (1-0)4001101029101
St. Louis (0-1)000100200381
W: John Van Der Meer (1-0) L: Bob Gibson (0-1)

Ted Kluszewski is a fine addition to the Red Machine driving in four runs and hitting two home runs against Bob Gibson. Gibson is another ace that didn’t have it in this game and allowed eight runs; his fastball was missing something. Pete Rose also went deep and had a nice game going 2-4; Rose doesn’t let anyone intimidate him.

Rockies at Giants - Att Park San Francisco CA
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Colorado (0-1)000000000030
San Francisco (1-0)10200000x340
W: C. Matthewson (1-0) L: M. Hampton (0-1)

No let downs for the Giants and Christy Mathewson. The Big Six pitched a three hit shutout against the lace>Rockieslace> and showed that if anyone is to beat him they need to be perfect. Mike Hampton pitched well but not perfect allowing three runs on four hits. Mel Ott had the big blow of the game with a two run home run.
>
Rangers at Brewers - Miller Park Milwaukee WI
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Texas (0-1)4010000005100
Milwaukee (1-0)02200002x691
W: T. Higuera (1-0) L: D. Bosman (0-1)

Cecil Cooper drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 8th as the Brewers rallied to beat the Rangers. Teddy Higuera brushed off a rough start and shut down the Rangers before his offense could get to Nolan Ryan. The Rangers had scored four runs in the first inning thanks to Rafael Palmeiro who was 2-4 on the night.

Athletics at Angels - Angles Ball Park Aneheim CA
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Oakland (0-1)000100001230
Los Angeles (1-0)40100000x591
W: C. Finley (1-0) L: L. Grove (0-1)

It must be the nerves of opening night but Lefty Grove joins the group with poor opening starts as the Angels score four in the very first inning and hold on behind Chuck Finley who holds the A’s to three hits. Wally Joyner and Brian Downing drive in two a piece.
White Sox at Yankees - Yankee Stadium, Bronx NY
Apr 5, 2010123456789RHE
Chicago (1-0)000000101270
New York (0-1)000001000170
W: E. Walsh (1-0) L: W. Ford (0-1)

>
The Yankees open the Cooperstown season with a tough loss against the White Sox and Ed Walsh. Babe Ruth did hit his first home run of the season but that is all the Yankees would get as Walsh and Whitey Ford battled it out. Minnie Minoso tripled in the winning run in the top of the ninth as Chicago prevails. A very good and well played game.

BUDDY BELL HITS FOR CYCLE!

It didnt take long for something extra special to take place this season. On only the second day of the new campaign Texas Rangers third baseman Buddy Bell showed his class by completing a cycle in an 8-3 Rangers win over Minnesota. On top of everything Bell topped it off by hitting a grand slam.

"To do that at this level is something special" said Bell who drove in four runs and scored three more, "I just feel good at the plate and want to help this team do something no one expects us to."

Mike Caldwell of the Brewers was the unfortunate victim as these teams split the first two games of their series at Miller Park. Bell is hitting .500 in his first two games having gone 5-10.

Charlie Hough got the win for the Rangers.

Blyleven K's Nine DiamondBacks
Bert Blyleven was part of tremendous win for the Minnesota Twins. Blyleven pitched a shutout striking out 9 men and allowing only 3 hits in the 13-0 win at Chase Field.

Goose Goslin and Joe Cronin combined to drive in seven runs as the Twins were all over Curt Schilling who had nothing on this opening night. The Twins battered out 18 hits and reminded many why the D'Backs are expected to be among the worst teams in the league.

Dodgers back on Track
In what may become a normal trend the LA Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres and Jake Peavy with great pitching in their 7-0 shutout. Orel Hershiser eased Tommy LaSorda's mind with a fine performance that included six strikeouts.

Babe Herman was the hitting star of the day collecting three doubles in the win. Herman drove in two and scored two as the Dodgers cruised to tie the series.

Other scores
Yankees 8 White Sox 6
Ron Guidry gets the Yanks back on track

Angels 10 Athletics 4
The A's have dropped their first two games thanks in large part to Vlad Guerrero who scored four runs.

Nationals 4 Mets 1
The Gooden vs Pedro matchup was a good one as Rusty Staub single handedly won this one for the home side with 2 home runs off the Doctor.

