2 years, $18 million. Alot of money, but probably less than Beckett's market value to say the least.

(1) There is a rumor (Gammo?) that Lowell might be shipped to the Twins.
(2) There is a rumor (Gammo?) that the Sox received money from the Marlins.

Who the hell is going to be in the rotation with Dontrelle next year? He can't pitch everyday, can he?
Dontrelle, Jason Vargas, Scott Olsen, Brian Moehler?, Ismael Valdez, Josh Johnson?...essentially a whole heap of young arms with promising talent unless they sign a career nomad so these guys can develop.

He can't be too much worse than what was left at SS/2B at the end of our season.

theyre trying to cut costs, Blalock isnt the answer and he hit .263 and he probably wouldn't hit more than 30 HRs in our park and strikes out way too much...doesnt fit in well with our team. This trade gives the Marlins a damn good SS of the future, lets Miggy move back to his natural position and lets Chris Aguila and/or Jeremy Hermida try to prove themselves. Beckett can be traded because we have plenty of young arm prospects and we just added another in the deal. If I thought they were trying to become a power or at least a sizable contender Id think they were crazy, but for what they're trying to do with the team...its a good deal.

Yeah, but there's a reasonable claim that they're paying double for what Lowell's worth, so in that sense the Marlins received $9 mil in cash in this deal as well...

Yeah I'm wondering if the Sox got a significant amount of cash in the deal or not. I could see them getting a few mil in the deal to make up for that difference. Plus there's always the chance the Lowell rebounds and has a fantastic year.

The offer the Rangers made was better than the one Florida accepted from Boston. Perhaps the dopes did us a favor.

You mean taking the lesser tier SP prospect and a SS who even Boston fans admit is over rated isn't the same as a 2 time allstar 3B who is 25 and a potential #2 SP?

It's what happens when a team gets fixated on a particular goal, in this case filling the SS position, and the myopia results in an inferior deal. Jon Daniels could have done the same and wildly overcompensated the Marlins to fill a perceived pitching need. I'm liking this kid more every day.

when youre trying to cut costs, yes. I still want to know who the 3rd prospect is if this trade even happens.

Sanchez is > Danks and likely Diamond.

That said, I'd rather have Blalock than Hanley by a good margin.

I didn't want to see Hanley go but for Beckett ... hell yeah. Rotation all of a sudden is looking pretty decent.

Beckett, Clement, Schilling, Papelbon, and Arroyo or Wakefield.

There are too many of these frickin threads! The third Sawk is Jesus Delgado. I think Boston fans are allowed to be happy now. (Of course, everything is still pending physicals.)

I like Wakefield alot but I like him out of the pen. It's a nice change of pace from whoever started the game.
