Just came to think about a funny story I read in a swedish newspaper ome years ago.
The story was about an english fellow that had a really hard time letting go of his former girlfriend. He wouldn't let her alone and he talked all kinds of smack about her new boyfriend. He even proposed a fight between the two to decide who would have "the rights" to see the girls. His former girlfriend than told him that her new boyfriend was none other than reigning boxing champ Joe Calzaghe. The poorminded man pretty much let her go and cancelled all plans of a fight that very moment

Finally, the fight Kessler and his camp have been pushing for for some time now comes to reality. No disrespect to Calzaghe, but Kessler stops him late IMO.
I feel Kessler has a slight edge being younger, stronger, sharper and obviously has no lack of confidence taking the fight in the U.K. when he very well could have fought just about anyone else in Denmark, or even here in the states on HBO. Once again, this is just my opinion which won't even get you a bus pass , just based on what I've seen from both fighters. There is no final deal with HBO from what I understand but negotiations were underway as both camps want the fights shown in the U.S., especially because both fighters are looking to move their careers here. A huge money fight, last I read 16,000 seats were sold in less than a day. The U.K. fans love their boxing. I'm a huge fan of Kessler's, and hope he can pull out a convincing win and move on to bigger and better things against quality opposition. No way this is a dull one, I can't wait. |

Article on the Sportinglife website
Frank Warren is confident Joe Calzaghe's unification superfight against Mikkel Kessler will set a new world attendance record for an indoor boxing event.
The Millennium Stadium will host the showdown on November 3 with 70,000 tickets available, of which 17,500 have already been sold even though the fight was only confirmed last Wednesday. Muhammad Ali's rematch against Leon Spinks holds the record with 63,500 descending on the Louisiana Superdome in 1978 to watch 'The Greatest' win the world heavyweight title for a third time. Promoter Warren said: "Getting Joe and Mikkel together is very expensive. "Kessler's people wanted the fight in Copenhagen but ultimately money swung it to be held over here. It's always about the money! "The fact it's happening in Cardiff is a great bonus and we have a major record to break. "The record for an indoor gate in the sport is 63,500 and I think we'll have more than that at the Millennium Stadium on November 3. "If that happens it will be the world's biggest indoor boxing event. "That's what we're aiming for. We've already sold 17,500 tickets which is a tremendous response. Only the Mike Tyson fight sold tickets quicker. "There should be around 5,000 of Kessler's fans coming over from Denmark. They'll be arriving in their long boats and hopefully they'll be returning with long boats!" Kessler is arguably Calzaghe's greatest challenge to date with the 28-year-old WBC and WBA super-middleweight champion unbeaten in 39 fights. But Warren believes the Dane will bring the best out of Calzaghe, whose WBO belt and unblemished record will also be on the line in Cardiff. "When Joe really wants a fight, it has brought the best out of him," he said. "There have been a few fights like Chris Eubank, Jeff Lacy, Charles Brewer and Byron Mitchell that Joe was really up for. "Joe has too much for Kessler. It's a tough fight but Joe is at the top of his game at the moment and is a very hard fighter to beat. "He has a great chin, can punch and has tremendous hand speed." |

Agree with Zima here ... Kessler would have to nearly pitch a shutout to get the decision so he is going to have to KO Joe.
Another thing is that HBO still hasn't signed off on this and as far as I know I have seen nothing from Kessler's camp on this. I wouldn't be surprised to see Calzaghe-Hopkins or Calzaghe-Taylor before we see this fight. |

Okay if the fight comes off ... still expecting Calzaghe to come up with a broken hand this week LOL ... if Kessler wins can we please not use the Joe was post-prime excuse?
Joe's fanboys are already starting to throw this excuse out over on Eastside boxing. |

LOL ... well I can't do that. I just found it funny that the fight still hasn't happened and Joe fans are making excuses in case they lose. Not here on this board though.

Have to go with Joe C on this one (though I'm not that big a fan of his). I see Joe C by clear Dec or late TKO....

I think it is too close to call .. One thing I do know is Kessler will need to win 9 rounds to eek out a close split decision in Joe's backyard.

I'll take Kessler by a late round TKO perhaps the 9th or 10th round, and I agree with the above Juan Manuel Marquez prediction.

paranoia
what is it with you guys kessler would have to box a shut out to get the verdict..... i have been following boxing here for near on 30 years our boxing board and fairness should not be questioned. germany and italy is another matter , what about some of the decisions to come out of vegas in the last couple of years moseley beat delahoya , i dont think so ...... delahoya beat strum idont think so . money talks , yet i cant think of a bad decision over here of the top of my head. tut tut or is that used as an excuse for your guys getting beat?
any way it wont matter tommorow cos kessler is going to get knocked out and there aint no ref or judge that can influence that. |

I'm calling for a TKO win for Calzaghe. Kessler will attempt to sing his national anthem, will mangle the words and get cold-conked by the fat lady from row 3 aisle 9.
...or Joe wins a decision or even a late round TKO. Cap (last fight I called correctly was Sharkey-Ruhlin 1)

For the record Azza I said the same thing when Floyd fought ODLH ... and I was right, Floyd won 9 rounds and barely got the decision.
I stick by the prediction that Kessler will have to completely dominate the fight in order to get a close decision. If Kessler wins 7 rounds, Calzaghe will win by 2 or 3 on all cards. Even though two of the judges are from the states, they were hand picked by Warren. Not to mention judges are too often influenced by the crowd. I'm rooting for Kessler because he is more likely to come to the states, but I've learned my lesson on picking against Calzaghe. My official prediction is --- too close to call. |
