Japanese roster/historical database project

Just wanted to let you know that there is an updated version of the database up. It has cleaned up a few mistakes and omissions in the earlier versions. More importantly, it has more accurate positional data for the *** players...about 85% of players have the right position. For those that are missing fielding statistics, I substituted dummy fielding stats, based on the average *** player at that position.

*** Historical Database, version 0.3

I'm currently working on a 2007 league file (as either a template or a quick start). I'm hoping to combine it with one of the upcoming MLB packets. It will have real player history, and ratings generated based on *** to MLB equivalencies. It will also have full, relatively accurate minors (ni-gun) for ***, as I have minor league stats for 05 and 06, and I've made conversion factors from ni-gun to ***. (For those that are curious, the ni-gun leagues range from .77 to .82 in comparing batting statistics to the ***.)

If there are people that are interested in helping out here, the following would be helpful:

1) Face packs for *** players.
2) An accurate, 2007 schedule for both the Japanese major leagues AND ni-gun. PM me if you want to make the schedule, and I'll point you to sources for this information.
3a) A list of Japanese conferences for college baseball, and the teams in these conferences
3b) A list of the major Japanese high schools for each prefecture.
4) Any other contributions that might be helpful.

3a and 3b would be for adding feeder leagues. However, feeder leagues don't work correctly, they can be omitted.

I am not putting ANY dates on when I'll be finishing this...but I'm steadily working towards getting it done.

Tried loading DB and got continuing error, MS error message and game crashes when adding ***. Posted in tech forum in past, no response.

Have been getting same message and crash EVERY time i try to add a league, Anyone having this problem?

I've tested the DB multiple times, and haven't had that happen. Which database are you loading first?

Loaded the MLB 1st, all went well, tried to load *** and crash.

Are you loading from 2_NPBwMLBeq_Start, or 3_NPBwMLBeq_Import? You should be loading from 2 (I don't know if it works with three). Download the new file (version 0.3), and let me know if you still have a problem. Also, you might want to try loading the *** first and see if that makes a difference...it shouldn't, but I'm trying to think of potential problems.

DL'd the new DB, did exactly as you posted above, crashed again??????Loaded *** 1st this time.

Running AMD 64 dual core, 1 gb, 200 gb with invidia vid card 256 mb, XP Media center

Hmmm...I have no idea what could be causing the problem. Does it crash when loading? Does the DB load get to a certain percentage, and then crash? Does it give a specific error message? Have you retried after a reboot?

I'm at work right now, but I'll see what I can figure out later tonight. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

It loads the 1st DB fine, its when I add a historical league that problem occurs, I load either, *** or mlb, its ok, I add league and select other and starts loading and I get the MS error message and that wont allow me to copy the info. crashes to desktop.

This is not a DB issue, I ha=ve the same problem anytime I try to add a league.

I am using this db just fine. Have gone 3 years in it so far from 1992-1995. Anyone ran it where Dice-K appears? How is he?

I've ran it a few times from the start (1950) to 2010, and I can't remember how Dice-K did...I can pull the stats up when I get home from work.

Also, a few of us are working on a 2007 roster set, with player ratings based on MLB equivalencies. We have biographical info, correct teams, correct player faces, and player ratings for the *** and minors (ni-gun). Each team has anywhere from 50-70 players on their roster.

Things that we are adding right now are staff (maybe), ballparks (*** and ni-gun), finances, correct OF positions, and 2007 draft picks.

For those that are interested, I have a question. We can create a roster set with only player history for those that are currently in the league, or we can create a roster set with full league history (i.e. Japan series winners, full career statistical leaders, etc.) The latter quickstart will be bigger, but should have a full history.

Does anyone have a preference for one or the other?

Not to throw extra work on your shoulders, but why not do both?

If I had to choose, I'd definitely pick the one with the full history included

I'm currently working on one with the full history. It is very close to done, with ratings tweaking, salaries, and park factors to be finished. To give you an idea as to what it has, here are the features:

1. All players in both *** and ni-gun around opening day, including new foreign players and draft picks for 2007. Player ratings were generated based on MLB equivalencies, so that this can be attached to a good MLB universe to give realistic statistics.

2. A full statistical history for almost every player to have played in ***, including past Japan Series, MVP, Rookie of the Year, and some Gold Glove and Sawamura Award winners.

3. Team logos, team colors. I can add uniforms if someone has made them already (does anyone know of *** unis available?)

4. Player photos for most current players.

5. Accurate ballpark dimensions for *** and ni-gun stadia, ballpark pictures for most *** stadia, and estimated park factors (based on various sources) for *** parks.

6. Accurate salaries, and decent financials for each team.

7. Accurate managers and manager salaries.

What it doesn't have:

1. Accurate 2007 schedule.

2. Accurate staff, other than manager (as I don't have that info).

I hope to release a beta version Sunday night, and hopefully it will be decent.

Load *** first, or load MLB first, tried every possible way but crashes everytime when loading the second historical data.
Wondering why and at the same time it's a shame not being able to enjoy this great set ! (I checked out the *** datas roughly, and impressed so much about the details, and I am a Japanese.)

I wish I knew what to tell you...but I haven't been able to replicate the crash problem. I have a PC, and things import fine. I need to release an updated version of the DB anyways (to correct a few errors from before).

Also, I've release a 2007 *** Roster Set. This is based on, but separate from, the *** historical database. Details are in this separate thread. This is an early release, so if anyone in the community has any suggestions, corrections, or wants to help with future additions (i.e. feeder leagues, indepedent leagues), please let me know.

I know it is not something wrong with what you have done to your DB.
I think it has something to do with the indivisual PC (or Mac or whatever) problem that nobody really does not understand until certain point where there are so many people use this DB that somebody find out why the problem take place.....

I can still play the Japanese historical league with no problem, and it is an outstanding work by itself ! (Boy, how fun it was to sim Kintetsu from 87~92, to find out if they could win a Nippon Series if things turned out defferently.)

I have yet to be able to load both *** and MLB without crashing. would it be possible for someone to make a quickstart or template of the combined leagues, starting in 2000? I would love to host a combined online league of this, at that time frame?

Guys, I have had no crashes at all. Bill, I imported the 2000 MLB season from Lahman and murmur13's *** and have both in a saved game that I can give to you. You will, however, have to edit the path to the databases once you load it into your game.
