Wow having 2 starters from a team that offense ranks 10th out of the AL would be sweet for us NL fans. NL might actually pull it off. I'm going to like the All-Star game this year, this will be the one and only time that GForce and I can root for the same team and players.

Has anybody figured it out that the All-Star game is a popularity contest yet? Just checking. Just because you are the best player, doesn't mean you are going to start. NL will probably have Paul Loduca catching.

I'd assume you realize that, aside from Frank Thomas, Swisher and Chavez have basically been the ONLY source of offense in Oakland. Their team ranking doesn't mean much when there's 7 other hacks in the lineup every day.

It's like saying Randy Johnson sucked in his last year as a D-back because he only won 12 games.

Toronto's Alex Rios continued to lead in write-in votes, his total of 103,084 leaving him with a chance of cracking the top 15.

I'm not watching this year. The balloting has GOT to be changed.

Why, so that it's not an all-star game?

Is it an all star game or a popularity contest?

Maybe it should be changed to "Best Players So Far This Season" game if you want to get specific :P

What is a star: a marketable, famous player, or a good player? Radiohead are better songwriters and musicians than Britney Spears, but are they bigger stars?

I look at the all-star game like I look at Oscars or Grammys. I know the best people won't win, I know that it's a popularity contest with a token "good" pick to satisfy critics, like the all-star game.

It's not the all-great game, it's the all-star game.

Which is strange since we can vote starting a month into the season (right?), and the ballots are established before the season's start. It's clearly not meant to have the best elements in it.
