2014 Award Winners and comments...
I got ripped. I was POSITIVE Alexander would win the MVP, but he didn't. I list the top 5 by VORP for hitters, pitchers. I generally tweak these in my other leagues, to make sure the players I THINK should win, win. I'm going to mess very little with this leagues awards. I did change the order for 2-3 in CL Rookie, with Gray's VORP and the nightmare this league is on pitchers, I think he earned it, even though it did push my rookie to 3rd.
The MVP voting, check out the teams? 5 players from 2 teams were the op 5 in VORP! And I have always been impressed that Alexander is a little like Ted Williams, insane offense with very few k's, until I saw Curt Whimsters numbers, check that out...With some health it bodes well for our next season and years to come. Felt like Thomspon got robbed, 281 k's! And no Koufax. Downs did have a great season. Check out Tommy Hobbs season, that had to be frustrating. Think San Antonio missed Thomas' bat during the series? And how about Mehpare Isfahani? Wow, that's a hell of a season for anyone, much less a rookie. My OF took home some gold, very cool to see. In the Frontier League Vargas won his 2nd, Bradshaw won his 2nd and Runas was the only 3 time winner. In the CL Jongmans and Vaughn repeast while Moore takes his 3rd in a row at 1B. For the Rivera award it went like this: Salinas 118 pts Bermudes 115 pts Patterson 105 pts In the Coastal league: Arroyo 138 pts Cruz 116 pts Suhayn 105 pts Last edited by gehrig38; 11-27-2012 at 08:42 PM. |

Off season stuff...
The newly named Arizona Greyhounds have fired GM Atsushi Sugiyama. In this three years as GM Arizona was 225-261, their W total going 83-72-70.
And in a surprising move, to me anyway, Houston was quick to can GM Eugene Eichler! He had steered them to back to back Series Titles and they made a nice comeback at the end of the year, but damn, the ultimate ‘what have you done for me lately’ move by Owner Jim Baird. I am guessing with the leagues largest payroll he was expecting more. Fresno axed GM Chris Davis as well today. With their win total dropping 3 straight (81-74-68) owner Jim Reynolds had had enough I guess. 10/27/15 NEWS and NOTES Holy cow, 22 year old Steve Taylor’s career is over! The Fresno Grizzly’s 7th pick in the Inaugural draft, and 2012 #61 prospect who made a quick rise to the IBL with a callup in ’12 and then made the rotation out of camp in ’13 and went 14-13 5.90 in 178 IP was 7-8 4.42 in 18 starts this year before a labrum injury. Apparently it isn’t something he can, or wants, to recover from and has called it a day. 10/31/15 Managed a steal today. Former Dayton Dragons HC Raul Rivera signed on to be the same guy for our Belleview club at class A. An outsanding communicator and excellent hitting coach, he’ll handle the hitting duties for the next 3 years at a bargain price for a guy of his talent. Steve Lund whom I was trying to overhire for my Omaha job took the Arizona Greyhounds Managing job, good luck with that. And Nolan Carter just took the Pitching coach job in Vegas for the 51’s While Manny Moran took the hitting job there. Both at close to a half million each. Our Hitting Coach has moved on, signing a 5 year deal to be the Hitting Coach at Dayton. And we managed to sign AAA Hitting Coach Ron Glass to a 4 year extension in AAA Tulsa. After a lot of internal discussion the idea might be to promote him to the big league job, there’s nobody better on the market. El Paso Manager Oliver Gidley was named the 2014 Frontier League Manager of the Year. He guided the new look Diablos to a 92-70 record and Jose Solis of the World Champion Philadelphia Freedom (now the Patriots) took home the Coastal League Honors. TRADE NEWS The Michigan Battlecats sent 25 year old MR Ryan Murphy to Columbus today for 18 year old OF prospect Richard McBride. Murphy was the IBL’s #12 prospect in ’12 and #20 in ’13 and has gone 5-2 2 Saves 3.11 ERA in 63 games with 75.1 IP, striking out 58 with a 1.18 WHIP. He’ll move into a setup role. McBride was the 3rd round pick of the Clippers in the 2013 draft out of Herron HS in Indianapolis, IN and family and friends are elated he’s ‘coming home’. A good runner who plays a better LF, his strength appears to be more gap to gap than true HR power, though he’ll hit his share if he stays healthy. Arizona shipped 27 year old SP Tanner Ashley to Fresno today for 18 year old OF prospect Masayuki Hara. Ashley went 12-13 5.43 in 33 starts over 189 IP last year. He spents ’12 in Buffalo (1-4 6.00 in 13 games, 6 starts) and was shipped to Dayton in ’13 and ended a combined 7-9 5.27 in 26 starts. He figures to get a clean start in Fresno. Hara was discovered in Japan last year and signed with Fresno in January. IBL’s #74 prospect projects in RF, with outstanding speed and already an above average defender, he made 3 different stops in ’14, Rookie, Short A and Class A with 4 HR’s and 22 RBI’s, 9-12 SB’s in 181 AB’s over 59 games. In two years he’s hit .242/346/392 in 119 games. |

