I’ve been out of the OOTP game for a few years. Is this considered the best compilation of face gens from start of history to present? Trying to figure all what packs I need to download…

Send me a DM and I can get you my collection of caps, jerseys and logos. My logos are the old Captain Walrus style (if anyone remembers his work) in that they are circles that come from justafan's Pickoff program.
As for facegens, I think the effort to clean them up ebbs and flows but given this is the top sticky on the board and continues work done by others over the years, I'd start with FancySkunk's pack, then scroll the entries made subsequent to that and just download them and add those atop to replace some of the undead ones not yet done in the pack and to add some of the minor leaguers that sometimes break through to the show in-game. It's tough to have one master file all agree on and avoiding dead .fg files (.fg files not tied to a player anymore) is even harder. Just copy Fancy's fg files and paste over what came with the game. Always good to back-up the file you are overwriting just in case, but that goes without saying. The in-game one has a lot of dead files that Fancy removed but so long as they come with the game each year, may be best just to let them be until OOTP ships with them gone because most OOTP players are going to add to, rather than replace, the .fgs that ship. I cleaned up about 3,000 of the best players in the game so I always add my own work atop any facegen pack imported so as to not lose my own hard work. At some point in the next month, I'll get a website for it and the quickstart I'm nearly done with and post it. I'd post here for interested parties when I do. Oh, and welcome back to the game Post any random faces you need replaced once you get back in the game and a'playin'

Frank "Magnum, PI" Scheibeck had quite a solid rookie year in the MLB, hitting 259 with 35 ribbies for his Philadelphia A's.
My apologies re John Butler, the one I'm referring to has BBRef ID butlejo01 and played sporadically throughout the aughts. Sadly in my save he took the concept of "hitless wonder" too far and went 0-for-3 for the Beaneaters in '01. Jiggsy (he insists you call him that, Lord knows why - as if Jiggs isn't bad enough - sounds like an evil genius's cat's name in a Bond ripoff...) was briefly a member of my WORLD CHAMPION Pirates before I traded him to Washington, where he had a solid year. Reports have it that all parties were happy with the trade... Dave Zearfoss barely troubled the scorers, going 0-for-1 in '01 (and briefly thinking of using that as his campaign slogan should he ever run for office) as a "member" (quotes mine) of the Sens. Forget about Jack O'Brien, that must have been my old man eyesight letting me down - apologies. Frank Gatins' sum total for the '01 season was 2 hits in 7 at-bats. He rang me this morning and gave the OK for the mo to be added, so we're good to go in that respect. On the MIA Crew, IRL Bill Hart (hartbi01) started his career in 1885 and is age-35 in '01, so don't sweat him too much he'll be gone back into the ground soon enough. IRL Ed Murphy (murphed01) is a catcher who played for the 1898 Phillies and then for 1901-02-03 with the Cards. IRL Dick Scott (scottdi01) pitched a grand total of 21 innings for the '01 Reds before getting beamed elsewhere. IRL Jack Ryan (ryanja01) was a C/1B who debuted in 1889 and bounced around thru 1903 before vanishing into thin air. Then, in both 1912 and '13, he makes one AB for the Sens. Rumour has it he'd gone away to be a character in some spy novels but it didn't work out... In-game, his historical minors ID is Ryan--04joh, if that helps. Again, don't sweat it. Just about to kick off the '02 campaign, will have some fresh rotten meat for you soon. Thanks again. G

Moving all in to the Class of '02, here is HOF Roger Connor's little brother, Joe Connor. His facegen didn't look enough like his bRef and other pictures to my liking, so I started from scratch on him.

Speaking of Connor's, here's Jack J O'Connor. He was suffering from a clear addiction to the red and purple facegen sliders. The problem was the source picture which I found on the internet and was definitely purple tinged. The trick, be it a tingle that is purple, blue, or sepia, is to convert the image to grayscale before starting to facegen it. Did my best to de-purple him without starting over...

Ernie Ross played two games for the Baltimore Orioles before they relocated to NYC to become the Yankees. Despite limited MLB time and a single bRef picture to go on, I felt we could do better...

The problem with the Frank McManus default file was the source file. It's okay to use a noisy photo like this, just need to clean it up in the facegen program. Here's the same image tidied up...
