With the draft upcoming, its as good a time as ever to update my top prospects.

Top 5 Pitchers:

Jose “Demon” Ramirez-23-SP-Single A-DTA: 1902-5star
5/4/4 (Stuff/Move/CON)
Ramirez remains my top prospect by going 3-1 with a 3.10 in Single A. 40/17 K/BB in 50 IP. Will start next season in Single A, should be in AA by June and hopefully in Monroe by August.

Jesse “Fate” Patterson-21-RP-Majors-5star
4/4/4
This will be his last appearance as a prospect. He picked up 50 innings in Monroe and had a dominant 3.04 ERA and 48K's in 50.2 IP. Walk (32) and HR (6) issues show he has development left, but at just 21 he's a future stud closer.

Kevin Conway-19-SP-Rookie-ETA 1904-4.5star
3/4/4
Conway had a talent breakout and his potentials jumped to reach his performance. At just 19 he 6-4 with a 2.65ERA in 71.1 in the rookie league. Only 1 HR allowed and gave up just 26 walks. Only recorded 24 K's, which his a problem, but at just 19 he has a lot of developmental time.

Beau “Blinky” Jones-23-MR-AAA-ETA 1901-5star
4/3/4
46/19 K/BB in 49 IP is likely to earn him a shot at the bullpen to start next season. Didn't allow a HR, had a 1.65ERA, and he's left handed. Not as dominate as Fate Patterson, but will be a good setup man. Will be 24 at opening day. “Blinky Fate” is a cool nickname combo for a bullpen.

Marvin Riley-24-SP-AAA-ETA 1902-4.5star
3/3/3
107/44 K/BB and 7HR in 114.2IP looks nice. A major injury and ineffectiveness after he returned as me concerned. Depending on the off-season he may get a shot at the back of the rotation to start the year, but a career as a long-inning/spot starter may be his future.

Top 5 Hitters
Ralph Sanders-23-RF-ML-4star
4/5/3/3/3
.870 OPS, 20 HR, 34.6VORP and 66 extra base hits say everything you need to know about him. .348 OBP is a tad low from RF, but with his power I'll live. No longer a prospect.

Josh Fairchild-25-LF-ML-3.5star
3/5/4/3/3
Struggled a tad with his callup. Had 253 big league AB, but posted just a .328 OBP and only a .394slg. Good BB/K at 24/39, but at 25 he doesn't have a ton of development time left. Lack of defense also hurts. The plus side is, he's proven to be atleast a decent utility OF or lower end starter.

Jeremy Smith-23-LF-AAA-3.5star
4/5/4/2/3
Struggled in the pros. Had 20 AB, struck out 7 times and only had 1 walk, showing me his discipline is lacking, and thus, his OBP will lack. Even that, a 1.006 AAA OPS argues for him to get a shot, but that K rate is alarming.

Bob Johnson-21-C-A-4.5star
3/5/4/4/3
.275/.385/.366 single A line certainly isn't great, but he moves up for doing what he should do, get on base, play good defense and play at a hard to find position. Likewise, major league factors (Kyle Smtih struggling, OF and IF being stacked) help move him up.

Martin Gomez-23-SS-R-5 star
4/5/3/3/3
He moves into the top 5 by virtue of not struggling. A monster hitter at SS, only had 50 AB before bing injured, but potential lands him on the list. Arnold, Hardy, Lewis and Rodriguez all struggled the 2nd half, and they don't have the potential of Gomez.

1901 Draft

5th Pick overall
Brock Miner-SP-L-21years old
4/4/3---95-97----57%--9/10 Endurance, 10/10 Hold.

Flint Smart-CF-L-22years old
4/3/4/4/4--”5” Range

Roland Horn-RF-18years old
4/4/3/4/4---5's in speed, steal, instincts

Kevin Foley-2B-21years old
3/5/3/3/3--”4” in defense and stealing

Tim Cooper-SP-23years old
2/3/3—92-94MPH--66%GB

Ramon Vasquez-SP-21years old
3/2/3---91-93MPH---46%GB

Dan Kern-LF-20years old
2/5/3/3/2

Vincente Serano-1B-19years old
2/3/4/3/2

Bruce Hamilton-SS-22years old
3/4/1/2/3—4 defense at SS/3B—5 steal

Jesus Ibarra-SP-21years old
4/3/4---90-92MPH--52%--”5”endurance

Draft #2 went about the same as my first attempt, get the best starter in the draft (Miner) and then load up on hitting. Miner is a lefty to compliment Ramirez, who is right-handed. His endurance and Hold are a bit better, but his stuff isn't quite as good. Miner is more of a very good #2 then a true "ace".

