Week 8 Standings

Code:
1st Half Standings (June 28th, 2010)

W L PCT GB This Week
Breese 26 14 .650 -- 5-0
Belleville 24 16 .600 2 2-3
Alton 23 17 .575 3 3-2
Columbia 20 20 .500 6 3-2
O'Fallon 20 20 .500 6 2-3
Staunton 18 22 .450 8 3-2
Jerseyville 16 24 .400 10 1-4
Edwardsville 13 27 .325 13 1-4
Breese took the lead back from Belleville with a great week (5-0). Belleville struggled and is now 2 games back. Alton continues to hang on and is currently 3 games back. With just 10 to play, it's still a three-team race. And once again, none of the top three teams will be facing each other this week. Breese is playing Staunton and Columbia. Belleville is playing Jerseyville and O'Fallon. And Alton is facing O'Fallon and Edwardsville.

Player of the Week:

Patrick Hatch (RF) -- Breese Whirlwinds
12 for 20 (.600), 2 HR, 7 RBI

Week 9 Standings

Code:
1st Half Standings (July 5th, 2010)

W L PCT GB This Week
Breese 29 16 .644 -- 3-2
Alton 28 17 .622 1 5-0
Belleville 25 20 .556 4 1-4
Columbia 22 23 .489 7 2-3
O'Fallon 22 23 .489 7 2-3
Jerseyville 20 25 .444 9 4-1
Staunton 20 25 .444 9 2-3
Edwardsville 14 31 .311 15 1-4
Alton surged into 2nd place and stands just 1 game back of Breese with 5 to play. Belleville had a bad week and they're going to need some help. They do play 2 against Breese and 3 against Alton, so they still have a chance, albeit slim. Looks like this one could go down to the wire. Since it's so close, we'll look at game recaps for the remaining games, until it's decided.

Player of the Week:

John Tomlinson (3B) -- O'Fallon Immortals
11 for 19 (.579), 4 RBI

Columbia 6, Alton 2

CF Jeff Decker put Columbia ahead in the 1st with an RBI single, then put them ahead for good in the 3rd with a 2-run HR. SP Keith Johnson pitched a complete game for the win. Alton's offense was unable to get much going: just solo HRs in the 1st and 9th. They remain 1 GB with 4 to play, since Breese also lost.

Belleville 4, Breese 0

Breese had their ace, John Kennedy, on the mound today, but Belleville's #2 starter, Arthur Scott, out-dueled him. Scott was excellent (8 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 8 K) and picked up his 6th win of the season. The Cannons move to 3 GB with 4 to play. They have little margin for error, although they would win all tie-breakers.

Columbia 7, Alton 4 (11 innings)

C Kevin Arnold did his best for Alton, hitting a two-run shot in the 1st and another 2-run shot in the 3rd to put the River Hawks up 4-3. But Columbia tied it up in the 6th with a 2-out RBI single from LF Robert Hall. The Knights loaded the bases with 2-outs in the 11th and got the go-ahead run across on a wild pitch! Alton is still 1 GB, since Breese lost as well.

Belleville 6, Breese 3

Breese led 2-0 and blew it, then lead 3-2 and blew it. 3B Dan Davis had three hits for Belleville including a two-run double in the 6th that put Belleville up 6-3. With just three games to play, Belleville has improved to 2 GB and they'll play three against Alton to finish out the first half. Breese will face Jerseyville. The race is getting a bit tight!

Code:
Pennant Race (3 to play)

Belleville 4, Alton 2

Belleville SP Marty Pollard held Alton to just 4 hits and 2 runs over 8 innings and got the win. LF Steven Bennett put Belleville on top to stay with a 2-run double in the 2nd. LF Tom Beauregard hit a solo HR in the 2nd for the River Hawks, but besides that they had trouble getting much going. With this win, Belleville moves into a 2nd place tie with Alton and both teams are 2 games back with 2 to play.

Breese 7, Jerseyville 1

This game was very close for most of it. Tied 1-1 in the 9th, Breese loaded the bases with 2 outs. 1B Edward Cobb put the Whirlwinds on top with an RBI single, then RF Patrick Hatch put the game out of reach with a grand slam! Zachary Coates added another HR to make it back-to-back shots and put Breese up 7-1. With just 2 to play Breese is on the cusp of winning the 1st half. They just need to win one of the next two, or failing that have Alton/Belleville split their next two.

