I have the DVD of the original tournament. I thought I'd give this a similar, yet more modern flavor. If I'm not mistaken, I think the game was originally developed/inspired from the 1970's tournament.

Sonny Liston vs. John Ruiz
LISTON KO10
(Sonny Liston and John Ruiz put on an entertaining show for the first 6 rounds. Liston hurts Ruiz several times, but Ruiz escapes and manages to give a respectable account of himself in the process. Ruiz starts showing damage in the 7th when his left eye begins to swell. Ruiz seems to be running out of gas in the 8th and begins holding. The crowd boos and jeers accordingly. Liston deposit Ruiz to his hands and knees with a huge right to the head in the 9th. Ruiz, complains about something to referee Frank Shain. He’s up on his feet at 8 and the fight is allowed to continue. Moments later, a frightening left hook to the body deflates Ruiz in ring center where he’s counted out. Afterward, Ruiz says his ankle, was injured or he could have beaten the count. No one believes him.)

Frazier comes out smoking and floors Seldon with a left hook moments into the first for the count of 6. Seldon rises and gamely fires back. Seldon takes a licking and stops ticking 2:53 into the first round.

Evander Holyfield vs. Tony Tubbs
HOLYFIELD KO6
Holyfield produces a fantastic performance as he outboxes and outpunches Tony Tubbs from the opening bell. A sharp combination drops Tubbs for the count of 5 in round 6. Tubbs rises but goes down for the full count after absorbing several finishing punches to the chin and temple. Overall, a very impressive performance from “The Real Deal!”

James Jeffries vs. Hasim Rahman
JEFFRIES KO7
(Jeffries and Rahman take turns turning on another into human heavy bags in the first and second rounds. What follows is one of the most entertaining fights of the first round. Jeffries finally clubs Rahman to the floor in the 5th. Rahman rights himself at six only to take a beating that has the referee on the verge of stopping the fight. More of the same in the 6th. Finally, Jeffries closes the show with a vicious combination that puts Rahman on the floor a second and final time. And that, was all she wrote. They could have counted to 100)

(Corbett and Bruno engage in a thrilling fight. Bruno uses his superior size and power advantages against Corbett while Corbett capitalizes on his speed, boxing skill and defensive ability. Bruno goes down from several, fast, rapid-fire combinations from Corbett in the 10th. Both fighters are beat up by the final bell. Bruno by the volume of punches absorbed from Corbett. Corbett, by the big power shots of Frank Bruno. The fight goes to the scorecards)

143-141, Corbett, 142-142 even, 143-142 Corbett (The knockdown in the 10th secures Corbett’s victory)

Bowe and Douglas both show up in great shape, motivated and ready to rumble. Both fighters light up the ring with fireworks at the opening bell. The give and take is even through the 4th. In the 5th, Bowe’s left eye begins to swell. Bowe fights on, rocking Douglas with big shots and being equally staggered in return by Douglas. Mills Lane finally halts proceedings in the 9th when Bowe’s left eye is completely swelled shut! This is the first upset in the tournament. The scoring at the time of the stoppage – 77-75 Douglas, 77-75 Bowe, 77-75 Bowe.

This fight was a see-saw battle all the way. One moment it looked like Douglas was ready to go. Then, the next moment, it looked like Bowe was about to collapse. I was even eating popcorn as it was unfolding.

I can imagine an interviewer like Larry Merchant saying that to Douglas after the fight. To which Douglas would say, "Larry, tonight was my redemption. I just beat the man who beat Holyfield twice. Now, the whole world's gonna see the Buster Douglas they missed the first time around."

Lennox Lewis vs. Nikolay Valuev
LEWIS TKO14 (cuts)
(Lewis has his hands full with the giant, Nikolay Valuev. The Russian Giant uses the jab effectively and tries maul Lewis in close. Valuev repeated warned by Mickey Vann for using shoulders and elbows is deducted point in the 6th. Lewis starts swelling around both eyes in the 7th and Valuev faces is leaking from multiple lacerations above and below both eyes. Nikolay Valuev is dropped to one knee in the 11th for a 1 count after taking two big right hands from Lewis. Both fighters looking the worse for the wear by the 12th. The fight is finally stopped midway through the 14th round with Valuev looking as though he attempted passing his face through a meat grinder.

Wlad Klitschko vs. Ruslan Chagaev
CHAGAEV TKO5 (This fight was the second upset in the tournament)
Chagaev moves forward from the opening bell, putting pressure on Klitschko. Klit’s jab, however, dominates the action and Chagaev seems to be a step behind in rounds 1 through 4. Chagaev right eye is swelling as the round 5 begins. About midway through the 5th, Ruslan Chagaev explodes a huge right hand off the side of Kitschko’s head and Klitschko sags into the ropes. Chagaev goes for broke and referee Frank Cappuccino saves Wlad Klitschko who was no longer defending himself at 2:58 of round 5.

An entertaining fight from the opening bell! Charles uses speed, combination punching and movement to soften Brewster up for a late rounds assault. Lamon Brewster uses his natural size, strength and power advantages to end matters before the championship rounds arrive. A Charles combination opens a gushing red geyser – giving him two eyebrows over his right eye. They almost have to staple the cut closed between rounds. An Ezzard Charles hook reopens the gusher in the 9th and the fight is stopped.

Walcott and Dokes engage in a very fast paced chess match for 15 rounds. Walcott’s awkward style and footwork keep Dokes from pressing any advantages he may have in size and weight. And Walcott’s power is good enough to keep Dokes honest. Dokes enters the 15th round with a lump beneath the right eye. Walcott is unmarked.