Flint Smart becomes the best hitter in my system upon being drafted. CF is hard enough to find, let alone with that type of hitting potential, and he's a gold-glove guy. He's also pretty advanced, going right to A ball meaning he could be in the pros by next season. Ronald Horn is a close 2nd though, all the "others" (Range/Speed/Steal) and above average in every hitting category except HR power.

Kevin Folley became my only real 2b prospect by being drafted in the 4th. Good defense at 2nd and should be a bit above average as a hitter if developed, not a stud, but good enough.

Tim Cooper, Ramon Vasquez and Jesus Ibarra are all fringe starters. Ibarra has the talent, but a lack of stamina (was a RP, but "5" in endurance out of 10). Cooper and Vasquz are both marginal talents, but have the ability to eat innings at the back of the rotation.

Off-Season Preview

Looking at the season I had needs at SP and catcher. Looking long-term I could always use a top flight young player (who couldn't).

I don't really need OF help (Richert/Childers/Sanders/Smith/Fairchild). My IF is overloaded, Ybarra/C. Moore/J. Moore/Jones/Cooper/Karl. My bullpen is fairly well set with Garcia/Smith/Patterson plus Beau Jones could come up and others. Not many of these guys are complete

Financially Im in good shape. 193,000 spent out of 297,000 budget (according to the owner).

My goals are pretty simple, move Chris Moore (he's 33, makes 14,000 and plays in an overload infield). I'd also like to move Richert, though its not nearly as important (Makes less at only 8,000 and my OF isn't quite as deep).

Off-Season 1902

Move #1 was pretty simple I dealt Chris Moore for Henry McDonald, a 26 year old starter in AAA and a 2nd round draft pick. McDonald isn't much, but he has 5 years untill FA left, and was decent last season in AAA. He posted a 111/36/8 K/BB/HR rate over 150 innings. For his minor league career he has 148 saves and a 2.69 ERA over 582 innings. His talents are 2/4/2.

Chris Moore was going to cost 14,000 this season, this was going to be his last season on the team, he wasn't slated to start and he had poor morale. McDonald may not be much, but a decent 5th starter for a few seasons is better than what Moore was going to offer.

Not a lot happened the rest of the off-season. I went after Matt Staverly, a 28 year old catcher who had a .356 OBP and 38 HR, but in the end I thought his price was too high at 70,000 a year, and I didn't think he would help me enough when I needed it.

My biggest need is SP, and Staverly didn't help there. I think Im still two years away, for sure one, meaning he woudln't help my team contend untill he was on the downside of his career. I'll just save the money and payroll flexibility untill Im in actual contention, or find a younger player. I havn't completely given up on Kyle Smith anyway, and in 3 years their production may be close (Smith peaking, Staverly at 32 and slipping).

I did make one FA signing, David Peterson, a SP from South Bend. Peterson is 29 and got a 2 year, 22,500 contract, putting him in at a cool 11,250 a season which is pretty cheap considering Staverly went for 70,000 a season.

Last season Peterson went: 17-6, 3.61, 207IP, 146K, 69BB, 18HR.

The two previous seasons he pitched over 220.0 IP both seasons, posted ERA of 3.00 and 3.55 and had K/BB of 152/58 and 152/48.

Im hoping to get 2 seasons over 200 IP with an ERA under 4.00. Considering the league ERA was 4.55 last season and the derth of consistant starters on my team and in the league as a whole I think he was a steal.

Spring Training was nothing short of a disaster, we were hammered by injuries and I never even saw the spring training stats because I simmed to far.

Firstly, the injuries:
Earl Jones-SS-2 months
Jeremy Smith-LF-8months (#3 hitting prospect)
Jimmy Smith-SP-4days
Kyle Smith-C-4days.

In the end, only two will make a difference in the long term. On the other hand, Jones and Smith are both young players that expected to start. I was already semi-thin depth-wise.

Earl Jones being out untill June means Joe. Karl switch's to a starting roll for two months, but also means I don't have any good utility IF. Jeremy Smith isn't as big of an issue in terms of this seaon, I have plenty of OF, but Smith was a guy I was really hoping for big things for, but missing your entire age 25 seasons tends to hamper development. Fairchild will step in to start (despite being unimpressive last season).