Expansion Announcement expected soon
Expansion Announcement expected soon
News on the new franchises is expected soon, as well as the new IBL re-alignment plan, which is ranging from minute, to potentally significant as negotiations with one of the leagues new owners, and clear power broker, continues. Mark Cuban’s Green Bay Franchise has been awarded, and we’re awaiting word on the team nickname though there have been rampant rumours. No one has a clue as to the second teams where abouts just yet. With guesses from Seattle to Miami, London has been heard as well… |

Arbitration
11/10/14
Signed former Greyhound pitching coach Aaron James to handle the duties in Denison for the next 2 year. As a former IBL coach I’m hoping he brings something to the table. Pedro Carrilo took the IBL Pitching Coach job with Fresno, for a whole lot more than I thought he was worth. 11/17/14 Arbitration Riley Potts asked 812,500, we offered 600, we won. Spike Davis asked 530,000, we offered 340,000, we won Jose Pacheco asked 530,000, we offered 360,000, we won. Ignacio Ferrer asked 438,840, we offered 360,000, we won. Sib van Bodegraven asked 750,000, we offered 500,000, he won. So we saved a couple bucks, van Bodgraven was higher than I expected, and he won, which I didn’t. No real sweat, got a lot of pen arms waiting, and what’s weird is I am very light on righties, overloaded on lefties, which I think I will work to exploit at the winter meetings. |

Signed former 51’s Hitting Coach Hector Rodriguez to manage at Class A Denison for a great salary, on a two year deal. Handles all types of players good, and has a great reputation. IBL Single Season HR Record Bill Hill (DAY) 60 Cy May (HOU) 56 Carlos Arredondo (PHI) 54 Bill Alexander (CHI) 51 Bill Hill (DAY) 49 Trade News Frontier League Champion San Antonio sent 22 year old Arturo Trujillo and 22 year old SS Simao Meireles to Fresno for 27 year old reliever Dave Stout. Trujillo is a gold glove corner OF that has no peers in the speed department. A potential 40-50 double bat is watered down by what scouts think will be average plat discipline and too many K’s. He was the Silver Stars 3 round pick in the 2013 June Draft out of Luna CC. Meriles is a backup IF that can run extremely well with no bat to speak of. Looks like a throw in. Stout will move into a setup role in the San Antonio pen. 3-11 with 7 Saves and a 3.80 in the past 3 years with 145 appearances covering 189.2 IP he’s punched out 158, walked 81 and yielded a 1.27 WHIP. Is the game bugged or are these international free agents really supposed to suck this bad? FREE AGENTS Even though we aren’t near service time, the money is becoming an issue for some teams it would seem as San Antonio did not offer Arbitation to RF Roberto Villalobos and he’s hit the market. |

