UK/USA Challenge
Negotiations are under way for a series of fights that will take place in both the United Kingdom and United States. Each country will have 6-8 fighters at both venues. Our insiders have seen a list of fighters that the British Boxing Commission is overseeing. Here is what we have:
Jem Mace 8-2-0 (4) Audley Harrison 14-3-0 (12) David Haye 10-2-0 (10) Herbie Hide 6-2-1 (6) Terry Kellar 12-4-0 (10) Bob Fitzsimmons 15-1-0 (15) Don Cockell 9-2-0 (2) Bruce Woodcock 15-2-0 (15) Alex Stewart 15-4-0 (15) Tom Allen 13-5-3 (8) Lennox Lewis 13-1-0 (10) Jack London 10-4-1 (8) Gary Mason 15-4-0 (13) Noel McCormick 12-3-0 (11) Frank Rylands 13-2-0 (5) Joe Bugner 13-1-0 (11) Bill Chase 12-3-0 (8) Jack Clansey 13-2-0 (10) Henry Akinwande 7-4-0 (4) Joe Beckett 10-4-1 (8) Frank Bruno 15-4-0 (15) Sir Henry Cooper 18-3-0 (15) Tommy Farr 12-3-0 (5) Jack Gardner 15-3-0 (14) Willie Duncan 9-1-0 (9) Phil Scott 9-3-0 (6) Matt Skelton 5-0-0 (4) The final decision hasn't been made public but there is speculation that some hot, young prospects may fill out the list. Three notable fighters include, Maurice Hope, Lloyd Honeyghan and the most anticipated of all, Joe Calzaghe. Calzaghe destroyed his competition in the amateurs and the U.K. masses are eagerly waiting for his public professional heavyweight debut. The pressure may be too much for the Commission to leave off young Calzaghe (4-0-0 4KO professionally). Last edited by btown32; 05-24-2007 at 07:18 AM. |

HBO: Boxing After Dark
Chris Arreola 9-5-1 (6) vs. Malcolm Tann 6-5-0 (4)
Last minute replacement, Malcolm Tann surprisingly takes the 1st two rounds and taunts Arreola at the end of each round. Tann yells at Arreola and tells him “Come on, I’ve taken your best shot!” Tann continues to completely dominant all aspects of the fight. We have Tann winning by a good margin entering the 6th. In an unbelievable development, the referee stops the fight due to low blow fouls and Tann losses by (DQ6). Tann was ahead on all cards at the time of the disqualification. “Fast” Eddie Chambers 8-4-2 (3) vs. Dominick Guinn 9-3-1 (7) Guinn was a highly regarded boxer when he entered the professional ranks but hasn’t quite realized his potential. Chambers is off to an inconsistent pro career and would like to have a statement-type of fight that might propel him towards bigger fights and paydays. So far, Guinn has used his size and weight advantage by leaning on Chambers and forcing him to fight off the ropes. Guinn lands the better blows on the inside and keeps the distance with his jab. Chambers doesn’t seem to be able to get within hitting distance in the first three rounds. Rounds 4 and 5 have seen Guinn revert back to the bad habits of not working that we have seen in his last few fights. Forget what I just said! The Southern Disaster just unleashes a barrage of punches and flattens Chambers with 32 seconds remaining in the 6th. Guinn wins in exciting fashion (KO6). EBU Championship
EBU Title Fight @ Forum, Russia
Champion Vitali Klitschko, Ukraine 14-2-0 (13) vs. #16 Max Schmeling, Germany 20-4-1 (18) Both fighters come into the ring confident and in excellent shape. The champion doesn’t land any significant punches in round one and may be a little rusty from the six month layoff. Schmeling is beating the champ to the punch and is effortlessly moving around the ring after landing blows to both the body and head. Schmeling takes the 1st two rounds. Vitali finally lets his hands go and we have a slugfest in round 4. The challenger still lands more consistently and the champ seems to be a little wobbly at the end of the round. Klitschko lands a nice cross and has a nice round even though Schmeling tries to rally in the last ten seconds to steal round five. Max lands punch after punch with no response from the defending champ. Round 6 to Schmeiling. Vitali is hurt in round 7 and has swelling to his right eye. We have the challenger winning by a decent margin right now and Max doesn’t seem to be getting tired. Vitali’s punches don’t seem to have any steam on them as we enter the 10th. Schmeling lands a hard three punch combo and drops the champ at the 1:00 mark of the 10th. Klitschko is hurt and in bad shape. The ref is closely watching. Down goes Klitschko for the 2nd time after a perfect uppercut. The champ gets up at the count of 3 but is unable to respond to Referee Santiago. The fight has been stopped. Winner and new EBU Champion is Max Schmeling by (TKO10). Schmeling lands 50.6% to 28.9%. Cards at time of stoppage 88-84, 88-84, 87-85 all for Schmeling. IBF Championship
IBF Title Fight @ Madison Square Garden, New York, USA
Champion Rocky Marciano, USA 19-2-0 (19) vs. #10 Gene Tunney, USA 16-2-0 (9) Marciano looks to avenge a prior loss to Tunney. Both fighters are in excellent shape. Tunney lands a hard cross and out punches Marciano 26-14 in the 1st. Marciano is having a tough time trying to cut off the ring and Tunney lands more blows again, 2 rounds for Tunney. Neither fighter seems to want to mix it up in the third, we have Tunney taking ahead 30-27. Marciano seems a bit frustrated but does land a few good combos to win the 4th. I can see why Marciano lost the first fight. They say that styles make fights and Tunney’s style seems to be a challenge that the champ may not overcome. The ref warns the challenger for holding but Tunney takes another round from the champ with punches to start and end the round. The Brockton Blockbuster looks like a dud so far in this fight. The champ doesn’t land a single punch in the 6th and his corner is working to reduce some swelling by his eyes. Goldman is trying to inspire his fighter between rounds but it hasn’t worked so far for the champ. The frustration seems to have come to a climax as a point is taken from Marciano for a low blow in the 7th. That is too bad, because the 7th was the first round that Marciano seems to have won in my opinion. It looks like a sense of urgency has finally slapped Rocky in the face as he lands a hook followed by a smashing cross that staggers The Fighting Marine back into the ropes. The 9th is by far the most exciting round as both fighters exchange blows. Even round, Tunney ahead in fight. The champ lands a beautiful combination followed by a right hook that shakes Tunney. Rocky’s best round so far, as it looks as though his corner may have told him that he needs a KO to win the fight. Another round for the Rock, it seems he is getting stronger as the fight enters the “Championship Rounds.” Marciano scores 27 pts to 6, landing punch after punch. Both fighters have swelling around their eyes. Marciano is definitely closing the gap as we have him winning the last few rounds. Tunney takes the 13th 11-2, as the champ seems tired and takes the round off. Two rounds left and the champ needs to make something happen to keep the belt. Marciano lands a tremendous right hook that has Tunney stumbling backwards. The challenger survives the 14th. We believe that Tunney is ahead and Marciano may need a KO to win the fight. Tunney gets off first with a straight right, Rocky lands a cross as Tunney misses an uppercut, Rock lands a huge uppercut that staggers Tunney with 1:46 left in the round, another cross with :53 seconds left, and the bell sounds. We will have to go to the cards. 143-141, 142-142, 143-141, winner by majority decision (MDec15) and still IBF Champ, The Brockton Blockbuster, Rocky Marciano. Both judges who favored the champ had him winning all but one round from 8-15. The cards reflected our opinion at the beginning of the fight with Tunney winning five out of the first six on two cards and five out of seven on the third. Marciano’s hard training and conditioning regimen allowed him to get stronger in the later rounds. Marciano-Tunney III definitely looks like a possibility. Questions about the champ...
News out of the boxing world centers around the inactivity of WBA Champion Chuck Norton. Norton has been a fan favorite in the past because he chose to fight so frequently and always against top flight competition. People are starting to question his focus and desire because he hasn’t entered the ring since April for his title defense against Teofilo Stevenson in Cuba.
In other news, USA Boxing representatives tell us that they will have a qualifying round to determine who will take the spots available for the UK/USA challenge. |