With all that said, my lineup and rotation (not counting the 4-day injuries).

Vs RHP
CF-Ron Richert
2B-Joe Moore
RF-Ralph Sanders
1B-Miguel Ybarra
3B-Rob Cooper
SS-Joe Karl
LF-Josh Fairchild
C-Kyle Smith

Vs LHP
2B-Joe Moore
SS-Joe Karl
3B-Rob Cooper
1B-Miguel Ybarra
RF-Ralph Sanders
C-Kyle Smith
LF-Josh Fairchild
CF-Ron Richert

My Rotation:
1-Luis Robles
2-Jimmy Taylor
3-Dave Peterson
4-Danny Cortez
5-Marvin Riley

The Bully:
Closer: Ivan Garcia (Ryan Peterson)
Setup:Anthony Smith (Ryan Peterson)

Middle Relief:
Jesse Patteson
John Smith
Paul Mitchell
Ryan Peterson

Mopup:
Hisashi Yokoyama
Paul Mitchell

Opening Week

We start the seaosn on a high note, going 5-2 for the week with Miguel Ybarra winning the HL Player of the Week award by going 10-24 with 3 HR and 10 RBI.

The downside to this is Ralph Sanders was hurt on opening day and will miss a month. At this point we are now missing two projected starters in the OF (Jeremy Smith, Ralph Sandes) and our starting SS (Earl Jones) for extended perios (1 month for Sanders, 2 for Jones, season for Smith). Luis Robles was bombed in both of his starts his season to the tune of 11.17 ERA wise.

On the plus side Josh Fairchild has started nicely batting .355 with 2 jacks and a double and going 4-4 stealing bases. Dave Peterson is 2-0 with a 1.87.

Either way, its only been one week, but losing Sanders isn't exaclty good.

Down on the farm Jose Ramirez is 1-0 with a 0.73 ERA in 12 innings. 5/1 K/BB with 0HR allowed (A ball). Brock Miner has a 3.00 ERA and 8/3 K/BB over 12 innings down in the rookie league.

Miner is being promoted to SSA along with Denny Hayes (CL spec, last year pick).

We ended may with the worst record in the HL at 12-17 and 2nd worst in the FWL (behind 9-20 Flint).

Luis Robles has completely imploded, walking 10 walks batter his last start and has 20 walks in 30 innings this season to go along with his 7.27 ERA. At 4.75 we have the 5th worst ERA of all starting pitchers in the HL.

There are positives, at .350/12/31 Rob Cooper is the team triple crown winner. Jimmy Taylor is doing the same as a starter with 3 wins a 2.35 ERA and 33 strikeouts.

More importantly the minor leagues have been very successful. Demon Ramirez got the callup to AA where he struck out 8 his last start and Brock Miner went up to single A. Both may be ready for Septermber callups at this rate, though Im not entirely sure what pace Im going to put them at.

On June 9th we are sitting at 26-38, 16 games behind Kankakee for first place, and essentially are season is over in terms of playoff aspirations.

First, the Good:
Rob Cooper:.319/.400/.707 with 24 HR, 12 doubles, 3 triples and 62 RBI
Josh Fairchild:.316/.358/.528 10HR, 13 doubles and 3 triples
Ralph Sanders:.278/.350/.538 9HR (just 129AB)
Kyle Smtih:.289/.343/.463

Jimmy Taylor:7-3, 91.1IP, 2.36ERA, 64/22 K/BB, 13HR
Ivan Garcia:1.96ERA
Anthony Smith:3.03ERA
Jesse Patterson:3.18ERA,
Ryan Peterson:3.98ERA

The bad is the utter implosion of everyone else. Luis Robles has an ERA over 7.00 and is now a mop-up starter. Dave Peterson is 4-5 with a 4.89ERA, Danny Cortez 2-5, 6.38ERA.

Miguel Ybarra:.235/.314/.390
Joe Karl:.252/.303/.329
Ron Richert:.257/.308/.322
Joe Childes:.257/.296/.412

Joe Moore is now the DL now (and he was semi-struggling hitting only .299/.353/.364). Marvin Riley is also on the DL, but he was having a good season (56/38 K/BB, 3.84ERA, 77.1IP) but he's gone for 5 weeks.

In the HL we rank last in:
OBP, SLG, OPS, Runs, Strikeouts
