Since Yzerman has been with the Wings, Detroit has won 3 NBA titles, 1 World Series, 3 Stanley Cups, 1 NCAA Football Championship, and has had a 2000 yard runningback.

I would say Detroit does pretty decent in sports.

I didn't know that 1 tongue in cheek comment was every other post? The posts in the college football thread are facts, it's not bashing Steve Breaston to say he was the 3rd best WR on his own team last year and that he's not a Heisman candidate.

Carry on with your Stevie Y thread.

Again, my TONGUE IN CHEEK comment had little to do with sports and more to do with the City in general and the current athletes that play for their teams.

Do explain, because the content of your post was that I bashed Michigan/Detroit every other post yet I clearly only bashed them once, and as I said it was mainly in jest.

I got your tounge in cheek post, thats why i did not quote it, I was just making a general post about Detroit.

But now, I do have to ask, what is wrong with the current athletes in Detroit?

As far as the city itself, it is a dying city, but the suburbs are growing. Oakland County (which touches Detroit) is the 20th richest county in the country.

Eh, just not the most likeable teams in the world. The Red Wings are a great organization though. The Tigers are actually a feel good story so maybe they can keep this going.

As for the city, well lets just say I'm not the biggest fan in the world. I'm sure the suburbs are beautiful though.

Let me spell it out. This has nothing to do with sports. Stop bashing the city/state.

Oh ok so sorry. Detroit is the most beautiful, safe, and clean city in the entire world. I've never actually bashed the actual state of Michigan. Like every other post, you're way off base.

That's great because I said those things and they are clearly true right? No, its a dying city without much going for it, the auto industry is a ****hole and falling fast. Just lay off.

Like say Football, Baseball, and Basketball. OSU had won the Big 10 3 or 4 times in a row in baseball before this season, don't try to compare the 2 baseball programs.

Football is self explanatory.

Michigan hasn't beat OSU in basketball since Matta took over 0-3 and I think anyone that follows College Basketball knows who the better program is going to be over ATLEAST the next 5 years not to mention historically (nice run there in the late 80's and early 90's though).

You got us in Hockey, CONGRATS!! Though I believe in our worst season in a decade we still split the season series.

Actually for some reason, I was thinking pro sports.

Regardless, OSU doesn't OWN UM in every major sport.

Football is a toss-up
Basketball is debatable
I have no idea on baseball
We're better in hockey.

Football over the course of the last 5 years is not debateable, historically it's impossible to pick one as I believe the series is tied in the last 52 years or something. OSU by a mile in baseball. Basketball isn't debateable unless you take a 7 year period between 87-93.

You got us in hockey and I'm sure there are others like Softball.

Pro Sports assuming we went Detroit vs. Philly would be quite an interesting debate.

Eh, I don't know about that one. The Philly teams have made the playoffs with much more consistency even in Hockey. If you wanna go recent history as in the last 15-20 years. The Red Wings have been better than the Flyers but not by that much. The Pistons have been better than the Sixers. The Eagles have been MUCH better than the Lions and the Phillies have been better than the Tigers.

Historically:

Sixers > Pistons
Tigers > Phillies
Red Wings > Flyers but since the Flyers entered the league you could certainly form an arguement that the Flyers have been as good or better.

Eagles > Lions

Saying one is better than the other is tough, you can argue both ways. The one thing you can say though, is that Detroit teams tend to cash in when they go deep in the playoffs and the Philly teams have totally choked over the last 20 years.
