Actually, allowing alternative starting years (such as 1776) is not entirely pointless.

For example, I created and run a game called Eshraval. It's a nation simulation game, primarily, but there is a strong contingent of sports freaks in the game. The game year is 1307. There is considerable interest from 15+ nations in using one league file and creating all their pro baseball leagues in it. We then run the entire world's baseball universe, with inter-league player movement, etc.

As of now, we can't "full immerse" ourselves, as it were. All our leagues would have to be started, at the earliest, in 1800. I know we would certainly appreciate the ability to set a different or exotic starting year. It's not as important as other facets of the game, certainly, but would definitely be a nice addition (if not in this version, down the road).

And for the curious, we have not actually run the baseball yet. We are waiting for 2007, since a lot of it's new league options are exactly the types of things we need

Take care.

Well, check out this attempt at an 18th-century dynasty.

Well, darn! I wish I'd read this post before I responded to your dynasty thread.

Fantastic idea for a "historical" themed league: The Story of America. Each state gets one team. Starting in the mid-18th Century with 13 teams, one for each of the original colonies/states, and expanding in the year each state is admitted to the union.

(No revenue sharing under the Articles of Confederation!)
