In the PDF file describing the in-season exhibition game list, it's mentioned that only such exhibition games that took place during the season were counted. Post-season exhibitions, such as the city series which took place, are not covered.

I think there was a book published awhile back (or was going to be published) which covered all those post-season major league exhibition games such as the city series.

My idea of an exhibition game is not one that is in a league. It's simply picking two teams (from Lahman) and playing them against each other. Typically playing the game out pbp with the human managing one and the computer the other. Just an easy way to play maybe the 76 Reds against the 63 Dodgers. Something simple. Click the Exhibition Button, click which two teams, couple of necessary options and off to the ballpark.