WBA Champion, Chuck "No Doubt" Norton has proposed a bout scheduled for Thanksgiving Day. "I feel it is necessary to give thanks and to show gratitude to our great country. I am willing to give a boxer, chosen by the public, a chance at the greatest championship title in the world." Polls are open now. The leading candidate for the Thanksgiving bout is Ken Norton. People are welcome to voice their opinions and the fighter with the most votes will get an unprecedented opportunity to take the heavyweight belt away from the champ!

WBC Championship
WBC Title Fight
Champion Mike Tyson, USA 16-1-1 (15) vs. #5 James Jeffries, USA 17-3-0 (15) Jeffries lands a hook to the body and follows up with a straight right that hurts Tyson at the 1:54 mark in the 1st. Jeffries pushes the champ into the ropes and lands another shot. This may be Jeffries best chance to end the fight but the champ makes it to the bell. Tyson seems to have recovered from a shaky first and both fighters trade punches to end the 2nd. Tyson wins round three handily and is cruising in the fourth. Tyson lands a sweet uppercut and the challenger is down at the end of the round. Jeffries is unable to get up as Tyson successfully defends his belt with a win (KO4). Title Fights WBO - Champion Joe Louis, USA, 16-1-0 (15) vs. #5 Max Schmeling, Germany, 21-4-1 (19) Germany’s Max Schmeling moves up 11 spots in the rankings to #5 after winning the EBU title from Vitali Klitschko. Louis has been inactive since April. Schmeling fought Klitschko after he had been out of the ring for six months. This will be seven for Louis. Wait till next year for the big fight. Have Stevenson and Drago fight an elimination bout on May Day (In Moscow) to see who gets to challenge Norton in DC on the Fourth of July.

Ah...a fight promoter that is thinking ahead!
Always thinking ahead, I like that Chris Conn! I like the idea. Actually, I may consider doing both ideas. Remember, Norton is from the old school, he likes to fight, and fight often.
