I'm full of it! Thoughts, I mean.

I mentioned before in this thread about Nike's textures and so forth. With their "you will be assimilated" mindset, I wouldn't be surprised if they pushed that into baseball whether baseball likes it or not.

If you're considering a retro revival, I wouldn't be too surprised to see button-up collars come back from the turn of the century -- the turn of the LAST century I guess it is now. I think they also used to have a few unis with ties but I'd be surprised to see that.

I also wouldn't be too surprised to see bold new uniform colors and styles but with retro fonts for the numbers and letters. Sort of a change-up (baseball pun intended) from today's relatively "retro" conservative unis but relatively modern fonts. HDTV allowing a crisper picture might promote more detail to the uniform.

Just some thoughts ...

Bobble,
I'm thinking that some things along the lines you mentioned might be possible...

Lets give some a try and see how they look.

Maybe old-style fonts but with modern treatment - drop shadow or 3D.

Lets keep Carolina fairly conservative, but bring in a little more black and some additional color in an alternate....

For the Cardinals, the birds on the bat aren't going away. Let's try something with a bit of a collar in the conservative fashion typical of St Louis....

Thanks. I like the Carolina one too. A nice lead-in to our "Age of Color"....

Columbus. A little retro-ish...

The textured look is different. I like how it turned out though especially on the San Jose Home jersey. Good job JDEW.

OK, I cobbled together an example one to show some ideas I had as well as see if it looked half decent. I'm thinking bring back the collars from page one of this thread -- buttoned up collars like the youngin's are wearing these days. Then, maybe a subtle introduction of the textures -- leave a standard shoulder panel with textured torso. Lastly, I wanted to see what drop shadow letters would look like.

Anyway, some ideas for ya, jdew.

Bobble, VERY nice.

Feel free to jump in and take a few teams from Joe's list and see what you come up with ....

Let's give him some various ideas to choose from....

Arizona...

I don't think the "A" is going anywhere; its pretty popular.

Lets try a button-up collar look and get the home uniform a kind of "dusty" color instead of pure white...

The Orlando uniforms have a history of conservative simplicity. Lets keep that but introduce some color in the alternate but remove it in the roads for something different....

Cleveland Indians...

There were some folks upset in '86 when the "C" went away, thinking the team surely would be moved. Let's bring the Cleveland "C" back.

Tennessee's history is sort of conservative. Lets make subtle changes but get them into the "age of color"....

There's been talk of bringing back the old MB baseball glove logo, so lets update the Brewer's look....

Something different for the Oakland Athletics. Something from the Philadelphia Athletics and then the Oakland Athletics... sort of new and old at the same time. Then a suitably colorful, yet backward looking, alternate.... All in all an identity change of sorts.

For the Cubs, though they've been innovators, I've can't see them changing from the basic pinstripes and circle "C" logo. But since they introduced the cadet collar (or were at least one of the first to use it) and that's about the last time the team won a World Series......
