OOTP Fantasy Leagues 1.0 Public Beta is Coming

Well, we didn't even make 12 hours after it's release before the first show stopping bugs have appeared. Thanks once again to Corsairs for jumping right in and bringing them to my attention.

The main ZIP file on the 1.0 Release page has been updated to 1.0.1.

In case you downloaded the mod before 12:00pm EST today, you can update your files using just a patch file which is also on the site. Simply extract it and overwrite the files on your server with those included.

Patch #2 is now available. It fixes several bugs and adds a number of new administrative features for game admins.

I have no idea what this does. Never been involved in any type of fantasy league. Haven't been able to find basic information on it. So for now I'll have to pass. Maybe a simple faq would help some of us.

Jeff, I've encountered an error message when trying to access my league after upgrading (I followed the instructions on this page):

A Database Error Occurred
Error Number: 1054
Unknown column 'playoff_rounds' in 'field list'

I looked at your links and also looked at wiki to try and see what a fantasy league is. I still have no idea. I don't see how this is different from just playing the game.

Here's the main difference between online leagues and fantasy leagues, in a nutshell...

A fantasy league season takes place concurrently with the real-life MLB season. The active players on an owner/GM's team receive points/rankings based on the stats their real-life counterparts accumulate in real-world games.

What Fox has created is essentially an online stat processing service for fantasy leagues who want to use players from an OOTP universe, instead of real-life MLB players. So instead of real-life players accumulating stats in real-world games, the stats come from OOTP players playing in simulated games.

In other words, OOTP FL will allow you to build a fantasy team from players in an OOTP universe. As you simulate games in OOTP, it will take the accumulated stats of these players on your fantasy roster, tally up the points they've earned based on their stats (using your individual league's scoring system), and keep track of the fantasy team standings in your league.

I've noted 3 great things about this...

1. It allows fans of more popular online leagues who aren't actually GMs to at least indirectly participate.
2. With the MLB regular season over, hardcore fantasy baseball fans can get an offseason fantasy fix by participating in a fantasy league based on an OOTP league using MLB rosters.
3. Because fantasy leagues have become so popular in recent years, it would benefit OOTP to tap into this market a little more. And OOTP FL might just prove to be a "gateway" for fantasy fans to become familiar with OOTP.

I need to check the index page because you shouldn't really see an error, but my first question is, did you run the database update on the admin dashboard after installing the mod or is it throwing the error before you get there? What page did this error occur on, the home page?

I think I understand it now. I never go online for one thing (with any game). And if it would work solo I think it's something that wouldn't be of interest to me. But kudos for making it, I can see where a lot of people would like it.

When you say "database update", do you mean reloading the SQL files? I did do that and still get the error message. For the record, I believe I added in all the appropriate lines from the "constants_upgrade.php" file to the "constants.php" file.

John, try uploading the file attached to the install directory and run the SQL update again. Let me know if you get an error running the SQL update or if it goes through and works.

Still receiving the error after uploading the "db_update.sql" file to my /install directory and running a SQL update, unfortunately.

Do you have access to the Db Via phpmyadmin? If so, can you verify your permissions (create, insert, etc.). You may not have access to alter tables (a problem I'll maybe have to solve for)

Can you tell me where in phpmyadmin I can verify my permissions? Since this is using the same database as StatsLab, though, I don't think that's the problem; I've never had any trouble updating StatsLab's database before.
