In part, that's how we arrived at the version of the game we have today.

It is a perfectly valid argument that you have too many blinders on to see.

I don't have to defend the position that "releasing this tool to the public would lead to much better rosters," because it's obviously true by inspection.

Your bogus claim that it would not do so, on the other hand, is indefensible. This community, working together, can do amazing things, and it does work together when doing so is in the community's best interest. Remember Catobase?

And I remember that almost all of those people have been run over and ended up as roadkill.

Or ended up beta testers.

How convenient. Lose the argument and bolt.

Why do you have so little faith in the demonstrated abilities of the OOTP community? I just don't get that.

Wow, a lot of poo here. I think the vocal minority are what's killing the game. Releasing this has no real purpose and I can see it being of little value to about 95-99% of people. Granted, there would be a few people that could probably do amazing things, but just not worth it.

If one person does something amazing, then we all get something.....

That's like saying, "There's only one or two guys who could cure cancer with this thing; most people will have no use for it. No sense in releasing it".

Well yes, but there are one or two who argue (vocally) that that's a bad thing.

Yes. It's also saying "we don't believe that in the entire OOTP community there is one single person or any group of people who could make this tool work," which is really insulting.

Well, if you'd like to put words into my mouth, far be it from me to argue. This is not cancer, and there are definitely people capable of maybe doing something for the leeches to suck on for a while. You don't have to resort to stupidity and hyperbole to make a point.

What exactly is it you'd like with this? What would YOU want to do, other than wait to see what others can do with it?

I didn't mean to be insulting, I'm sorry. I don't really give a hoot about the editor, it's just that your argument didn't make sense....

Unless you can do mass edits with this thing....

If so, then I'd be one of the ones to try to cure cancer....

Eh? I mean, at first glance I thought the tool looked pretty great - but what's the value for 99% of the base? There's nothing in there that the average user is going to be able to take advantage of. Even installing a pre-package web application isn't exactly easy for a vast majority of the users. Furthermore, there's no advantage to the web based interface (though the track changes concept is rad).

I'm not piling on, but BMW made a pretty good point -- most of which I agree with -- and you came back with pop-reference laced one-liners. That's not called winning the argument -- that's claiming victory when you don't bother to engage in meaningful conversation in the first place.

Finally, I can see this tool hosted on the OOTP servers as a collaborative roster builder. That's it's real value -- giving (authenticated) users the ability to go in and modify the default OOTP base set, or have project managers create a new set. I think it could be rad -- but I don't think it's something that requires the web app be released to the public.

Looking at those screenshots again, I kind of wish there was a similar tool for creating and setting up leagues. It'd seem easier to use than drilling through all of OOTP's various menus and screens to create a particular baseball universe.

The same can be said for the various map creation and editing tools shipped with first-person-shooter PC games. But such tools are released anyway.

That was in my initial proposal a year ago. My problem is that I made about 30 proposals, and there were a few other people chiming in with good ideas too.
