154 or 162 based on league size/scheduling. It's OK to sim some games. What I usually do is sim until the 7th inning and handle the bullpen from then on. I can play like 15 games in 1 hr this way.

I go with a 90 game season, with 24 teams: 2 leagues, 3 divisions per league, and 4 teams per division.
Each team plays it's division teams 12 times (6 home, 6 away) for a total of 36 division games. Then they play each intra league team 6 times (3 home, 3 away) for a total of 48 intra-league games. That leaves 6 games for inter league match-ups, or one home inter league series and one away inter league series. I use the previous season's standings to determine what inter league matchups will be played for the next season, so you get the best teams between leagues playing each other. I've played out all of my games - a 90 game season - for 10 seasons so far. It's fun and you really get to build a nice history. I'd personally rather have 10 seasons of 90 games, with playoffs, awards, etc. than say 5 seasons. I also play the All-Star game at game 60, so I have some reasonably accurate season stats. Brian |

Akthough its fictional, my league is loosely based off MLB so I go with 162 games.

112 game schedule. Regular season series are 4 games each. (Classic 16 team fictional league.)

For my Major League, I play a 100-game season so that I can accentuate player development. For my Minor Leagues I play the following...
AAA: 110 games AA: 120 games A: 130 games My Minor Leagues play more game than the Majors, so that the minor-league players can get experience faster - any yes I agree with BruceM who stated... "I stick with 162 simply because of the "Accomplishments". I also have been asking for Customizeable Accomplishments for a number of years." I also have been asking for Customizeable Accomplishments for a number of years! (Sigh)

I use basically the same rough outline every time i do a fictional league and the teams and what not always mirrors the MLB's history somewhat.
1890 - 16 teams, 100 games, 21 man roster 1905 - 120 games 1910 - 128 games 1920 - 150 games 1925 - 23 man roster 1930 - 162 games 1955 - 25 man roster 1960 - 20 teams 1970 - 24 teams 1980 - 26 teams 1990 - 28 teams 2000 - 30 teams 2020 - 32 teams (Usually when I bring in the Twins and Orioles. the Browns and Senators stick around always and the Expos stay in Montreal.) |

I like to have 7 game seasons so that way every season is like a World Series.

150 games. It's close enough to MLB for my liking and it's a round number.

I'm very strange
123 games. That way you're either above .500 or below it, there is no in between. Fictional league (Canadian Baseball League) 4 divisions of 4 teams split into two leagues. Play each non division team 7 times to get a meaningful won-loss record and the teams in your own division 13 times. AFAIK, I'm the only weirdo to do anything like this, and I am also the bane of LGO's existence.

For my main league, the Continental League, I've done varying lengths in the past, but settled in at 162 games around the time of the last expansion (to 20 teams) in 1995. Worked out ok with four five-team divisions, two conferences, and limited/no out of conference play.
But prior to the 2009 season I realigned to one 20-team league with no divisions, no conferences, and a balanced schedule. That means the only options for schedule length were multiples of 19. So 152 or 171 games. I picked 171. I generally watch most of my team's games, with one game day equalling one calendar day. So no big problems with trying to fit in a bunch of seasons. The CBL has been around 22 years, and I've played 22 seasons.

No wildcards anymore. No interleague. No DH. Weighted schedule, so you play your divisional opponents the majority of the time. The way it should be.
