Mauresmo might not be the most physically attractive player, but she seems like an enjoyable person, unlike Serena Williams.
Now, on to serious things, Mauresmo is considerably inferior to Federer. The Belgians both have very good odds of beating her (it's a shame the best female player in the world is out for the moment, she's one of my favourite players to watch), and any top 10 player has a legitimate shot at her. I think that other than Nadal on clay, no one can expect to have a close contest Federer. There is a very interesting parity in the WTA, while Federer absolutely dominates the ATP. If you look at the ATP rankings, the points go as follows: 8120 (Federer), 4525 (Nadal), 2825 (Davydenko), etc. The 10th ranked player has 2000 points. On the WTA side, Henin, Sharapova and Mauresmo are all in the 3000's, while three others are in the 2000's. It's a much closer race, and even though the rankings aren't necessarily perfect, I think that this time it fairly accurately shows the parity of the WTA and the disparity of the ATP. Federer is a monster. For anyone who's into the whole "role model" thing, i think Mauresmo and Federer both offer something very good. They both know that they are very good, and without being charismatic, they have a very good public image, displaying modesty, kindness and good sportsmanship on and off the court. But I don't really care for that - I'm just happy to see Federer play, and I'm just glad to see Mauresmo being able to fight off any kind of play, powerful grace of Sharapova to the intelligence of Henin.

Another fascinating, error-filled, emotionally draining match..Serena vs Jankovic. So many missed easy shots. Heat. Humidity. Jankovic breaking down mentally and emotionally.
What a great Australian Open thusfar.

Li vs Hingis match is entertaining and the two women actually look like women. Li is about to win the first set.

Does Mauresmo screech after hitting every shot like some of the other women players do? Nothing drives me crazy more than those players who screech, no, make that shriek, after hitting EVERY SINGLE SHOT no matter how hard a shot it is to hit. The entire match consists of them shrieking every time their racket touches the ball.
IIRC Sharapova is really bad for that. |

LMAO, this reminds me, I was watching some US Ping Pong championship the other day and the guys were literally yelling like the tennis players do. It was absolutely unreal. |

Doesn't matter really, since Mauresmo is out of the tournament. Looks like Sharapova(shrieks or not) will take over the top spot, and Clijsters is her only serious competition left in this tournament.

She's not anywhere near the "queen" Monica Seles. She was awful.

Serena loses first set 3-6 but has broken back to lead 3-2 in the second. As long as Sharapova doesnt win the whole thing, I'll be happy.

I'd rather have Sharapova win it than Serena. I can't stand that woman. Sharapova's a pretty smart player, but if she can get excellent in that department, she'll be scary.

What is it about her that you can't stand? Her incredible fighting spirit? Her unquenchable desire to win? Her bootyliciousness?

. No, it's her arrogance on and off the field as well as her exaggerated exuberance that I cannot stand. That said, she is greatly talented. I'm not sure that she is the right person to mention along with fighting spirit and inquenchable desire to win considering how sloppy she's played when she wasn't injured in the past year or two. As for "bootyliciousness", whatever that is.... eww.