Code:
Pennant Race (2 to play)

Breese 30 18 .625 --

Alton 5, Belleville 3

Close game, but Alton got the better of it. 3B Dan Davis gave Belleville the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the 1st with a 3-run HR. It would hold until the 7th when PH Lou Cain doubled in two for Alton. With the win, Alton pulled out in front of Belleville, but since Breese won, both of these teams were eliminated.

Breese 8, Jerseyville 3

Breese clinches the 1st half with a solid win over Jerseyville. Both teams had three HR in this one, but Jerseyville's were all solo shots and they couldn't get anything else going. C Vincent Benson was the offensive star for the Whirlwinds today. He hit a 2-run HR in the 5th that gave Breese the lead and a 2-RBI double in the 6th that helped put the game out of reach.

Week 10 Standings

Code:
FINAL 1st Half Standings (July 12th, 2010)

W L PCT GB This Week
1st Breese 32 18 .640 -- 3-2
2nd Alton 30 20 .600 2 2-3
3rd Belleville 28 22 .560 4 3-2
4th O'Fallon 26 24 .520 6 4-1
5th Columbia 25 25 .500 7 3-2
6th Staunton 22 28 .440 10 2-3
7th Jerseyville 20 30 .400 12 0-5
8th Edwardsville 17 33 .340 15 3-2
It was competitive to the end, but Breese held off Alton and Belleville to win the 1st half. We'll be starting the 2nd half right away and some teams can't wait to start fresh. Edwardsville, for example, had a horrible 1st half and will be glad to see their record reset to 0-0. Breese, meanwhile will be looking to win both halves and take home the Championship without any playoff games!

Player of the Week:

John McNeal (LF) -- O'Fallon Immortals
11 for 19 (.579), 3 HR, 9 RBI

Waterloo, Grafton win minor league 1st half

Code:
High Minor League
FINAL 1st Half Standings (July 12th, 2010)

                        W L PCT GB
1st Waterloo 34 16 .680 --
2nd Fairview Heights 31 19 .620 3
3rd Glen Carbon 29 21 .580 5
4th Mascoutah 23 27 .460 11
5th Brighton 23 27 .460 11

7th Carlyle 19 31 .380 15
7th Wood River 19 31 .380 15
Waterloo (affiliated with Columbia) dominated for most of the first half. They actually stumbled a bit at the end and Fairview Heights (affiliated with Belleville) got hot (9-1 finish), otherwise this would look more lopsided. Glen Carbon (affiliated with Edwardsville) got off to a hot start and was hanging with Waterloo for a while, but they dropped back and have to settle for 3rd.

Code:
Low Minor League
FINAL 1st Half Standings (July 12th, 2010)

8th Lebanon 18 32 .360 16
The Low Minor League was actually close for a long time, but Grafton (affiliated with Jerseyville) got very hot at the end (14-2) and left everyone else in their dust. Valmeyer (affiliated with Columbia) edged out Trenton (affiliated with Breese) and Freeburg (affiliated with Belleville) for 2nd place with tiebreakers.

Week 11 Standings

Code:
2nd Half Standings (July 19th, 2010)

Breese 3 2 .600 1 3-2

Jerseyville 1 4 .200 3 1-4
Edwardsville 1 4 .200 3 1-4
O'Fallon gets out in front to start the 2nd half. They hope they'll be able to stay there a while. Alton, Breese, and Belleville, who all fought for the lead in the 1st half, start off 3-2 just behind the Immortals. Edwardsville was beat up in the 1st half and they're still getting beat up.

Player of the Week:

John McNeal (LF) -- O'Fallon Immortals
11 for 21 (.524), 3 RBI

Week 12 Standings

Code:
2nd Half Standings (July 26th, 2010)

W L PCT GB This Week
O'Fallon 8 2 .800 -- 4-1

Alton 5 5 .500 3 2-3

Columbia 3 7 .300 5 0-5
O'Fallon has extended their lead to 2 games with another good week (4-1). We'll see if they can hold on for a while. Breese, the 1st half winners, have fallen off the pace a bit with a poor week (1-4). But, I suppose the biggest surprise was Edwardsville. They really picked themselves up and are back to .500. It's still anyone's to win, unless O'Fallon can go on a run.