Final Expansion team announced
Final Expansion team announced
Along with what was initially to be some small house cleaning, but then turned into a massive re-org, the IBL has announced some major news items. 1) The Alaska Aces are the newest IBL franchise. Owned by Virgin Mogul Peter Branson, the franchise was selected amongst 50 final cities, narrowly edging out Tampa, Miami and Honolulu. With 4, and possibly 6 more teams to come online in the next 10-15 seasons they are likely front runners for the next openings. The team logo and colors are below. 2) The league will undergo major reorg due to the desire to keep travel costs at a minimum. Both Leagues Eastern Divisions will remain untouched, but will have their divions named changed. The Frontier League East will be renamed the “Empire Division” and contain the same 4 clubs: The Staten Island Yankees, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the New York Knights and the Buffalo Bisons. The Frontier Leagues Central division will be renamed the “Midwest Division” and it and the CL’s Central will underog the most significant changes. It did contain West Michigan (staying) Dayton (staying) Tulsa (moving to the CL Central) San Antonio (moving to the CL Central). It now will contain West Michigan, Dayton, the Michigan Battlecats (moving from the CL West), the Columbus Clippers (moving from the CL Central, the Chicago Iron Pigs (I loathe to do this, but for travel reasons (and out of game logic trying to make the in game logic seem real and fun) from the CL Central as well as the expansion Green Bay Blizzard. Yes this will be a 6 team division but that is likely to get re-arranged upon the next expansion, or 2 moves from now as the next round will likely insert two teams into the Coastal League. The FL West will now have Edmonton (staying), Arizona (staying) El Paso (staying, but when the opportunity arises El Paso is likely to move to the CL Central) and the new Alaska franchise. In the Coastal League the CL East remains the same, but is now the Keystone division. In the new central, now renamed the Lone Star division, It will be Houston (staying) Corpus Christi (staying) and San Antonio and Tulsa will move from the Frontier League Central to create a true powerhouse division. (I was going to remain here and it would have been an awesome division but I couldn’t do it with 5, and moving El Paso would have screwed other moves. In the CL West, now the Pacific Division, will be the same three LA, Vegas and Fresno, but Sacramento will move from the FL West into this division. Additionally the rule for the expansion draft have been announced. The new clubs will be allowed to retain the services of three former 40 man roster MLB players, as well as 5 minor league players, before their draft begins. Each IBL team will protect 50 players and players with less than 1 year of IBL pro service are ineligible for the expansion draft. Also, each expansion team will be allowed no more than 3 players from any 1 IBL roster, which means they’ll be able to pick no more than 36 total players. (I am going to attempt to start with the 2000 season from both the players, and rookies) And word is in from the league office on the 6 players signed by the two new expansion clubs. The Blizzard have inked 26 year old Todd Helton, a 1B, 24 year old Scott Rolen a 3B and 22 year old CF Andrew Jones a CF. All three are gold glove caliber defenders as well as offensive forces. The Aces of Alaska signed 21 year old lefty Barry Zito, 24 year old SS Alex Rodriguez and 23 year old power hitting 3B Troy Glaus. Word has it that an agreement was pending with young OF Vladimer Guerrero but something went wrong in the 12th hour. Last edited by gehrig38; 11-28-2012 at 04:11 AM. |

Stuff and the winter meetings
11/24/14
Managed to ink former Brooklyn hitting Coach William Parker to handle that same job in Tulsa. Coaching jobs are filling up with Green Bay and Alaska snatching them up. He’s known as a good teacher but rumor has it he’s a veteran players manager. Winter Meetings 12//9/14 Day 1 A busy Fresno club kicks off the winter meetings with a first morning deal. Sending 21 year old OF prospect Justin Hall, 24 year old minor league OF David Schneider to the Edmonton Trappers for 27 year old AAA reliever Craig Ames and the Trappers 2nd round pick in the 2015 draft. Ames can swing both ways in the pen, or start. He had an outstaind 2013 between AA/AAA but slumped in a dual role in 2014. Scouts love the Hall kid, especially at 21 years old. An outstanding corner defender with some potential for big time pop in his bat. He does punch out a lot and has average speed but is nota good baserunner. Orignally drafted by Buffalo in the 59th round of the 2012 unaugural draft, was dealt to Fresno for SP Clarence Mitchell in 2013, had made the SS and Class A(S) All Star teams the last 2 years. Schneider has been bouncing around A Ball but had what scouts felt was a break out month at the end of 2014, hitting .362 in 20 games to finish the season. Most feel he’s a career minor league kid. A quiet winter meeting, that was the only ‘major’ deal to go down but I expect more this winter with the 2 new clubs looking to get their footing. Last edited by gehrig38; 11-28-2012 at 01:04 PM. |

