Perfect! does that do *everything* needed, or are there any other steps to fulfill?

Thanks a million!

Be sure and rename it "ltrans" and not "lalltrans". CATO does not look for or use the "lalltrans" file, it uses the "ltrans" file. Both are vasically the same except the "lalltrans" has more transactions in it than "ltrans".

when doing this, are you taking a chance screwing something up in-game and in the games almanac when it is generated at the end of the year?

Unzip the exe file into the .lg/LEAGUE_NEWS_BOX folder.

Run it and it will create a file called lalltrans2.txt, leaving the originally untouched.

Move the original out of that folder and rename this one.
When moving the original file out of the folder, should we delete it (I mean is there anymore use for it) or should we then put it back into the folder we took it out of for the in-game almanac? Thanks. I just don't want to screw up any ingame statistics reporing.

No, not as long as you leave the copy of "lalltrans" in the folder as well as renaming it to "ltrans".

Basically what you should do is make your changes in "lalltrans". Save it. Make a copy and rename the copy "ltrans". This way you still have both files.

Thanks for replying.

So, if using the fix provided above what should I do then? Just as you suggested?

Glad I could help...

www.sim2005.com/catofix2.zip

Unzip to the league_news_box folder and run it.

It creates a new file called lalltrans2.txt, leaving the original untouched.

This one adds the released player line before the retired player line.. let me know how it works..

So does this solve the problem with players un-retiring in the middle of a season?

Markus:

Repost from a related thread. This isn't simply a Cato issue. It's a game issue. I agree with Bruce and it can only be said again and again. It shouldn't happen. These mid-season issues are even more disturbing when a game-owner has his retirement option turned OFF.

Player href=rxxx.html signs with New York (A)

When the player signs, and you change that r to a p, his history will only show as him being with NY for that season. A release line is needed just prior to this signing transaction showing him released from the team he retired from.

If a player just retires and doesn't resign with anyone, there is no need to add another player release line.

This is getting too complicated anyway. I continue to do my fixes manually, one at a time. Still only takes me 20 - 30 minutes tops to fix the trans file.

I'm still hoping that Markus will fix the root of the problem, and that is to stop players who retire from going to the FA pool and signing with another team. This just shouldn't happen. The player should not become an FA after retiring mid season. If he wishes to unretire it should happen during the offseason. If he comes back during the same season, then his rights should still belong to his original team.

Crap. If this indeed a OOTP issue I hope that Markus will fix it. I'm sure he will try I just hope he succeeds. Good luck Markus.

Don't read that that Larry's program or the simple additional step you need to take doesn't solve the problem -- It does. It's just that one or the other needs to be done and requires a few minutes effort to leap the hurdle.

So Larry's fix does fix everything? If not then what is left? Thanks for helping. I've been in and out of the loop here at OOTP for the past 2 weeks so I am not to sure on details.

I know that it creates a new file. So what (again) do we actually have to do? I know I've asked but I just want a step by step procedure because I don't want to screw up.

Thanks again endgame.

Just curious, but does switching from 6.5 to 6.12 and then running Cato with the file within the 6.12 game help any of the issues listed above? Does it create any other issues that we may not know of? Has that been tested at all?

I got a few errors, even after the catofix (unfortunately I forgot what they were and didn't write them down either), so I'm trying this method now. Just curious if this'll cause any issues.

This won't make any difference. The transactions files are all written, they won't change by moving your league folder to 6.12. The same problems will still be in the transaction file.

Yeah? Well, that makes two of us except I've been here everyday. My thoughts:

The resulting lalltrans2.txt will need to be renamed ltans.txt -- details:
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...37&postcount=2

Frankly, I just don't know now how the current version of LA's Catofix is handling the mid-season retirement issue. In fact, one of the racing thoughts I've had recently wondered -- if it does address it -- in what order it does, given that there is a replacement of r with p going on and you would want the r in place, I think, to notify you of any after-r signings.

If you are nowhere near season's end, maybe just waiting to see how and if Markus handles it is in order. If you are at your season's end and want to proceed, I'd probably just use LA's Catofix2 and double-check manually to verify that IF you had any mid-season retirees that "were" signed by new teams, they have a release line preceeding that signing. Beyond that, I believe you're good to go. You might recall this comment as you consider that:

If a player just retires and doesn't resign with anyone, there is no need to add another player release line.
If you're inclined to manually implement every step, then you still can. It's a 20-30 minute task but you'll be hands-on and a bit more certain of what you've done, not done, and why. Personally, I'm back to square one as I'm starting a league over instead of evaluating this one -- but that's due to other issues, not this one.

This kinda is putting me off on starting my new league as well. I had to start a new league because my I had deleted something before I backed it up - yes, that was dumb on my part. Anyways, I hope Markus gtes this issue fixed. I mean, when you give someone the option to turn off something and that option is still turned on even though you have it OFF that really sucks. Not the most proper use of words but thats all I can come up with now.

In the meantime, I will use Larrys utility. But like you said endgame, I still need to check to see if a player retires and then if it the case I just need to replace the r with a p? Is that it? Larrys utility will do everything else, right?