Cardinals 5 Reds 9
Vada Pinson drives in five runs as Dizzy Dean and the Cards drop their second home game.

Cubs 0 Pirates 2
A Dave Parker 2 run home run is the diffrence in this game as Deacon Phillipe shuts out Chicago.

Six In 9th Culminates Giant Rally

San Francisco - The Colorado Rockies looked poised and comfortable to win the second game of their series against the San Francisco Giants. Jeff Cirillo had driven in three runs and Vinny Castilla hit a two rin home run in support of Rockie starter Shawn Estes.

Juan Marichal struggled all day and when Cirillo hit a two run home run in the top of the ninth the Rockies had a comfortble 8-3 lead. Greatness however comes when it is needed the most, and the Giants came ready in a historic 9th inning.

Seven hits in a row and the game was turned over to the home team, four of the hits were doubles. Larry Doyle led off with a single and Mel Ott doubled. Willie Mays singled in the first run and then Barry Bonds doubled to score one and Orlando Cepeda singled to score another. Freddie Linstrom doubled to score Bonds and with two men on the game was 8-7 in favor of the Rockies. Will Clark faced Darren Holmes and seventh man to bat in the inning made it look easiest with a shot to the opposite field that scored two and ended the game.

Pandomonium at AT&T Park as the Giants came all the way back for the win.

Moyer Delivers For Mariners
Jamie Moyer put out his best effort as the Mariners won a very tough pitching duel agaisnt the Toronto Blue Jays 1-0. Jimmy Key and Moyer faced eachother down almost pitch to pitch before the game was broken open by Alex Rodriguez who hit an 8th inning solo shot.

Moyer struck out four and allowed only two hits on the night even though his defense behind him made three errors.

"You cant waste pitching performances like the one we saw today" said Mariners boss Lou Piniella.

Yankees crack 21 hits in win
The New York Yankees took the rubber game of their series against the Chicago White Sox by showing the true potential of their offense in a 13-5 win in the Bronx.

Mark Buerhle had no chance today as the Yankees put up 10 runs in the second inning as Mickey Mantle and Babe Ruth went back to back with long home runs. Roger Maris went 4-5 including a home run and the Yankees drilled out 21 hits and made it all look easy.

Yankee starter Red Ruffing didnt have his best stuff tonight but frankly didnt need it as the offense did more then enough. One gets the feeling that this type of game will be the norm for the Yanks this season.

Other scores

Orioles 6 Indians 3
A four run ninth inning led by George Sisler (2-4) gives the Orioles the cushion they need to beat CC Sabathia.

Mets 7 Nationals 3
The Mets take 2 out of three on Washington thanks to a five run first inning. Mike Piazza hit a home run and scored 2 other times.

Padres 9 Dodgers 4
Four Dodger errors and a nice game by Tony Gwynn who drove in three gave the rubber game of this series to the Padres. Pedro Guerrero hit two home runs for the Dodgers but it wasnt enough.

Braves 4 Astros 7
Houston scores 6 runs in the first three innings off Warren Spahn as Craig Biggio goes 3-4 in support of winning pitcher Mike Scott.

Rangers 2 Brewers 3 10 inn
Muse Haas pitches 10 innings and Dave Nilsson hits walk off home run in the 10th to send the Brewers away with the series win.

Reds 6 Cardinals 5
Its a sweep for the Reds in St. Louis this time behind Dolf Luque. Pete Rose continues his hot hitting (.385) and the Cardinls are stunned in their opening series to start the season.

Tigers 1 Royals 3
The Tiger offense remains in nuetral as Kevin Appier goes the distance for the win. Ty Cobb hits a home run for the only Tiger score of the game.

Pirates 4 Cubs 3
Roberto Clemente drove in two runs and is batting .429 for the young season as a late rally comes up short for the Cubs. Doug Drabek had better stuff the Rick Sutcliffe.

A's 8 Angels 6
A six run third inning did in Mike Witt and the Angels as the A's get back on trck behind Catfish Hunter. Mark McGwire contributes with his first long one of the season.

Twins 3 Diamondbacks 1
Jim Kaat was excellent going the distance and allowing only one run. Arizona looks as it will truly have trouble scoring runs this season as they see another anemic offensive day.