Trade news
12/26/14
Edmonton has shipped 27 year old MR Jorge Fernandez to San Antonio for 18 year old IF prospect Takeji Miura and 20 year old Infielder Mariano Hernandez. Edmonton also included 750K in cash to cover Fernandez’s contract. This is Fernandez’s 4th club, spening parts of ’12 and ’13 in Dayton and Phoenix and the 2014 season in Edmonton. In 164 IBL appearances he’s 11-4 with 2 Saves and a 3.35 ERA over 209.2 IP. He’s K’d 123, walked 81 to a 1.26 WHIP. Miura was discovered and signed in September of this year out of Japan and has yet to get on the field. He’s lightning fast and has the potential to play 2B, SS and 3B. Hernandez plays the same positions. An unsigned 2012 draftee (19th round by Michigan) he was drafted out of Purdue in 2013 by Sacramento and signed, then released after the 2014 season where he signed a minor league deal with the South Berwick Vipers, hitting .308 in 26 AB’s before the season ended. |

Trade News
1/1/15
Defending World Champion Philadelphia has dealt SP Dan Hill and 19 year old SS prospect Yoritoki Kohara to the Michigan Battlecats for 26 year old 2B Raul Melendez and the 4th round pick in the upcoming 2015 draft. Hill has gon 34-23 5.09 in 83 games (76 starts) over the last 3 seasons. In 449 IP he’s K’s 440, walked 159 to a 1.43 WHIP. Kohara was discovered in Japan in last year hitting 281/369/455 in 57 games in Rookie ball. Melendez is a middle IF with a decent bat. He’s been up and down the past 3 seasons and has a 244/324/328 line in 175 games over 500 AB’s with 21 doubles, 24 HR’s and 68 RBI’s while walking 57 times to 116 K’s with 1 SB. He figures to add some depth to the Patriot IF. |

News from around the IBL
1/26/15
The El Paso Diablos have made a trade. Sending 31 year old 1B Earl Lee to Corpus Christi for 30 year old SP Linday Johnson and 19 year old IF prospect Yoshinori Ohayashi. Lee can play a myriad of positions but he’s a true 1B. Originally drafted by Sacarmento in the 2012 inaugural draft he was deal to El Paso in a deal for SP Dan MIllman. In 209 career games he’s hit 228/296/313 with 25 doubles an 8 HR’s. He’s slotted to be a utility guy and RH bat off the bench for CC. El Paso gets the 30 year old Johnson who’s had some spurts of IBL action, in 14 starts he’s 5-6 5.73 in 70.2 IP with 66 K’s and 45 walks. Plans are to use him as rotation depth and a possible swing guy out of the pen. Ohayashi was discovered and signed by the Wizards organization out of Japan in 2012, and traded to CC for SP Toby Gray (2014 RotY finalist). An average runner who’s bat projects as a good average, XBH guy, he’s got a rifle arm. IBL Single Season Save record Ernesto Cruz (CHI) 48 Greg Patterson (BRO) 47 Bill Barlow (DAY ) 47 Julio Arroyo (PHI) 46 Sherwood Jacobs (MICH) 46 In looking around I see a few potential contract talks, likely the most pressing will be Ernesto Gutierrez, who's contract extension is up and he's looking at 2.3m or more in arbitration this winter. So much interest in him as well, might be the guy to get that top of the rotation guy I desperately need. |

TRADE NEWS
We sent 23 year old utility man Melvin Watson to Green Bay today. They offered up 25 year old SP Elijah Walton, a SP that could be a nice addition to the rotation if he squares away. 10-11 7.54 in 23 starts (spent last year in AA/AAA) but our scouts like his arm and his durability, he’s a horse and an innings eater if he gets his stuff harnessed. STUFF Managed to sign untested and unproven 44 year old Kent Butler to commandeer the Omaha club. A bit steep pricewise but he’s an outstanding communicator and that’s something crucial in the first year or two for young players. And filled the final spot, inking 34 year old Toby Cook to a 5 year deal to Manage AAA Tulsa. Another very good communicator and young up and comer. |