Columbia 4 11 .267 9 1-4
O'Fallon is on fire. They went 5-0 this week and are currently on a 9 game winning streak. They've also put some space between themselves and 2nd place Belleville. Staunton and Alton face O'Fallon next week and will try to cool them down. Breese, the 1st half champs, are still looking a bit off, but at least they know they'll be playing for the championship regardless.

Week 14 Standings

Code:
2nd Half Standings (August 9th, 2010)

W L PCT GB This Week
O'Fallon 17 3 .850 -- 4-1

Columbia 6 14 .300 11 2-3
O'Fallon extended their lead to 6 games, partly due to going 4-1 this week and partly due to Belleville and Alton playing poorly (1-4). Staunton is now in 2nd, despite losing 2 of 3 against O'Fallon this week. With 30 games left to play in the 2nd half, this is clearly O'Fallon's race to lose.

Columbia 6 19 .240 13 0-5
O'Fallon cooled off a bit this week but still has a healthy led. Edwardsville, who finished in last place in the 1st half, have pulled into a 2nd-place tie with Staunton. Alton and Breese also played very good baseball this week. Overall, things tightened up a little bit for most teams, but O'Fallon is still very much in control with 25 games to play.

O'Fallon maintained their 5 game lead with just 20 to play. Alton has moved into a 2nd place tie with Staunton and it seems that it anyone will catch O'Fallon it will be one of these two teams. Breese has clawed it's way back to .500 and they are currently in 4th. Edwardsville's chances took a big hit as they couldn't win a game this week and dropped to 8 games back. O'Fallon will play two against Alton and three against Columbia next week.

Player of the Week:

Bruce Davis (CF) -- Staunton Rebels
10 for 23 (.435), 2 HR, 3 RBI, 6 R

There wasn't much movement this week. O'Fallon had another solid week and is still out in front by 5 games on Alton. Edwardsville was the only team to gain ground on the leader. They now find themselves back over .500, but 7 games out. With just 15 to play, O'Fallon is in a commanding position, but there are a number of good teams close enough to take advantage if they should falter down the stretch. Looking ahead, they'll play two against Edwardsville and three against Breese next week.

Player of the Week:

Steven Bennett (RF) -- Belleville Cannons
9 for 17 (.529), 4 HR, 7 RBI

Week 18 Standings

Code:
2nd Half Standings (September 6th, 2010)

W L PCT GB This Week
O'Fallon 28 12 .700 -- 3-2
Alton 23 17 .575 5 3-2
Staunton 23 17 .575 5 4-1
Breese 21 19 .525 7 3-2
Edwardsville 20 20 .500 8 2-3
Belleville 18 22 .450 10 2-3
Jerseyville 16 24 .400 12 2-3
Columbia 11 29 .275 17 1-4
O'Fallon (3-2) continues to chug along towards winning the 2nd half. Alton (3-2) kept pace, but this late, you really need to do more than keep pace. Staunton (4-1) had a good week and moved into a 2nd place tie with Alton. With just 10 games left, if someone's going to make a move, it'd better start soon. O'Fallon plays two against Jerseyville and three against Staunton next week. Could be interesting if Staunton stays hot.

Player of the Week:

Dave Drake (LF) -- Edwardsville Snarl
9 for 17 (.529), 2 HR, 7 RBI

Week 19 Standings

Code:
2nd Half Standings (September 13th, 2010)

W L PCT GB This Week
O'Fallon 30 15 .667 -- 2-3
Alton 26 19 .578 4 3-2
Staunton 25 20 .556 5 2-3
Breese 24 21 .533 6 3-2
Edwardsville 22 23 .489 8 2-3
Belleville 21 24 .467 9 3-2
Jerseyville 18 27 .400 12 2-3
Columbia 14 31 .311 16 3-2
O'Fallon is almost there with just 5 games to play. They hold the tie-breaker with Alton, so they only need one more win to clinch it (or a loss from both Alton and Staunton). Perhaps a little more interesting is the race for home-field advantage between Breese (1st half winner) and O'Fallon (likely 2nd half winner) in the Championship Series. Overall record (from both 1st and 2nd half) determines home-field advantage and both Breese and O'Fallon are tied at 56-39. Breese holds the tie-breaker should they finish with the exact same record. We'll take a closer look at the games next week until the 2nd half winner and home-field advantage is decided.

Player of the Week:

Dave Hudson (CF) -- Breese Whirlwinds
14 for 23 (.609), 2 HR, 7 RBI
