Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-1, 5.59 ERA) picked up his first win of the season last night, and it was a great game. Matsuzaka shut the Balitmore Orioles out, going the distance and only giving up 2 hits and walking 2.

----------

The first major transaction of the season has happened. The Boston Red Sox placed Brad Penny (0-0, 16.21) on the waiver wire after one very bad start. The Seattle Mariners decided that he was worth the one year, five million dollar risk and picked Penny up.

The Padres also sent cash to Oakland to help pay for Hairston's contract.

Rickie Weeks (.236, 1 HR, 2 RBI) of the Milwaukee Brewers became the first Major League player this season to hit for the cycle. He did so against the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies.

----------

There have been questions the last couple of seasons if Andy Pettitte (1-2, 4.58 ERA) would stay with the Yankees when his series of one year contracts were up. Those questions were answered today when the Yankees announced that Pettitte has signed a three year extension with the team worth $8.3 million.

----------

Padres Get

Kelly Shoppach and Tim Fedroff

Indians Get

Cla Meredith

The Padres seem like they aren't going to accept the fact that people think they will finish in last place this season. Word got out that Indians catcher Kelly Shoppach (.250, 0 HR, 0 RBI) wanted out of Cleveland so he could get playing time. The Padres pounced sending reliever Cla Meredith (1-0, 1.29) to the Indians for Shoppach. The Padres also receive minor leaguer Tim Fedroff (.229, 2 HR, 6 RBI in Single A).

April 25, 2009 - Robinson Cano (.413, 3 HR, 11 RBI) has been having a very good year, and last night he had a very good night. As the Yankees and Red Sox squared off in the most storied rivalry in baseball Cano went a perfect 5-5 with 3 RBI's to help the Yankees to the win.

----------

Jamey Wright (0-0, 0.00) faced only one batter in his first start of the 2009 season before he was injured. Well Wright's sore elbow has healed and he is ready to return to the rotation. The Royals have called him up to the big team and he will take Sidney Ponson's (0-1, 5.06) spot on the team and in the rotation. Ponson was placed on waivers and designated for assignment, and the Royals hope he will accept a minor league demotion, if not the team is prepared to cut him loose. Wright will make his first start after being called up tonight against the Tigers.

April 26, 2009 - Ryan Braun (.338, 2 HR, 8 RBI) is continuing the great start to his young career in Milwaukee. He had the best game of his season so far as he had a five hit day in a Brewers victory over the Astros last night.

----------

The Seattle Mariners suffered a big loss when outfielder Franklin Gutierrez (.254, 3 HR, 12 RBI) went down with a torn labrum last night. Gutierrez is expected to miss around 6 months. Look for the Mariners to play Ichiro in center field now and Ken Griffey Jr. in right field.
