I'll be looking forward to the Sugar Ray Mike/Oh-Kon Kim. I'm hoping Mike can take the belt off of him.

And now, for the news that one octagenarian in the forgotten coffee house in Barcelona has been waiting for all week...

Another sneak peek pilfered from the editor's desk by Chalky the Newsboy ![]() GLASGOW PICAYUNE Sporting Edition | Volume V, Issue V | 01 May, 1904 April Round-Up Carrasco Over Talamantez In a WalkSevilla, Spain: In a complete miss-match, Spanish Lightweight champion Pedro Carrasco demolished veteran journeyman Jose Talamantez (16-45-8). Twenty-six seconds after the opening bell, Carrasco dug two shots into Talamantez' bread-basket that doubled him over in pain. Carrasco battered his man for nearly half a minute more before landing a wicked cross to the head that sent Talamantez over backward and to the canvas. A ten count was issued but referee Fred Steinwinder III could have gone on counting all night; Talamantez wasn't going anywhere. The fight actually goes in the books as a title defense and improves Carrasco's record to 13(7)-2-0. Spanish Lightweight Top Ten - 01 May, 1904 Campeon del Boxeo de Espana Code:

The others were intentional. What, no interest those fine Spanish lightweights?

Man, the Spanish LW division is stacked. Valentino Compton for World Title Shot PLZ. I do actually have a question about them are Carrasco and Galiana any good or are those pretty records from everyone around them sucking so much.

In my game, they are both rated 7 though Carrasco has more power. They met once in a non-title fight with Galiana taking a pretty lopp-sided ten round decision. Jose Talamantez was actualy a Mexican-American from California Boxrec Link but I shuffled him off to Spain in my little world. I did a bit of that early on to balance things geographically.

While were on the fence here, I think David Azuaga and Rene Azaguri deserve title shots

Another sneak peek pilfered from the editor's desk by Chalky the Newsboy ![]() GLASGOW PICAYUNE Sporting Edition | Volume V, Issue V | 01 May, 1904 April Round-Up Espadas Wins With Late FlurryNewark, New Jersey: Johnny Buff took the NABF Flyweight belt in January of 1904 and found himself back in the ring by April with former Mexican champion Guty Espadas. The fighting was in close and furious as the two traded blows and rounds through three frames. Espadas landed a few punishing blows in the fourth to grab a nice 3-1 round edge. Buff, angry with his performance, lunged off his stool at the start of the fifth and tore into Espadas' ribcage with abandon. By mid-round, Guty was wincing and covering his sides. Buff took advantage and landed stinging blows to the challenger's head. Buff continued to inflict pain as he rolled through the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth rounds winning all and leaving Espadas with a battered face and bruised ego. Espadas began to play the part of the beaten man in the ninth as he carried his arms low and seemed content to let Buff carry the action. Near the end of a lack-luster ninth, Buff took a big swing that missed and left him wide open for a smashing hook from Guty. The blow stunned Buff and allowed Espadas to land half a dozen crushing blows before the bell sounded. With three rounds to go, the tide was turning. With blood in the water, Espadas moved in for the kill in the tenth greeting Buff with a barrage of punches from the opening bell. An uppercut right on the button at 1:39 sent Buff down into a heap for the first knockdown of the fight. Referee Jose Medina-Solar began his count; at three, Buff rolled over onto his stomach and tried to push himself up but slumped back into the canvas. He managed to finaly get to one knee at nine and staggered to an upright position just before ten. The champ was out cold on his feet but managed to survive the balance of the round on gut instinct. The eleventh round found Espadas suddenly too tired to finish the job, he took the round but in unconvincing fashion setting up a twelfth and final round with everything still on the line. Buff found his legs once again and became the aggressor in the final frame. With Espadas' corner screaming at him to get busy, he was simply unable to mount any sort of attack allowing Buff to win the final round of the fight hands down. The hometown crowd thought Buff had done enough to keep the title in New Jersey despite the devastating tenth round that their man had suffered. Much to the assembled throng's dismay, judges Vorasak Pakdeekam and Michael Tate saw it 115-113 and Frederico Villamer turned in a 114-113 card all for the new NABF Flyweight Champion Guty Espadas! Another sneak peek pilfered from the editor's desk by Chalky the Newsboy ![]() GLASGOW PICAYUNE Sporting Edition | Volume V, Issue V | 01 May, 1904 April Round-Up Farr Takes FarceCardiff, Wales: Welsh Heavyweight champion Tommy Farr failed to impress in his third title defense. His opponent was the apt but eminently beatable Dennis Avoth (9-2-0) who faced literally no one of consequence prior to his bout with Farr. The two men both opted to fight from long range and rarely landed anything that resembled a decent blow. When they did manage to get within shouting distance of one another, they were clunking heads or laying on each other's shoulders. Somehow, Avoth developed a horribly swollen left eye by the eighth round that completely closed by the ninth. The ringside doctor had a quick look and declared Avoth unable to continue. One has to wonder if the doc thought the swelling was really that bad or if he simply seized the opportunity to join the throngs who had already exited for the local pub. The scoring at the time of the stoppage told a tale of a fight so boring that even the judges couldn't bear to pay attention. Two cards were in favor of Farr 80-72 and 80-73 while the third favored Avoth 77-75. None-the-less, Tommy stays undefeated and keeps the Welsh belt. I am in awe of the universe you've created with the Glasgow Picayune, Chris. The scope and depth of it is breathtaking and everything else being done down here is dwarfed by comparison. The articles on the website are top notch and the way the site is set out with all the rankings and title lineage information is easy to navigate.
Great stuff. |

Excellent work once again Chris. The interesting part is seeing that Joe Erskine is the number two rated Welsh HW with only two fights. Looks like (for the time being) he will be getting a minor title shot in the infancy of his career.
