I'm with you here. I have started with an expansion team each time - crappy at the start of year one. Over .500 year two and by year 3 I am, at the very least, vying for the pennant, if not winning the World Series. After a couple of years of this, I am starting to get bored.

Fortunately (actually unfortunately ) My database tends to get corrupted sometime between years 5-8, so I'm wiped out before I play 10 years. If I ever get to 1969, I will manage a new expansion team - likely the Expos or Padres.

When my work schedules got hectic, I had a hard time keeping up with with the export schedules and really doing with my team what needed to be done. I also found that most of the leagues weren't quite tinkered to the way I like them. Overall the loss of the immersion factor was what really kept me from enjoying online play as much.

I've used OOTP 2, 5 and 2009, and using mainly fictional leagues, I can usually build a contending franchise after a few seasons. How I do it I usually try to dump off most of the higher paid players, amassing as many mid-upper level prospects as I can, then trading for some young, cheap players, seeing if I can steal a upper level prospect or 2. (I find that the computer values relievers a bit higher then I do) After a couple seasons, I usually have enough in the bank to spring for a good free agent or 2, which usually gives me a fair shot at a playoff spot without mortgaging my future too much.
