April 17, 2009 - The Cardinals were once again bit by the injury bug this season as their starting third baseman David Freese (.233, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 1 1/2* Rating) has strained his triceps, and he is expected to miss about a month of time. The Cardinals have place him on the disabled list, and called third baseman Brian Barden (.111, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1/2* Rating) back up to the majors. Joe Thurston is expected to take over the starting third base job against righties while Barden will start against lefties.

April 18, 2009 - The Detroit Tigers were dealt a major blow today as their ace pitcher, Justin Verlander (1-1, 3.24 ERA) was informed that he has a torn rotator cuff and will miss 14 months of action. This is a huge blow to the Tigers, expect them to go out and try to get a frontline pitcher to try to stay in the race.

----------

The Chicago Cubs were also told that they would lose a pitcher for the rest of the season and part of next year possibly. Their star young closer Carlos Marmol (3 SV, 2.45 ERA) has severe elbow ligament damage and will have to have surgery to repair it. He is expected to be out 13-14 months. Kevin Gregg is expected to take over the closers role.

----------

Phillies rookie pitcher J.A. Happ (1-1, 3.63 ERA) put together a very nice game last night, as he was able to throw a complete game, while only giving up 5 hits, and striking out 15 batters. Happ hopes to build on this first win of the season and make a run at the rookie of the year award.

April 19, 2009 - The injuries just keep rolling for the St. Louis Cardinals. One of their brightest spots of the season was the play of rookie center fielder Colby Rasmus (.388, 2 HR, 8 RBI). Rasmus was playing a ball in center at a rainy Wrigley Field when he twisted his knee and went to the turf. The result is a torn meniscus, and he will be out for 2-3 months. The Cardinals hope to have him back around or before the All-Star break.

With the injury to Rasmus, the Cardinals have called up outfielder Nick Stavinoha. Stavinoha is no stranger to the team, he has been in the majors on and off for a couple of seasons now. He is expected to be the backup left fielder, while Brian Barton will back up center and right. Chris Duncan will be put in the starting lineup in left field, Rick Ankiel will move over to center, and Ryan Ludwick will go to right field.

----------

Code:
                               R H E
St. Louis Cardinals (8-6) 4 8 0
Chicago Cubs (10-2) 8 12 0

W: Sean Marshall (1-0) L: Kyle Lohse (0-1) S: Kevin Gregg (1)
St. Louis Cardinals Stats

Ryan Ludwick: 2-4, 2 RBI (.367, 2 HR, 18 RBI)
Kyle Lohse: 5 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, L (0-1, 7.63 ERA)

2B: Pujols (4)
RBI: Ludwick 2 (18), Duncan (9), Lohse (1)

Chicago Cubs Stats

Alfonso Soriano: 2-4, HR, 4 RBI, R (.340, 5 HR, 21 RBI)
Sean Marshall: 7.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, W (1-0, 4.70 ERA)

2B: Gregg (1), Fontenot (6), Theriot (2), Hoffpauir (4)

April 20, 2009 - FIGHT! The benches cleared between the Rockies and the Dodgers last night, and it was a straight brawl between Brad Hawpe (.132, 0 HR, 4 RBI) and James McDonald (1-0, 7.71 ERA). McDonald buzzed a fastball by the head of Hawpe, which the Rockies outfielder took exception to, so after a few words Hawpe charged the mound. He used a quality takedown to get McDonald to the ground where the men traded a few good shots. The commissioner's office wasted no time and has suspended each player for seven games.

----------

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost a much bigger piece to their puzzle last night when Manny Ramirez (.224, 3 HR, 9 RBI) went down with a partially torn labrum. Ramirez, who is one of the better hitters in Major League Baseball will be forced to miss 4 months of action, which could hurt the Dodgers very badly. Manny's big bat will likely be replaced by speedster Juan Pierre.

----------

The Oakland A's got some good pitching last night as Dana Eveland (1-1, 7.07 ERA) threw a complete game shutout against the Toronto Blue Jays. Eveland only allowed five hits through the whole game and gives Oakland a shimmer of hope in what could be a tough season according to many sports writers.

----------

Mets Get:

2B Willie Harris
LF Derrick Phillips

Nationals Get:

SP Mike Pelfrey
SP Mike Antonini

There was a trade inside the NL East tonight as the Washington Nationals sent utility man Willie Harris (.154, 1 HR, 4 RBI) and minor league LF Derrick Phillips (1/2* potential) to the New York Mets. The Nationals get in return SP Mike Pelfrey (1-0, 1.88 ERA) and minor league SP Mike Antonini (1* potential). The move gives the Nationals a much needed arm in the rotation, and the Mets get somebody who can play multiple positions in case any of their star players are injured and he gives them a great bat off the bench.

----------

Pirates Get:

RF Ken Griffey Jr.
Cash

Mariners Get:

LF Brandon Moss

The Pittsburgh Pirates landed one of the greatest players to ever play the game today, RF Ken Griffey Jr. (.262, 2 HR, 3 RBI) Griffey is slowed considerably by age, but he will bring crowds into PNC Park every night. The Pirates also gained cash in this deal that sent LF Brandon Moss (.250, 2 HR, 10 RBI) to the Mariners. Moss is expected to start in the outfield and at DH for the Mariners, and Griffey will get considerable playing time in Pittsburgh's outfield.

As you have probably noticed, the trades and injuries are getting out of hand in this dynasty. I went around the OOTP forums and read a bunch of people's opinions on things and how to make them better, and I found some settings that make this game play much more realistically. So I'm going to start one up with the Kansas City Royals today. That'll give me more of a challenge, and the game will play much more realistically this time around.

I enjoyed how you constructed your threads.

Seeing as how I live about 20 miles from you, I would love to see you re-start the Cards dynasty!

Thanks, and now that I know what to expect with an OOTP dynasty they should get cleaner and better next go around. I'm from about half an hour away from St. Louis, but I'm going to college at SEMO down in Cape right now. What area are you from?

Can you post these settings? Thinking about starting a new solo dynasty that is more realistic than some of mine have been in the past.

Cool, I'm from Jefferson County. My girlfriend lives in St. Charles and we took a drive out 94 through Warren county this week. Well thanks for following this one, my Royals one is already up, I hope everybody enjoys that one, it should be a lot better and be able to go the distance.