Former MLB minor leaguers signed....
EXPANSION TEAMS ANNOUNCE MINOR LEAGUE SIGNINGS
The Alaska Aces have inked 3 former MLB youngsters to minor league contracts, as have the Green Bay Blizzard. Alaska showed off it’s newest members, 19 year old 1B Albert Pujols, 19 year old OF Carl Crawford and 19 year old SP C.C. Sabathia. Green Bay announced the signings of 19 year old Chase Utley, a 2B, 19 year old CF Josh Hamilton and 19 year old SP Eric Bedard. The youngsters are all ticketed for rookie ball this year. The final conditions to allow these signings to happen ended up with each team being allowed just 3 signings, instead of the original 5. The next entry point for MLB will be the June draft, when a certain number of yet to be determined MLB players (conditions still in talks) will be made eligible for the IBL draft. |

News from the winter, Spring and onto Opening day 2015!
Spring Training news
3/13 Martin has discovered a young Domincan IF named Jesus Mota, a flat out burner. Managed to get him signed and assigned to Omaha. 3/19 Las Vegas Thomas Hood is out for at least a month following a quad injury. Hood figures to be a key driver in the 51’s offense with a career OBP of .407 and 111 SB’s. We lost MR Jose Torres (6-4 1 Save 2.97 in 78.2 IP) for at least the next 3 months with elbow issues. Fortunately we’ve got some other lefties in camp we feel good about. SP Carlos De La Torre will miss the next 2-3 months with shoulder problems. This is going to be an issue. Newly acquired Elijah Walton was moved onto the 40 man roster and brought to camp to get some innings in before the season begins. New Hampshire has lost 2 relievers in 2 days. Youngster Pedro Gonzalez yesterday, but today they lost 22 year old Closer Andrew Tuttle for at least 4 months after rupturing a tendon in his throwing hand. Tuttle came on to same 32 games as a 21 year old last year with a 1.73 ERA. 23 year old Danny Davis is expected to assume the job while Tuttle is out. 3/20/15 Ernesto Cruz, our All Star Closer, is down with an undiagnosed injury, and there’s a collective holding of the breath as we await word. 3/21/15 And the news couldn’t be worse. Cruz has a torn triceps, and will miss the next four months, at least, recovering. There is a scramble now to assemble a new bullpen. It appears Ken Johnson may get the first shot at the job, with left Ryan Pennington also an option. But this is a huge blow to the teams strongest piece. IBL Top Seasons in Batting Average Greg McCain (EDM) .368 Rich Stone (FRE) .356 Curt Whimster (TUL) .343 Vince Soto (LA) .346 Ross Tunstall (PIT) .345 3/23/15 And news from Spring Training continues to be bad. 1B Wes Morgan is down for at least two weeks with a bad back. It’s hoped he’ll be ready in the seasons first or second week. We did win a spring game 23-3 yesterday, so that’s a good thing. 3/27/15 Fresno lost OF Joe Padgett for the 2015 season with a ruptured MCL. Padgett was slated to be the Grizzlies 4th OF. 3/28/15 Corpus Christi lost 35 year old Jose Campos for the 2015 season, before it started. The 35 year old has a torn rotator cuff and will undergo surgery today. Campos has helped anchor the hooks rotation since 2012, going 38-36 3.77 in 102 starts over 678 innings. He k’d 510 to 158 walks and a 1.25 WHIP. And Fresno announced they will play the 2015 season without starting Catcher 26 year old Don Thomas. Thomas has a grade 3 concussion he suffered in an off the field accident. His absence will leave a huge hole in the Grizzly lineup. In 407 games he’s a 308/380/501 hitter with 104 doubles, 52 home runs and 211 RBI’s. He’s scored 232 times, while his 1.063 defensive efficiency and 30.1% caught stealing rate will also be sorely missed. Thomas was a 2014 All Star. 28 year old Jason Lewis and 29 year old Willie McCarthy will split the duties for the start of the season. 3/30/15 Elijah Walton is down with an undiagnosed injury. My rotation can ill afford another lengthy DL stint from a SP. 4/1/15 And the news is far from good. Walton needs exploratory shoulder surgery and is out until at least August…. Damn. Roster moves at the end of camp Sent out: Will Butler MR, Jose Cabral C, OF Steve Howard and Alfredo Lozano, IF Fred Huff, SP Ramiro Morales (Bentley will take the 5th starters spot) and we’re in a pickly with lefty Paul Martin, who’s out of options at 23. I would send Jose Pacheco down as he had a bad spring, has options and his control continues to drop, but tha would leave me with just 2 righties besides Kevin Johnson, my closer…. No one is interested in a trade. |

