You can't just take the current standings and rearrange them into different divisions. The standings as they exist at present are a product of the specific schedule created for that divisional structure.

A different divisional structure would mean a different schedule. The only time you can rearrange a league's standings without regard to the schedule is if the league uses a balanced schedule. With a balanced schedule, divisional structure is irrelevant.

The Yankees do not deserve to make the playoffs, the only reason their record is above the Twins or White Sox is because they're 9-1 in the last 10 games. I might be a little bias but I think the Yankees don't deserve a playoff spot and divisional races are making for a good race in the AL Central.

You obviously are biased. If you would honestly look at how the Twins and White Sox are ending this season, you would be as appaled as I am about one of them making the playoffs over a better team. Right now neither team has to win another game for the Twins to make it.

Looking at teams' overall records with divisionally-weighted scheduling is kinda stupid. People like to say "man, a team that's 81-81 can make the playoffs while a team that's 98-64 sits at home", but it's quite possible that the team that's 81-81 was better because of strength of schedule.

I would think that no matter how you look at it, the AL East is much better than the AL Central. If we are going to give credit for strength of schedule, I am sure the Yankees win.
