Also, try turning off Norton while running the game. Virus software running in the background can cause problems with ANY game, not just OOTP. I've had problems with Norton and Mcafee. I use AVG now, and don't have any problems except having to tell AVG that OOTP isn't a virus. Try these suggestions so we can rule them out.
I downloaded the entire game when the latest patch was released. I did double-check that the new version number appears on the splash screen.

I guess I'll try to disable Norton, which I hate to do. The only other game where this was a factor (for me) was an NCAA basketball sim, which had tons of bugs. Norton was never an issue for the last OOTPBB, at least for me.

What do you know about Adam Dunn?

Do you know he doesn't really have a passion for the game that much? That he doesn't really even like baseball?

/end useless contribution to thread that only Jays/Reds fans will get.

I was getting a lot of crashes before I patched, but haven't got any since. What other programs do you have running in the background? If you have anything, try closing them one at a time and see if the problem continues.

I appreciate any help/suggestions, but emphatically stating that it must be something wrong with my system doesn't really pass muster - not that you were the the OP expressing that sentiment.

Either my system is only doing something "wrong" for this one game out of the hundreds of other games and applications I have used (including prior versions of OOTPBB) or I do have a legitimate reason for being disgusted with the crashes.
I agree it is happening to to many people to just be a few of us. There is a post going in tech for this right this instant. I would rather see Markus fix all these annoying bugs that have been around year after year. What is the sense of playing a game if you have to back it up everytime you play it. And how can you manage players when the computer keeps changing your lineups.
I love this game to pieces but sometimes it makes you wonder. I also have many games of my computer and they work fine.

If you go to the tech support forum, you'll see alot of people are having crashes. Most the time, it happens when you click on "Save Game" or when you exit the game.

It's not just his computer config. (Unless we all somehow have the same computer.)

Where is Brandon Phillips BTW?
I traded him away for some prospects because he wasn't doing so well in the sim and the team was doing even worse.

BTW, I haven't heard anything from Markus in a while here in the forums. Did I miss it or is he away somewhere? I'd like him to say a few words about this save game crash issue.

I have run this game with Symatec doing a virus chech in the background with NO problems what so ever. The problem I am having is when I shut the game down. I get the sorry we have to close message. And like I said most of the time you reload and everything is fine. But every so often it corrupts the files and the game won't reload. I know the work a round for the Dat faces but there no work a round for this. And i will state again that this is an OLD problem that Markus has had trouble recreating. I understand how hard it must be but that's just not good enough.

I've never had any crash problems with OOTP *knock on wood*. The only issue I had was with my World Cup league, which crashes everytime I try to human manage and make an in-game subsitution. But I think that's more me trying to do something the game can't handle rather than the game having a bug.

It does stink that some people are having these problems...I know I'd stop playing the game if it kept crashing.

No, you're thinking of Joe Buck. Adam Dunn played Batman in the television series.

That hasn't happened to me. Although the game crashes quite a bit, so far it has not corrupted my file (I can reload the last saved file).

Also, the crash frequency has decreased with the patches, but it's still far too frequent. The main issue I'm having is after playing out a game, exiting game fine, the game crashes when I try to complete the day. HUGE annoyance, especially after having a guy drive in nine RBI, but why beat a dead donkey, right ...

Sorry guys, I'm out of ideas. Hopefully tech support can come up with a solution.

I would opine that this is the very essence of a bug. The game was specifically made to be customizable and for the human manager to play out games. If it crashes doing what it was programmed to do, its a bug.

My game crashes when I play out an entire game and try to exit it; it doesnt crash when I sim to the 9th inning and play that out. I also played out the 1st season with no crashes that I can remember. OOTP 9 has had a history of season beginning crashes. I cant see how anything on my new computer or any program I could be running in the background could facilitate these crashes.

This is how I play the game. If anyone else plays it is a similar way and also has crash problems, maybe we can help pinpoint what is causing the problem.

2 Leagues/4 divisions of 7 teams apiece
4 levels of minors
All inti summer leagues
College and HS feeders
162 gane schedules

I play out all my teams games in one pitch mode

This quote is kind of ironic isn't it?

Out of interest, those of you who are having problems leaving a game you've managed, can you turn off 'save replays' (set it to none) and see if the same thing still happens?

Already set to off.

There was a similar crash bug that was fixed for 9.1.12. Perhaps its related to that? I have a feeling the cause of the crashes is quite narrow.