Season about to start
Final moves, trades and what not to begin the 2015 season.
A surplus of AAA OF’ers and I needed to move some guys to open up playing time for some prospects. I sent 27 year old Hector Zaragoza (282-58-218 in 341 AAA games the past 3 seasons) to Columbus for 27 year old SP Richard Cox. A borderline SP who’s spent the past 3 seasons mainly out of the pen in AA/AAA but has a shot to get some starts. Also just realized I lost Leo Russell to Alaska in the expansion draft and the game never told me? He was my RH OF option….. Signed some minor league free agents to fill some A ball rotation spots and backup OF roles. Former top prospect Bill Sharp was released. Got a week before the season opens so I’ll wait a few more days to see what to do with the pen. I think I am going to move Cabral as well, his power is decent, but it appears other teams are coveting the guy. |

1st week in April news…
1st week in April news…
Sacramento has lost Closer Joey Johnso for 2-3 month with elbow issues. Johnson went 3-6 with 38 Saves and a 2.98 ERA last year. It appears they’ll throw 35 year old former closer Hayden Howell back into the role Johnson took over last year (Howell underwent Tommy John in spring training and missed al of last year, and had 56 saves in ’12 and ’13). Alaska prospect Albert Pujols went down with a broken elbow today, he’ll miss the next 4 months. Denison SP Augusto Rocha (20 year old signed yesterday as a minor league free agent, spun a 1 hitter with 7 punchouts for an 8-0 win in his Class A Debut. |

Now THIS is a trade....
Well I cleared up my OF log jam. And got the Paul Martin situation resolved. In a whopping 7 player deal I sent C Jose Cabral, MR Paul Martin, 30 year old Ramiro Morales, Tulsa OF’ers Flynn Ash (23) and Ken Sanders (27) and our #2 pick in this years draft to the Pittsburgh Bulldogs in exchange for 27 year old SP Dan McFadden and the real prize 23 year old RH hitting OF prospect Ron Miller and their 4th pick in the draft. McFadden will take Morales spot in AAA but is immediate insurance and a potential rotation replacement for anyone. He has the stamina to be an innings eater. A trade the started with Cabral for McFadden quickly grew when I offered the optionless Martin, and Rob Yoder, the Bulldog GM, didn’t blink when I put (according to our guys) 5 star prospect Rob Miller’s name on the table. Everyone here believes his call up last year was too soon, he hit 248/388/413 in 90 games but he’s got 3 options left and we’ll get him into LF in AAA Tulsa now and get him playing. He was the IBL’s #10 prospect in 2013.

Pre season meetings, predictions and news...
Omar has spoken... My owner is of the mind, and I agree, that this team should reach the playoffs this year. I have NO idea what the change in leagues will hold and what the impact of injuries will be, how the staff will react to the absence of the one sure thing, Ernesto Cruz. Does someone step up? If so who?
1st week ORG news Alberto Rivera (whom our scouts are now raving about as our future everyday 3B, took home the Midwest League PotW award in his first week of A ball. He went 11-19 with 7 RBI's. IBL Career Extra Base hit leaders Curt Whimster (TUL) 268 Bill Hill (DAY) 251 Bill Alexander (CHI) 231 Rich Stone (FRE) 227 Cy May (HOU) 226 And the new top prospect list is out....
