Pat Skrable

I thought the best approach was to use (and de-age as best I could) a picture of an older him. Here's Pat, the Pride of Bakersfield

The pena--001rob Roberto Pena does not match the baseballreference Roberto Pena of 50 years ago, but instead a modern Roberto Pena.

Roberto Pena

During a 16-year professional baseball career spanning 1959 to 1974, Roberto Peña was a stalwart shortstop in his homeland, the Dominican Republic. He played for two winter league champions and earned posthumous retirement of his uniform number by the Santiago-based Águilas Cibaeñas. Over parts of six big-league seasons (1965-1971), Peña broke in with the Chicago Cubs, became the majors’ first Dominican everyday shortstop with the Philadelphia Phillies, and started the inaugural game for the San Diego Padres franchise. After a cup of coffee with the Oakland A’s, he hit the first grand slam [in inside the park one that put Al Kaline in the hospital] in Milwaukee Brewers history. - SABR

There was no facegen file with his Minors Historical ID so it was pulling the First_Last.fg file.

Bullpen held for ya. Good luck in the WS, percolaten!

Yeah I know it's a very old request you did percolaten but since I just did him for the 1924 FGs update... why not post him now.

We need a FaceGen for Charles Lusted, more commonly known as Chuck Lusted. His historical ID is lusted001cha.

Chuck Lusted

The Holy Innocents' athletic department is excited to announce the hiring of Chuck Lusted as the new General Manager of Softball Operations. "I'm very excited to work with this group of girls," Coach Lusted said. "These are kids who want to work, want to be taught, and they are quick learners. I'm excited to be able to teach them how to play the right way and how to play with class."

He brings more than a solid resume into our dugouts, as he was a pitcher in the San Francisco Giants organization back in the 80s. He has also coached at both the collegiate and high school levels, collegiately at both East Georgia State College and at Emory University. He has high school experience at Centennial and Pinecrest and is on the Hall of Fame at Georgia Southern, where he was a star pitcher. Besides all this, he has earned state and national acclaim with his work on the ball fields at all levels, both as a player and a coach.

Best of luck and, of course, Go Bears! - athletics.hies.org

Here's my go at him with a closed mouth and no smile.

Yes, as I've been tracking down some of these missing players, I'm finding that quite a few are still involved in the game as high school coaches, youth coaches, mentors in community programs, etc. It's also interesting to see how their faces have changed or not changed much over time.

Thanks so much for these fantastic player updates!

Now we just need to get the development team to implement more of the player ID updates or fixes, because a lot of "missing" players already exist in the Facegen files, often with decent images, but the game is looking for the wrong files.

The only person that can change the CUF file names are myself at the source (for all) or those that use the pack after downloading it (for themselves). The CUF pack has never been audited since the game moved to align the fg file names from invented ones to baseball-reference ones (now years ago). There are SO many dead files. I started to administrate the CUF pack almost a year ago and started an audit because so many of the files are dead and don't link to anything.

Here was my first post of the topic:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/....php?p=5012774

Here is my second post on the progress:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...13740&page=190

A lot of the facegens that are mislabeled are very old and not that great in my opinion. It's frankly too much work to realign them so I see why no one ever did it before. Make no mistake though, the OOTP development team doesn't currently make facegens. OOTP Community members do. And yes, it is fun to see what happened to folks be they MLB or MiLB players. That's why I like to take a few minutes and include a blurb about the player in nearly every post.

Okay, I've been tracking missing players and those where the Facegen file name and OOTP ID don't match. I'm pretty sure that I've seen cases where OOTP is not using the correct Baseball Reference ID, but I'll start compiling my own list to send to you, and I'll keep posting requests for missing players that don't have Facegens, or requests to fix players with bad Facegens or zombie versions.

I'm willing to help create player images as well, but I would probably have to buy Facegen and learn how to do it properly. Some obscure players would be particularly tough to create because there are no source images with an ideal or clear headshot.

If you see any misaligned Historical Minors IDs, definitely let me know and I will get them changed. It takes a patch and a new game for any new db to load but getting the IDs fixed in the OOTP db is the most important thing.

Between AESP and I, I think we get to most of the requests. Sometimes I'm overwhelmed as I have my own list I am working off of, but generally we get to them in a few days. I use the mid-price facegen software. I think it is $350 or so. It creates a resolution that the free demo can't match. I think of it as the cost of being a perfectionist.

I use the free version and the results are fine with me (but using an AI tool really improve the results if I compare what I do this year with the one I did previously)... but I'm not a perfectionist at all

For my part, I use AI Labs to help turn some smiles into neutral expressions. I also use various photo software programs like Photoshop to touch up shadows and imperfections in color and the like. I generally sharpen images in Myheritage's photo enhancer, if necessary. The facegen software can do somethings to an image to improve it, but generally most things ought to be done before you input it into the facegen software.

ImgCreator... not necessarily the best one since I don't use a mobile phone so my choices are limited, but for the price it does a good enough job for me.

Another big plus for me is that it's easy to use and I don't lose the credits unused the following month.

"I use AI Labs to help turn some smiles into neutral expressions"... I do that with a cut and paste job using Microsoft Paint which isn't ideal but after running the image through the AI I usually got a close mouth that looks natural.

Substitute the word "Photoshop" for "Paint" and I do this as well. Depends which I test and decide will work better for a given image. Agree that the other programs (Myheritage in my case) will make a touch-up look natural after the enhanced result is spit out.

Here are some players that are missing Facegens, or maybe OOTP is pointing to old IDs. In either case, if there are Facegens for these, they likely need to be replaced with better versions.

Bob Fenner
No Hist/BB Ref IDs
Hist Minors ID: fenner001rob

Billy Urbanski
Hist ID: urbanbi01
No BB Ref ID
Hist Minors ID: urbans002wil

Dave Harris
Hist/BB Ref IDs: harrida01
Hist Minors ID: harris006dav
