I <3 Jon Lester as much as anybody, but I wouldn't have minded him getting some more seasoning at Pawtuckett if it meant the Sox could put Clemens at the front of the rotation. Because as good as Schilling, Beckett, and Matsuzaka are, Clemens is still better. Oh yeah, and there would be that small matter of the Yankees not having him to plug that gaping hole in their rotation. I think the Red Sox could afford to pass on Clemens (especially at that price) given the strength of their rotation, but it would have been a wonderful sight to see Clemens back in a Red Sox uniform.

They were talking on SportCenter that he will also be working a bit with the younger pitchers. If he does, this will be big for a kid like Hughes who many have compared to a younger version of him

Maybe he can work with their new strength and conditioning coach too

Being an avid Redsox fan of 22 years now, I am glad he went to the Yankees. This just makes them look that much more desperate and pathetic. (Which they have been for years under the leadership of their sad little owner.)

I really thought the Pirates had a chance too.

Yeah, it would suck adding one of the elite pitchers in the game to the rotation.

I'm the farthest thing from a Yankees fan, but that statement makes no sense. Since when does signing one of the top pitchers in the game make your team look desperate and pathetic????? It is a sign of wanting to win, which is great for the team and fans, IMHO.

![]() The Sox with Clemens in the rotation would have been devistating. Schilling, Beckett, Clemens, Dice-K and Wakefield??? OUCH! This moves gives the Yankees a rotation of Wang, Mussina, Clemens, Pettitte and a kid which isn't as impressive but is still pretty strong. Granted, he's a stop gap, but the Yanks do have some future pieces which look like they are falling into place (Hughes, Clippard, Rasner and even Igawa if he can get some AAA time to work on his stuff).

Actually, if Roger wants to pad his win totals, he picked the best situation for him to do that.

Right. Desperate and pathetic. With probably far and away the best record in the majors over the last 12 seasons, a ****load of division titles, 4 World Series titles, and two other appearances.

As desperate and as pathetic as Red Sox management who has been spending at a ridiculous pace themselves just to keep up with the Yankees? Didn't they just shell out 20+ mil for RIGHT TO NEGOTIATE with Dice-K?? Yeah, thought so. I guess I just don't understand how this is a desperate move, the guy has probably been the best pitcher in the NL over the last couple seasons why wouldn't they try to sign him?? |

Yeah, going 7-6 whilst pitching brilliantly isn't much motivation for returning to Houston and their rinky dink offense.
