Celtic 'keeper Boruc slams Giggs after penalty drama

Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has accused Ryan Giggs of diving to fool referee Lubos Michel into awarding Manchester United a crucial penalty in their Champions League Group F opener.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink gave the SPL side a shock lead at Old Trafford. But United hit back on their way to a 3-2 win, after the Slovakian official awarded them a chance to equalise from the spot.
The Polish goalkeeper seemed to collide accidentally with the winger just in the box, even though the ball was running out of play - and Boruc was furious with Giggs.

'For me it was never a penalty, so I was angry,' said the 26-year-old. 'I tried not to touch him, and he just dived. It looked like he dived. I am upset, and so are my team-mates. We played well, but it was not enough.'

Celtic captain Neil Lennon claimed Michel could not wait to give the decision to the home side.

Michel was involved in Celtic's controversial UEFA Cup final defeat to Porto in Seville in 2003, and Lennon feared the worst as soon as he realised who was in charge of the British clash.

'From what I have heard it was very debatable,' he said. 'From where I was the contact was minimal. But Mr Michel is a good old friend of ours, so we didn't expect many favours off him.

'We met him in Barcelona as well, so we weren't holding out for anything off him. From our point of view he couldn't wait to give it.

'I went and had a word and said to give it you have to be 100% sure - but he said `I am'. It is inconclusive from the TV.'

Boruc believes that incident - which saw Giggs hobble off injured - changed the match.

Louis Saha scored from the spot and then made it 2-1 soon afterwards.
Shunsuke Nakamura equalised with a free-kick just before the break - but just two minutes after the restart, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pounced after more good work from the Frenchman to secure the victory.

'It was really a big thing in the match,' Boruc grumbled. 'We were playing well and we had scored a goal at that time. After the penalty we were afraid about what was going to happen.'

Lennon agreed: 'The goal gave us a lift, and I thought at that time we were having the bulk of possession. It was just a ball over the top.'

They'd all be running round in the same kit, most teams home kits have white on it, either shorts, socks or trim so it would mean every team would be wearing a white away kit and seeing that most teams have white in their home kit they would all have to bring in a third kit as they would clash against most home teams, example being Newcastle play in black and white stripes thus any team would not be able to wear a white top.

Plus colours are important to a team and it's fans always have been always will, to be honest it's just like gangs in America. You wouldn't believe the rumblings that go on when teams decide to change jerseys, this season Wigan fans aren't happy with the fact we have gone back to a pretty much solid blue jersey instead of the traditional blue and white stripes that were worn last season.
It's fine for a team to wear a different color jersey on away games. I know Manchester United has wore their home uniforms on the road. But for the games that they do have conflicting unis...... My issue is why, a team like United choose all blue as their away units when there isn't a touch of it on their shield. They could use their white jerseys on the road and black as their third jerseys. (though United's away uniforms are white and black, their third jerseys are the dreded blue on blue).

Man Utd have actually played in blue since the 68 European Cup Final so no doubt they keep the blue because of that, they actually started of playing in yellow and green when they started of life as Newton Heath.

Sports are different over here, were stateside you either wear a coloured jersey or white jersey to show if your either the home or road team it's not the case here.

Maybe the blue represents something else other than the badge, as some teams mostly international ones wear colours to represent certain things ie Italy wear blue because of the house of Savoia who ruled up until just after World War 2, Holland are the same with the house of orange thus they wear orange and so on.

QPR's shield is simply blue and white, but they have blue/white hoops on their home kit. They have solid blue away, black alternate, and red alternate.

QPR actually started of playing in navy blue and aqua halves then changed to a Celtic kit green and white hoops and wasn't until the late 1920's they started to wear blue and white hoops, apart from twice were in the late 40's they wore blue with white sleeves and the mid to late 50's wore an all white top.

Here color changes are pretty slight. The blue jays darkened their blue, if I'm not mistaken. The padres are the only team I can think of with huge differences over the years

Cool, alot of football teams took their colours from rugby teams that's why early kits you see alot of quarters in the design. Also you see alot of repeat kits as an example Aston Villa's kit of claret and blue was copied by various teams like West Ham and Burnley, some famous kits actually owe their birth to lesser teams ie Juventus wouldn't play in black & white stripes if it wasn't for Notts County.

I like the Man Utd kit a classic look which dates back to the late 50's although the sponsorship does spoil it a bit, Bayern's is a good kit for this season as well, they go with a classic look.

I like the Borussia Dortmund kit. Their financial situation destroyed this team however.
