1942 - Dalrymple reaches 400
5 Year Recalc:
Met Ott reached 500 career home runs this season. Lou Gehrig also reached the 500 home run milestone for his career this season. 31 year old Hank Greenberg reached 300 career home runs. Greenberg hit 331 home runs in real life. Player Watch Jimmie Foxx (35) - 546 Mel Ott (33) - 529 Lou Gehrig (39) - 508 Chuck Klein (38) - 340 Al Simmons (40) - 318 Hank Greenberg (31) - 306 Hal Trosky (29) - 246 Rudy York (29) - 235 Johnny Mize (29) - 233 Joe DiMaggio (27) - 171 Ted Williams (24) - 148 Stan Musial (21) - 46 Season Leaders 1. Johnny Mize - 34 2. Mel Ott - 34 3. Charlie Keller - 29 4. Ted Williams - 29 5. Dolph Camilli - 28 6. Sid Gordon - 24 7. Hank Greenberg - 24 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Random Debut: Abner Dalrymple reached 400 career home runs to gain entry into the final home run derby. I talked about him last year, and he's definitely one of the big surprises so far. Rafael Palmeiro retired after hitting just 62 career home runs, giving him just one more chance to make the final home run derby. Honestly I wouldn't mind if he failed again, as he's not one of my favorites. Jeromy Burnitz made his debut on the watch list this year after hitting 27 home runs this season, moving up to 65 for his career. Burnitz hit 315 home runs in real life. Player Watch Mike Schmidt (32) - 468 Abner Dalrymple (32) - 404 Ted Kluszewski (41) - 249 Jody Davis (29) - 182 Hanley Ramirez (29) - 181 Jeromy Burnitz (20) - 65 Season Leaders 1. Mike Schmidt - 29 2. Oyster Burns - 28 3. Jeromy Burnitz - 27 4. Jody Davis - 27 5. Buck West - 27 6. Jack Graham - 26 7. Leo Ostenberg - 26 |

1943 - Schmidt reaches 500
5 Year Recalc:
Ted Williams led the league with 39 home runs this season as he approaches the halfway point to 400. Charlie Keller finished second with 33 home runs this year. While Keller hit 189 home runs this year we'll see how he benefits from playing during those missing war years. Al Simmons retired with 318 home runs, passing his real life total of 307 home runs, but falling short of 400. Player Watch Jimmie Foxx (36) - 570 Mel Ott (34) - 556 Lou Gehrig (40) - 508 Chuck Klein (39) - 345 Hank Greenberg (32) - 330 Hal Trosky (30) - 258 Rudy York (30) - 257 Johnny Mize (30) - 257 Joe DiMaggio (28) - 195 Ted Williams (25) - 187 Stan Musial (22) - 68 Season Leaders 1. Johnny Mize - 24 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Random Debut: The big news this season was Mike Schmidt reaching 500 home runs for his career. Schmidt has reached 400 both previous times, but this is the first time he has reached 500 home runs in his career. Schmidt led the league again this season with 32 home runs. Player Watch Mike Schmidt (33) - 500 Abner Dalrymple (33) - 421 Ted Kluszewski (42) - 249 Hanley Ramirez (30) - 206 Jody Davis (30) - 204 Jeromy Burnitz (21) - 93 Season Leaders 1. While Ramirez is still playing today he does have over 150 home runs at the age of 28. Jody Davis hit 127 home runs in real life, but passed 300 career home runs in the random debut replay. At 34 years old it'll be close as to whether he can reach 400. Davis did hit 24 home runs this year, and will need to do that four more times plus hit 3 more home runs. Eddie Mathews made his debut with 32 home runs this year, which was good for fourth place this year. Mickey Mantle also made his debut on the watch list, and his 28 home runs this season have given him 57 for his career. Johnny Mize retired with 546 career home runs. Mize hit 359 in real life and will appear in the final home run derby twice. Player Watch Ted Williams (34) - 490 Charlie Keller (36) - 389 Joe DiMaggio (37) - 367 Stan Musial (31) - 271 Ralph Kiner (30) - 266 Gil Hodges (28) - 211 Yogi Berra (27) - 188 Duke Snider (27) - 185 Willie Mays (21) - 61 Mickey Mantle (21) - 57 Eddie Mathews (21) - 32 Season Leaders 1. I originally wasn't sure Davis would have the longevity necessary to reach 400, and I don't know how much higher he'll go, but regardless, 400 will earn him entry into the final home run derby. Davis hit 127 homers in real life. Hall of Famer Sam Thompson was added to the watch list after finishing third this year with 28 home runs to give him 98 at the age of 21. Thompson had 126 home runs in his career in real life, but did play in the 1800's, and led the league twice, in 1889 and 1895. 1958 - Two additions to 400 club
5 Year Recalc:
Stan Musial saw success for the first time, finishing the season with 419 home runs, the first time I've seen Musial have success. Musial needs 54 more homers to match his real life totals. Duke Snider also joined the 400 club, giving him his second entry into the final home run derby. At 33 years old Snider has already passed his real life total (412 vs 407) and appears to have a decent shot at 500. Ted Williams passed 700 home runs and finished the season with 720 homers. Williams now trails Ruth by just 8 home runs. At 40 years old Williams will be slowing down soon, but did finish the season with 38 homers. Mickey Mantle led the league this year with 47 home runs, and also passed 300 home runs for his career. At just 27 years old Mantle shouldn't have much difficulty passing 400 home runs, or matching his real life total of 536 home runs. Player Watch Ted Williams (40) - 720 Stan Musial (37) - 419 Duke Snider (33) - 412 Gil Hodges (34) - 372 Joe DiMaggio (43) - 367 Ralph Kiner (36) - 343 Yogi Berra (33) - 344 Mickey Mantle (27) - 311 Eddie Robinson (37) - 305 Willie Mays (27) - 241 Eddie Mathews (27) - 239 Ernie Banks (27) - 194 Hank Aaron (24) - 169 Harmon Killebrew (22) - 118 Frank Robinson (24) - 106 Season Leaders 1. Bob Cerv - 34 400 Club Retired Babe Ruth - 728 Jimmie Foxx - 663 Mel Ott - 637 Johnny Mize - 546 Lou Gehrig - 508 Hank Greenberg - 440 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Random Debut: Javy Lopez finished tied for the league lead with 46 home runs, and passed 300 home runs for his career. 30 year old Henry Jones also passed 300 career home runs, as did Jim Breazeale, who is 35 years old. Player Watch Chet Cochrane (36) - 547 Leo Ostenberg (43) - 491 Jeromy Burnitz (36) - 444 Phil Nevin (33) - 376 Dick Buckley (37) - 370 Nick Delvecchio (34) - 367 Fred Mann (34) - 353 David Justice (34) - 350 Will Clark (33) - 342 Henry Larkin (34) - 329 Henry Jones (30) - 316 Jim Breazeale (35) - 311 Barry Bonds (25) - 298 Von Hayes (30) - 269 Sam Thompson (27) - 255 Mark Teixeira (22) - 118 Nick Johnson (19) - 52 Season Leaders 1.
