In 2004 he lost velocity and they could not figure out where it went. Some suspected he just wasn't putting in the work/effort he had in 2003. His cut fastball went from unhittable to very, very hittable. I have no idea what caused him to bounce back to have a decent year last year.

A rotation of Harden, Loaiza, Haren, Blanton, and Saarloos or Kennedy(?)

So what do the A's want for Zito? How about Milton Bradley and a top notch pitching prospect

To that end, the first thing I thought when I read that was "Hm. I wonder what he knows that I don't."

Most likely how he has done in Oakland.

2002: 2-0, 0.55 ERA
2003: 2-0, 1.93 ERA
2004: 0-1, 5.57 ERA
2005: 1-0 2.57 ERA

Beane must be expecting those types of numbers this season from Loazia.

I think he was helped by that park. I'll bet quite a few mistakes died on the warning track. He should be OK in Oakland, I would guess.

I'd much rather our old GM negotiate this than our new one. I'd be much less concerned who that pitcher might be.

And now he won't have to face the vaunted Oakland lineup when he's there.

Who would you not give up in a trade for Zito?
Billingsley? Miller? Jackson?
Tiffany or Broxton?
Tiffany and Broxton?

Funny, Dodgers fans wold probably say no to trading Billingsley but the A's would want Billingsley AND Broxton along with a slugging outfielder.

I'd do Zito for Billingsley, Broxton, and LaRoche.

That said, I'd much rather that Lew Wolffe opens up his wallet and gives Zito a 4 years and 48 million extension.

I thought I'd mention that not only did the A's give up 21mil to Loaiza, they also give their first round Ammy pick to the Nationals since he is a type A free agent.

From what I saw he's Type B, but the point is still right. They give up their 1st round pick for him.

That makes the move even more puzzling.

dola,

Should add that Dotel and Durazo are both Type A guys. I'm not sure if Beane will offer either of them arbitration, but if he does and they go elsewhere Beane will get that first round pick right back.

Dotel should get offered Arby, but not Durazo.

Dotel ALREADY has talks going, but Durazo would be wasting money, as I don't think he'd come back from missing a season and put up a .900 OPS again.

Well, the 2006 class is supposed to be pretty weak. Maybe Beane doesn't think the signing bonus for a late first-rounder would be worth the return.

Now according to everywhere, Oakland is lookin to get Bradley from LA.IMO, Bradley won't cost Zito.

No way.

However, if packaging Zito will land some of LAs high prospects, I'd do it.

LA gets:
Zito
Payton

OAK gets:
Bradley
Billingsley
LaRoche
Tiffany

DO IT BILLY!
