Dark Horse, I can't put my finger on it, but didn't Markus or someone mention that your scenario wouldn't be possible? I thought it was written that player movement between individual leagues would not be possible. If that is the case, I can't see your setup working, because while your universe could contain a major league and a separate independent league, you would not be able to feed one with the other, unless the independent league was a minor league of your major league.

Not criticizing, just thinking I heard this discussion before...

i'm pretty sure i'll be able to do this in some fashion.

For instance, in a real world modern day set up, a player from say the Japanese League would be able to come to the Major League. In this case, the player from the Japanese League would have to become a free agent. Once a free agent, a MLB team would have the opportunity to pick him up.

In my fictional league, my main league would be like the MLB and my independent league would be like the Japanese League. i think i would prefer it if the major league team were able to purchase a contract, too; kinda' like the pre-minor league days of the American and National leagues. But as long as they can come over after being free agents, it'll work for me.

i may be thinking of a different discussion, but i think Markus said it would be impossible to trade between leagues; i.e. New York Yankees and Chunichi Dragons.

I sure hope not. The idea of players moving between leagues is one I am looking forward to. I don't want a lot of them, but it would be nice to see it happen from time to time.

Yes. That is the set-up I'm hoping for, too.

I think the idea of the reserve roster (and I found this thread after doing a search for just this reason) is that there is no MECHANISM in place for a team to search out an independent league player in case of an injury.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing where I have multiple independent leagues in my universe but only the lowest levels have amateur drafts. All players in the higher level leagues get there by signing as free agents. But what happens if players get hurt on those teams? I don't THINK the AI would be smart enough to think, "Nuts, I have to dip back down into the independent leagues and sign another catcher".

This reserve roster is great because it'll allow teams to stash players in case of injuries. I was really hoping this would be in place.
