The Cardinals have placed right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha on the disabled list with a mild hamstring strain suffered in a 3-1 loss to the Miami Marlins.
Right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks has been called up from AAA Memphis. The talented, but perpetually angry, high-throwing right-hander has been starting for the Redbirds in recent weeks.

This may be his last chance to show he can perform at the major league level or else he may be asked to take his attitude elsewhere.

Cardinals first baseman/outfielder Jose Martinez has been taken off the disabled list after being out since July 6 with a hamstring injury.
Martinez owns one of the best batting averages in the game at .352. He also has hit nine homers and owns 29 RBIs.

Outfielder Tyler O'Neill will return to AAA Memphis to make room for Martinez.
Also, right-handed starting pitcher Luke Weaver has been sent to Memphis.
Last year's National League leader in ERA, Weaver has struggled throug most of 2018 especially in recent weeks. He took the loss in a 9-3 setback against the Marlins on July 17, which dropped his record to 4-11 and raised his ERA to 5.16.
Returning to the majors will be right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty. He has served both as a starter and relievers in the majors this season and owns a record of 0-1 with a 6.87 ERA.

Following a disastrous three-game series in Miami where they were swept by the NL East cellar-dwelling Marlins, the Cardinals remain on the road with a four-game series against Pittsburgh.

It is their final series before the All-Star break. It will take some very positive results to keep the team from being cellars in the final days leading up to the tradiing deadline at the end of July.
